Manifest (Season 4), Part 1 kicks off two years after the last episode aired in 2021. A new tale is being told with more plot complications. In the concluding episode of Season 3, we witnessed a much younger Cal vanish after touching the ominous Montego Airline Flight 828’s tailfin. Michaela Stone, an NYPD Detective saves Angelina who is a lost fellow passenger on Flight 828. In order to assist her in adjusting after the Callings forced a tragic escape and kidnapping toward the end, Michaela brings her to the Stone family’s house.
Only 10 of the promised 20 episodes of Season 4’s released on Netflix this week. With 10 more episodes to go, the supernatural element of the series will have reached its zenith, with Cal acting as the series’ lone hero fighting a dreadful illness. Ben Stone stays determined to find his daughter, Eden, while Michaela and Zeke struggle with a love triangle, and Zeke’s hidden drinking problems come to the surface.
After locating his daughter, Ben learns that Cal might be seriously ill, thus Cal is left to serve as the Stone Family’s messiah and decide the future of the clan. Michaela is forced to choose between protecting the Stone Family from their impending demise and saying her final goodbyes to Zeke as the story draws to a close. Let’s get started by comprehending the challenging path the Stone family must take in order to avoid the impending Death date.
Manifest (Season 4), Part 1 Recap:
A Grief-Stricken Father Hunting For His Missing Daughter With A Terminally Sick Son And An Unrealised Angel of Death:
Previously on Manifest Season 3, Angelina abducts Eden Stone – the daughter of Ben Stone after she stabs Grace, who is Ben’s wife. Ben, who is a professor of mathematics at a university has been residing in his car for the past two years post his wife’s death. The Stone family is left to pick up the pieces as tragedy strikes twice when Ben’s son Cal vanishes just before Eden is abducted. The new season starts two years after that incident took place.
Ben, who is distraught, is seen posting posters of Eden as a “lost child” everywhere in the hopes that someone will call the number provided and clue him with new information that may help find Eden. Officer Vasquez – his sister Michaela’s boyfriend, is his only chance as he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Cal’s sister Olive believes that when an older Cal visits the Stone family home, it was only he who could have allowed Angelina entry, leading to their mother’s demise. Ben is even more heartbroken and untrusting of Cal’s return because it begins to cause tension between him and the family. Michaela and her husband Zeke try to deal with Ben, who is vehemently hunting for his missing daughter Eden and still sees himself as a loner.
Michaela is married to Zeke, but Officer Vasquez still harbors unresolved feelings for her. Michaela also shares the same feelings. Numerous things happen while Cal reintroduces himself to the family. Everyone keeps returning to the same vision, whether it was on the plane, or the Lifeboat they used to save themselves after the plane went down, the Callings grow stronger and gradually unite everyone.
As the callings intensify, Ben gradually learns where his daughter is and finds her, eventually finding a lonely cottage (which is a shelter for 828 passengers in hiding) off the beaten path. He catches a glimpse of Eden after being confined inside. Adrian, who assists stray 828ers seeking refuge from the government’s pursuit of them, simply intended to assist Angelina to establish some shelter for her and the child. He had no idea, however, that she would abduct a child.
When Eden discovers her father chained up in the basement, she does not recognize him. Angelina panics but manages to keep Eden safe. Then, when Michaela, Officer Vasquez, Zeke, and Cal arrive to release Ben and Eden from captivity, chaos ensues. Ben takes Eden and Cal pushes Angelina against the wall so they may escape the burning house before it explodes. Cal survives the explosion after the shelter blows up. Angelina, however, escapes and makes her way to her mother’s house.
Robert Vance, NSA Deputy Director tracks Henry Kim, a wanted Chinese man who eludes death. Kim is assigned with delivering the Blackbox from Montego Airline Flight 828 to Cal. Each Calling from the future has been recorded.ย Henry Kim and Cal have the same Dragon-shaped scars. Cal notices Kimโs scar and shows him his own scar. According to Kim’s father, the scar provides them both with tremendous inner strength.
Cal’s scar periodically glows when he is in a calling, which suggests that there may be more to the scar when Saanvi takes a skin sample. Saanvi examines the brain scans of the 828ers as Ben and Saanvi find a room in a hospital where several of them remain seated in wheelchairs in a state akin to cryostasis. They have ongoing Callings. One of them is Marko, who underwent rigorous physical testing and is currently lying in a wheelchair, almost brain-dead. To add to that, Ben must face anotherโ nightmare once Cal’s cancer returns.
Manifest (Season 4), Part 1 Ending, Explained:
Will the Omega Blue Sapphire rescue the 828ers?
Olive, Cal’s sister, gradually delves into Egyptian mythology to understand why Cal saw a peacock during one of his callings. Olive eventually uncovers what and who is responsible for each individual’s Calling. A severe thunderstorm threatened to ground Montego Airline Journey 828, putting the entire flight in jeopardy.
Captain Amuta and Bill Daly, the two pilots, struggle to maintain control of the aircraft. Certain high-frequency sounds are captured during those 6.2 seconds of the storm on the flight’s BlackBox as all systems start malfunctioning. All of the Callings that everyone had is individually trapped in this Blackbox.
When Henry Kim practices an intermediate form of meditation, he is able to access these noises like a Calling through his consciousness. Michaela, Cal, and the others start to feel and hear these Callings after his tragic death. In the meantime, Saanvi also finds them. From these records, Saanvi learns that while a human’s brain is experiencing a Calling, a bright white light illuminates the fMRI scanner. Ben and Saanvi find a room with 828ers slumped on a chair, nearly brain-dead, and Saanvi notices that all their scans show the same white light. When Cal comes back as an older adolescent, he sees this white light too.
