Director Doug Campbell’s ‘Look Who’s Stalking’ (or ‘Hunted by My Stalker’) is a Lifetime thriller. It stars Alissa Filoramo, Juliana Destefano, Harley Jay, Howard M. Lockie, Kiana Nicole Washington, and Isaac Stackonis. It looks into the impact of a stalker on the life of an individual and the consequences it has on their relationships. It is nothing groundbreaking but provides an insightful look into how trauma cannot be easily forgotten or avoided in the course of our normal lives.
Look Who’s Stalking (2023) Movie Synopsis & Plot Summary:
Hope Connors is a successful surgeon working at one of the most reputed hospitals in the country. Her husband passed away a few years ago, following which she married Evan. He is a musician who has not made it big just yet and is, therefore, financially dependent on her. She also has a daughter from her first marriage, Danielle, who gets along quite well with her stepfather. They are a happy family until a stalker enters Hope’s life.
The movie opens on a night when she’s just returned from work to an empty house. Hope senses something is amiss and soon finds out that her stalker, Toby Miller, has entered the house. Toby knows that her family will not be back anytime soon, so he has the whole night to himself with her. He ties her up and tries to force himself on her, but she escapes. Subsequently, he chases her down the street till she decides to run up some stairs.
Toby follows her but suddenly is struck with severe pain in his chest. It is clearly a heart attack that Toby is having, but Hope chooses not to help him. Instead, she just watches as he begs for her help.
Two months later, Toby is now dead and buried. It is a major relief for Hope and her family. She has just left her job at the hospital and is about to join a much smaller operation. In fact, Hope had always dreamed about having her own practice, and this was her opportunity to do that. She is to take over the reins of a senior surgeon, Dr. Fitzgerald, who is about to retire.
Hope has also hired a personal assistant, Mary, who is extremely dedicated and looks after her professional and personal life. Mary is an orphan whose parents died during COVID. Within a short span of time, Hope has become entirely dependent on her. Her husband, Evan, is leaving for a tour which he believes will give him his much-awaited break. On his first day on the new job, Hope realizes how stressful this dream of hers is. Suddenly, she notices a figure who dresses up exactly like Toby across the street but then disappears. The sighting shakes her up a little. That is only the beginning.
Soon, she starts receiving letters in red envelopes with threatening messages. Calls from an unknown number become frequent. Before long, her privacy is entirely shattered as this new stalker starts breaking into her house from time to time. This person’s moves are an exact replica of Toby’s, and that is the most unsettling part of the entire fiasco for Hope. Toby certainly died from a heart attack. So she starts to suspect that either he actually did not or that it is a copycat. Danielle suggests that it might be Toby’s ghost. The intensity of the stalking soon makes the surgeon not dismiss that possibility either. Toby’s grave is soon exhumed. The coffin is empty.
Why does Hope suspect Mary and Nadine?
Toby’s death finally restored peace in Hope’s life. So when this new stalker enters her life, the first consequence of it is that Hope becomes suspicious of everyone around her. Given how aware this new person is of Hope’s life, it is not unnatural that she starts to believe it might be someone close to her. Nadine plants a thought in Hope’s mind that Mary might be a possible suspect. Mary appeared in Hope’s life following Toby’s death. She is close to her all the time. Mary tabs on everything Hope does and has access to her house and her office. There is not much that Hope knows about Mary’s past. She is also uncannily nice. Hence, she becomes a suspect for these reasons, till one night, the Toby copycat attacks her outside Hope’s house.
When Nadine comes to visit Hope, her handbag has a red envelope sticking out from it that looks exactly like the letters the latter has been receiving from the stalker. Now it is quite clear from how the letter is placed that she is being framed. But Hope is on the edge and takes the opportunity to build up Nadine as the stalker in her imagination. And there are reasons for it too.
Nadine is Hope’s closest friend and has a lot of information on her life. She has always badmouthed Evan as she finds him to be parasitic. According to Hope, she is jealous of Hope’s career and probably even wishes to take over her role at Dr. Fitzgerald’s since she had asked whether there is another opening. All these things and the paranoia add up to reveal just how deeply disturbed Hope is by the stalker, making her incapable of trusting anyone in her life.
How does Hope find out that Mary is behind it all?
The DNA testing of Toby’s coffin reveals that his corpse was indeed in there. This report, along with his death certificate, proves that Toby is indeed dead and not the one presently stalking Hope. After she returns home one day, she finds a benzodiazepine tablet on the floor, mistakenly dropped during Mary’s attempt to poison her the previous night. She confirms with a pharmacist that it is indeed benzodiazepine. No one in the house takes it, and there is not one prescription bottle in which it would fit. Nadine, despite her dislike towards Evan, believes that he is not the one taking it.
Outside, on the patio, a crow lies dead on the table. It evidently ate from the plate that Mary had served her dinner on and which she had not touched because of her anxiety. The crow then died from eating the food meant for her. Since Mary served it to her while also insisting that she eat it, it becomes quite clear to Hope why she found the benzodiazepine in her house. After she breaks into Mary’s house, owing to her suspicion, she discovers a bunch of red envelopes with her name and a recording of Toby’s voice, which is what she hears every time she gets a phone call from an unknown number. This entire ordeal reveals to Hope who the real culprit is, which is Mary.

Why was Mary terrorizing Hope’s life?
Mary’s full name is Mary Miller. She is Toby’s sister and hence, seeking vengeance for his death. Mary always knew that Toby was not mentally in the right place but found it further unacceptable that Hope, with all her connections in the medical industry, did not try to help him. For Mary, Toby was sick but still just a man in love with a woman. He did not deserve to die for his pursuits.
As a doctor, it was imperative for Hope to save Toby when he had his heart attack, but she chose to stand back and watch him die. Therefore, she decides to terrorize Hope’s life because she believes Hope murdered Toby by quietly watching him die. She hired a person with felony convictions to do all the dirty business and then murdered him because of his greed. She is the one who removed Toby’s body because she probably assumed that should Hope manage to get it exhumed, the empty coffin would further push her into an uncanny valley.
Now she plans to inject a lethal solution of benzodiazepine into Hope’s body to induce a heart attack and make her experience what Toby did. Hope had been gnawing away at the rope with a scalpel for a while and managed to tear it apart just in time. She then turns both the scalpel and the injection on Mary and stabs her with them, who starts having a heart attack. This time, Hope does not abandon her duties and gives her CPR just in time to save her. In the aftermath of the attack, Mary is still alive and has been taken into police custody. Hope tells Danielle that she saved Mary because, as a doctor, that was her duty.
Some time passes, and Hope returns home to a red package that looks disturbingly similar to those Toby and then Mary used to leave for her. When she opens it up, though, there’s a CD of the album that Danielle recorded as a gift for Hope with Danielle’s help.
