Even before viewers get their first glimpse into the dramatic world of oil fortune hunters, Paramount+ has secured a second season for its upcoming series, Landman. Season 2 of Landman is scheduled to begin filming in early 2025 and promises a captivating exploration of the modern-day oil rush in West Texas.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone and its prequels, Landman takes viewers on a thrilling journey through the “boomtowns” of West Texas. This modern-day saga dives into the ruthless pursuit of wealth amidst the sprawling oil rigs. The narrative unfolds as a captivating “upstairs-downstairs” tale, weaving together the contrasting lives of roughnecks toiling in the fields and the billionaire wildcatters who bankroll the industry’s explosive growth.

Landman Cast:

Billy Bob Thornton takes the lead as Tommy Norris, a man entrenched in the heart of the Texas oil industry. Tommy’s days are filled with navigating the treacherous waters of negotiation and dealing with a cast of characters fueled by immense greed. As the money flows like a relentless river, Tommy acts as the controller, strategically directing the cash flow to keep the oil production machine running at full tilt.

Landman boasts a star-studded cast alongside Thornton. Ali Larter portrays Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela Norris, while Michelle Randolph and Jacob Lofland step into the roles of their children, the headstrong Ainsley and troubled Copper. The ensemble cast also features Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, Paulina Chavez, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Mustafa Speaks, Andy Garcia, Michael Peña, Octavio Rodriguez, and J.R. Villarreal.

Demi Moore, who portrays the glamorous wife of a powerful oil tycoon, offered a glimpse into the series’ themes at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. She highlighted the show’s unique exploration of the complex world surrounding oil and the human drama that unfolds within families grappling with the industry’s impact.

Jon Hamm, another cast member, sheds light on how Landman deviates from Sheridan’s usual foray into the world of cowboys. The series dives deep into the world of oil speculators and landmen, those tasked with securing the valuable land and mineral rights that fuel the industry’s engine. Hamm emphasizes the show’s meticulous research and storytelling, praising Sheridan’s ability to craft compelling narratives. He hints at the series’ intriguing exploration of the hidden processes that keep the modern world running.

Landman Season 2 Filming Locations:

Landman capitalizes on the recent surge in popularity of Texas as a backdrop for captivating Western narratives. The series will be filmed in Midland and Fort Worth, locations that previously served as filming sites for Sheridan’s 1883 and The Iron Orchard, respectively.