Olive learns over time that the Omega Blue Sapphire is known to be closely linked to the Delphic Oracle. She tells Michaela what she discovers as she assembles the facts. Although Angelina is still on the run, the Stone Family is in danger because a serial killer, who has killed 828 passengers, is still at large. Officer Vasquez and Michaela decide to visit Angelinaโs house to interrogate her parents after learning that it might be Angelina on a killing spree. When Angelina is not present or cannot be found, they interrogate Angelina’s mother, Noelle. Angelinaโs father, Kenneth, was not present. This was their first clue to the serial killings of 828ers.
On the same day as Micheala and Zekeโs 3rd anniversary, Calโs cancer returns and Ben has a new problem. Nevertheless, they focus on the couple, but during dinner, everyone has an ominous Calling. In the Calling, there is one more passenger in danger and they see Thomas pulling on the Hatch of the door and the airplaneโs call light above the seat switching on. There is someone that they have not thought about. As the three of them – Olive, Saanvi, and Michaela make sense of who needs their attention the most, Cal starts getting weaker due to cancer’s progression. With someone having to stay back and look after him, everyoneโs movements are restricted temporarily.
Saanvi and Michaela leave to look for Thomas, but Ben opts to remain at home. Eagan Tehrani, a chess prodigy who has already met Ben Stone, has a troubled relationship with Vance because the latter destroyed his family by kidnapping his son. Once he divulges the area where Eden, Ben’s daughter was hiding, Eagan is set free. On his quest to locate the Omega Blue Sapphire, Eagan departs with the stone, leaving the others trapped.
After overhearing the discussion on Cal’s phone (which was left on after Eden playfully accepted the call), Angelina is also attempting to locate the stone because she believes that she is a vessel of an Archangel and every action she enacts is that of an angel. The killings stop after Olive kills Kenneth, who had attacked Zeke and Olive in the Stone House.
Angelinaโs mother Noelle traps Angelina and Adrian, who helped Angelina find shelter with Eden in the shelter house that blew up. Noelle is primarily a fundamentalist by belief, and her daughter continues the trend. Michaela and Vasquez eventually find Adrian just in time, while Angelina escapes and leaves Adrian to his fate. Vasquez and Zeke manage to get Marko out of the Registry and get him home to Cal after they all have a Calling in common.
When Marko comes home, he indicates with his fingers that he wishes to draw something. Cal is familiar with the notion and explains that Marko is drawing his vision of a volcano erupting. Olive informs Michaela and Saanvi, who are tracking Thomas using a compass that is drawn by his energy.ย Events quickly move to help the girls find Thomas when they enter an underground space where they have been before. They see Eagan and Thomas and discover that the space is part of the Masonic Temple of the Omega Order, an ancient building.
Michaela, Saanvi, Eagan, and Leo find a wall with the Goddess Maโat, inscribed behind a false wall. It collapses after they find a World Card from a classical Tarot deck. It is the last piece of the puzzle to unlock their way to the Omega Blue Sapphire that holds the divine consciousness and untold powers. This is the biggest breakthrough for any 828 passengers on their journey to escape the Death date. Eagan grabs the stone and leaves everyone else trapped as the place is coming apart. A stone falls on Leo’s leg. Saanvi tries to save Leo, as Michaela struggles to open the door. This is where Thomas finds them and releases them.
Zeke has been experiencing life differently since he came back. He embraces life as an empath and soaks in other peopleโs suffering and trauma. Flight 828 always has a surprise around the corner for any passenger when they come back to life. With everyone sharing a common Calling, the Death date is drawing closer, marking down the number of days that allow them to live complete lives. The Blue Sapphire is the lone ranger in their path, offering hope to live more with its untold superpowers. With Angelina on the run, she finds Eagan in his hotel room and steals the stone from him. However, her mission is not over until she saves Eden. When Eden chooses her father Ben, Angelina feels angry and screams; sending a ripple effect to all the passengers of 828 all over the world who feel an intense high frequency piercing their brains.
As events turn for the worse, Michaela and Ben go straight to where Angelina had her first Calling regarding her Archangel of Death. As she tries to channel her inner Angel, lava sprouts around the floor, carving the church in half, eventually trapping some of them on one side of the church. Michaela tries to distract Angelina. Zeke has understood that Cal is the only one who can save them all and decides to absorb Calโs sickness; allowing him to live longer and save the others. Meanwhile, Zeke decides to call Michaela and speak his truth.
When he confesses his feelings and thoughts about why he chose to live again, Michaela senses something wrong. Zeke has absorbed Calโs cancer and while Angelina is channeling Sapphireโs power, she and Cal engage in the same Calling. Cal tries to battle Angelina and wins. He completely heals as Zeke takes in all his sickness and is about to breathe his last. Michaela and Ben rush back home to be there when Zeke is about to breathe his last and Cal wakes up feeling like he can live again. Angelina finds the last shard of the stone and touches it to absorb it and it becomes part of her hand. This changes everything.
Final Thoughts:
The series is a prism of plot twists and a must-see for a thrill seeker. The narrative has a dangerous beat that can completely engulf an adventure addict. It is hard to follow the series and the struggle to renew for a new season is understandable, nevertheless, the effort to bring about a new season is commendable. However, at this point, it feels like the series is running on fumes and the unnecessary length of progression starts getting on your nerves.
With a poignant ending to part 1, we know we will see more of Angelina. It is not over for the Stone family and the 828 passengers until we are certain how they can counter the Death Date – their inevitable fate.
