Some characters are so well performed that they often overpower the rest. In essence, every actor performs various characters throughout their acting career; some of them are loved and remembered, while some are just deeply etched in our minds. When we talk about the iconic romantic tragedy drama film “Titanic,” the face of the beautiful damsel who performed the character of Rose engulfs our hearts and minds. Kate Winslet is the actress who brought the character of Rose DeWitt Bukater to life. Kate Winslet is a renowned actress who has been a part of many incredible films but is best known for her appearance in “Titanic.” Well, if you too think so, then let me burst the bubble for you; it isn’t true.
Recently, the Oscar-winning actress on “The Tonight Show” Wednesday revealed James Cameron’s 1997 disaster film isn’t at the top of the list for most of her fans. Surprising, isn’t it? But yeah, Winslet herself didn’t expect that. She shared that her fans purportedly prefer a 2006 romantic comedy and a Ricky Gervais series to her breakout role.
She told Jimmy Fallon, “People come up to me in the street more about “The Holiday” and the episode of “Extras” that I did than “Titanic.” I promise you. Especially at Christmas.”
The actress shared that the fraction of the audience that generally admires her “The Holiday” belongs to the mothers and daughters group. She said, “And actually what’s so lovely is that mothers and daughters come up to me in the grocery store and they say, ‘Oh Kate, we just love “The Holiday,” it’s our little ritual at Christmas.’ They have things that they eat every year, they sit down, it’s a tradition, and I just love that. That’s something I never would have expected actually, the sort of mother-daughter connection around a film like that. It’s so nice. It’s lovely.”
The 2006 romantic-comedy film, “The Holiday,” stars Winslet as Iris, a journalist who ends up on vacation in Los Angeles and develops an unexpected romance after swapping homes with Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz. Kate Winslet’s role in “Titanic” alongside Leonardo Di Caprio earned her the second of seven Oscar nominations. Later she went on to star in some acclaimed films including “The Reader” and “Steve Jobs,” and was most recently seen in Cameron’s “Avatar” sequel.
Winslet indeed has an iconic journey throughout her acting career and she is thrilled and grateful for all the praises and love she has garnered as an actress. She told Fallon, “I have to say I’ve just felt so blessed to have had this amazing career but also just to meet these phenomenal people. That’s one of the loveliest things.”
