Lily Gladstone got Upset when Cate Blanchett didn’t win: Lily Gladstone is an American actress popularly known for her appearance in films like First Cow, The Unknown Country, Certain Women, and the recently released Oscar-nominated film Killers of the Flower Moon. The actress has always been vocal about being a fangirl of Cate Blanchett. Recently, She told  People magazine that she was disheartened when Blanchett didn’t win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Elizabeth I in the 1998 biographical period drama. 

Gladstone said, “I’ve idolized Cate Blanchett since I was a teenager. When … she was up for Elizabeth at the Oscars and didn’t win, I remember just being really, really upset about that. She’s my ultimate actress. I think she’s the great talent of this generation.”

That year, at the 71st Academy Awards, Blanchett was nominated alongside Fernanda Montenegro, Meryl Streep, Emily Watson, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Among all the nominees, Paltrow took home the Oscar trophy. This isn’t the first time Gladstone opened up about her admiration for Blanchett. Previously, during The Hollywood Reporter‘s actress roundtable, Gladstone shared how much she looked up to Blanchett. She said, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Cate Blanchett. If I can diffuse the two of them into one, those are my two perfect actors. Childhood inspirations: I wanted to be an Ewok, and that’s what started all this madness.”

Recounting her in-person interaction with Blanchett, Gladstone told People that Blanchett has been “so kind” whenever they’ve run into each other during the busy award season. She even shared that she got lucky enough to get a piece of advice from her ladylove in the industry. Gladstone said, “Her big tip was to keep up on your adaptogenic mushrooms through this whole period, which is great advice. That is a very quick, easy, self-care ritual that I can adapt, coming from one of the most brilliant actors alive.”

Although Gladstone’s inspiration, Blanchett, missed out on an Oscar, Gladstone still has a chance to win the Academy trophy. She is nominated for her first Oscar this year for her performance as Mollie Burkhart in the Martin Scorsese-directed film Killers of the Flower Moon alongside Annette Bening, Sandra Hüller, Carey Mulligan, and Emma Stone

The film was also nominated for ten Academy Awards (including Best Picture), seven Golden Globe Awards (including Best Motion Picture – Drama, and with Gladstone winning Best Actress Motion Picture – Drama), nine British Academy Film Awards, three SAG Awards, with Gladstone winning Best Actress.
