Jaat (2025) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

How Does Ranatunga Start His Rule?

Ranatunga begins as an ordinary labourer in post-war Sri Lanka. In 2009, after the collapse of the Jaffna Tiger Force (JTF), he discovers a hidden stash of gold left behind by the militant group. This discovery transforms his fate. When the Sri Lankan army tries to reclaim the gold, Ranatunga and his loyal followers eliminate them without hesitation. This ruthless act marks his first step into a life of power and violence. Escaping to Andhra Pradesh, India, Ranatunga uses the stolen gold to bribe local police and gain illegal citizenship. His wealth becomes his shield. With authorities already compromised, he lays the foundation for his criminal empire in the quiet village of Motupalli. He expands his influence through fear, corruption, and violence, ensuring no one dares to challenge his authority.

Ranatunga’s rule is built on bribery and enforced through brutal intimidation. When Sub-Inspector Vijaya Lakshmi attempts to arrest him, his wife Bharathi orchestrates a horrifying response, the molestation and illegal imprisonment of the officers inside their mansion. This bold act sends a clear message: Ranatunga operates above the law, and even the uniform cannot protect you from his wrath. The situation escalates when the President of India receives a box of severed thumbs and a plea for protection. This grotesque warning forces the government to act finally. The President, recognising that local enforcement is paralyzed, sends CBI officer Sathya Moorthy to investigate and bring Ranatunga to justice.

Ranatungaโ€™s rule begins not with a vote or a revolution, but with a treasure, bloodshed, and bribery. He builds his empire by breaking systems and silencing opposition, a dark mirror to lawless power in times of peace.

How Does Brig. Baldev Pratap Singh Learn About Ranatunga?

Brigadier Baldev Pratap Singh is traveling from Chennai to Ayodhya when his train halts unexpectedly near a village in Chirala, Andhra Pradesh due to an accident ahead. What begins as a simple stop for a meal quickly spirals into something deeper. At a roadside eatery, a few ruffians disrespect him, and in response, he physically overpowers them. This small altercation unexpectedly opens a door to a much larger conflict. The ruffians identify themselves as henchmen of Ram Subba Reddy, a local politician. Instead of backing off, Brig. Baldev confronts Ram Subba Reddy directly and demands an apology. When Reddy tries to threaten him, he mentions his close bond with a local man named Somulu, indicating a deeper power hierarchy. Baldevโ€™s sense of justice compels him to find Somulu next.

When Baldev beats Somulu as well, the frightened man tries to intimidate him by invoking the name of his elder brother, Ranatunga. It is at this moment that Baldev first hears of the man who controls the region through fear and brute force. The name is dropped not as a passing threat, but as a final warningโ€”a signal that the real power lies with someone far more dangerous than any local politician. This unintentional chain of confrontations leads Baldev to the truth about Ranatungaโ€™s reign. The Presidentโ€™s earlier decision to send CBI officer Sathya Moorthy is driven by the same terror now faced by Baldev: that the rule of law has collapsed in Motupalli. Ranatunga’s name is enough to silence entire systems. For Baldev, this revelation marks the beginning of a mission fueled not just by duty, but by a personal encounter with unchecked tyranny.

A still from Jaat (2025)

After forcing Ranatunga to issue an apology, Brig. Baldev Pratap Singh prepares to leave, assuming the matter is settled. Ranatunga, viewing the incident as trivial, offers no resistance. But just as Baldev is about to walk away, he notices something odd, a hidden police car and pieces of a torn uniform. His military instinct kicks in. He investigates further and discovers female police officers who have been molested and imprisoned inside Bharathi’s mansion. Shocked and enraged, Baldev frees the women and takes down Ranatungaโ€™s henchmen with sheer force. With the injured officers in tow, he attempts to escort them to safety. But Ranatunga, furious at the interference, sends more men to stop them. A violent chase unfolds. Amid the chaos, one of the officers, Divi, is tragically stabbed and dies, intensifying Baldevโ€™s resolve.

After finding shelter, Baldev speaks to an elderly village woman who unveils the depth of Ranatungaโ€™s reign of terror. She reveals how Ranatunga has committed countless atrocities, murdering innocents with full support from corrupt police officers, including Chief Inspector C.H. Sunil Kumar. The law is no longer a shield for the people; it is Ranatungaโ€™s weapon. Baldev decides to follow the legal route first and goes to the police station to file a complaint. But instead of justice, he finds more degradation. The corrupt officers, led by Sunil, mock and humiliate the rescued women. When Baldev stands up against the insult, Sunil captures him and chains him. Soon, Somulu arrives, ready to execute Ranatungaโ€™s revenge.

Baldevโ€™s attempt to do the right thing exposes the complete collapse of law in Motupalli. The Presidentโ€™s earlier decision to send CBI officer Sathya Moorthy now seems justified, but Baldevโ€™s direct confrontation shows how deep and dangerous Ranatungaโ€™s grip truly is.

Jaat (2025) Movie Ending Explained:

What Does Brig. Baldev Pratap Singh Do to Ranatunga?

Brig. Baldev Pratap Singh, traveling under a false identity, hides his past as the feared โ€˜Bulldozerโ€™, a soldier who once infiltrated Dhaka Central Jail to eliminate hardened criminals. His current task, assigned by the President of India through CBI officer Sathya Moorthy, is to dismantle the reign of Ranatunga. The President’s decision comes after discovering that Ranatunga is actually Muthuvel Karikalan, a wanted international terrorist and former Deputy Commander of the Jaffna Tiger Force. Captured and tortured by corrupt officials, Baldev regains consciousness with the help of SI Vijaya Lakshmi and the surviving female officers. Together, they execute Chief Inspector Sunil and his gang, restoring justice inside a broken police force. Baldev never reveals his military identity during this uprising, maintaining his disguise to work efficiently without external interference.

Meanwhile, Sathya Moorthy confirms Ranatungaโ€™s terrorist past and calls for national-level intervention. Baldev, now officially re-enlisted, accepts the mission. Without wasting time, he arrives at the village, where innocent civilians are held hostage by Ranatungaโ€™s forces. Leading the charge, Baldev eliminates the armed men one by one in brutal close-quarters combat. In a final confrontation, Baldev captures Ranatunga and hangs him, an act of public justice against a man who ruled through terror and corruption. Bharathi, unwilling to face the law, commits suicide in front of Vijaya Lakshmi and her team. The mission concludes with Sathya Moorthy reporting to the President that the terrorist threat has been neutralized.

Baldev, having completed his task without revealing his true identity until the very end, boards an army helicopter and departs. Before leaving, he assures the villagers that he will return if the nation ever needs him again. His silent war, fueled by justice and honor, brings Ranatungaโ€™s dark empire to a definitive end.
