Mura (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
Who are Anandhu, Saji, Maji, and Manaf?
“Mura” opens with a woman named Rama being stabbed by a couple of goons disguised as a beggar. They had been waiting for her outside a building. Her son and his friends arrive at the scene and desperately try to get help. Unfortunately, Rama doesn’t survive. The story then shifts to a group of gang members vandalizing the office of a finance company. The police chase the boys for miles but fail to catch any of them. Among the group are Anandhu, Saji, Manu, and Manaf—lifelong friends from humble backgrounds. While they aren’t wealthy, they’ve always found happiness and peace in each other. They’re the kind of friends who would do anything, even risk their lives, for one another.
The four boys are part of Ani Anna’s gang. Despite being a hardened criminal, Ani Anna looks out for his gang members. This is probably why he commands both respect and fear. Some even compare him to Dawood Ibrahim. Ani Anna is involved in all sorts of crimes, including money laundering, loan sharking, directing political riots, and suppressing protests. When Ani Anna notices the boys’ talent for breaking things, he decides to use them regularly—either as errand boys or as muscle for the gang.
The boys are deeply drawn to Ani Anna’s charisma and power. The way he gets things done with just a word is something they wish to have. Because of this, they never refuse anything Ani asks of them. During an incident where they are sent to disperse protestors outside a mine, the four end up injuring some locals. This leads to a complaint being filed against them. Even after they are arrested, they refuse to reveal Ani Anna’s whereabouts or say anything against him.
What Ani Anna Wants Anandhu, and his Gang to Steal?
Ani Anna has been working for Rama for a long time, helping her launder money and suppress protests. However, he’s always dreamed of building something of his own. When he learns about a stash of black money worth millions hidden in a steel factory in Madurai, he sees it as an opportunity too good to pass up. To pull it off, he needs a team with both brains and brawn. Therefore, he decides to take a gamble on Anandhu and his friends. He summons them and lays out his plan, assuring them that since it’s black money, no official complaint will be filed. “It’s like stealing something that doesn’t even exist,” Ani Anna tells them.
The job is risky, but Anandhu and his group agree to do it, thinking that if they pull it off, they’ll finally earn Ani Anna’s trust and favor. To boost their chances, the boys team up with two other thieves, Sitararasu and Malarvendham who previously attempted the same heist but failed. On the night of the job, they break into the steel factory and discover dozens of trunks filled with cash. However, things take a turn when they realize someone has tipped off another gang, which shows up to snatch the money. By morning, the owners of the stolen money, desperate to recover their stash, call in police officers on their payroll and demand an off-the-books investigation.
What Happens to Saji, Manaf, and Maji?
They say a criminal’s true colors will always show eventually, and this proves true for Ani Anna and Rama Chechi. Anandhu and his gang risked their lives to steal ₹30 crores, but when it’s time to divide the loot, Ani and Rama offer them only ₹10 lakhs in total. Anandhu refuses to settle for anything less than ₹50 lakhs, making it clear that this is their ticket to leave this dangerous life behind for good. The gang sees the money as their chance to start fresh and move on from beating people and breaking things for a living. If you missed it, Rama is the woman who was stabbed at the start of the film, and the rest of the story unfolds as the events leading up to that moment.
When Anandhu and his friends refuse to accept the meager amount offered to them, they are beaten by Rama’s son, a spoiled and entitled troublemaker. Later that day, Anandhu and his friends retaliate by breaking the son’s hand, resulting in an amputation. When Rama learns what happened, she figures that it is in her best interest to give the boys their fair share. However, before this can be resolved, Maji and Manaf die in a road accident, and shortly after, Saji is brutally killed by goons while traveling to Madurai with Anandhu.
Mura (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
Did Anandhu Get His Revenge?
After losing all his friends, Anandhu realizes that Rama and Ani are the root of all his misfortunes. They are the ones who planned Saji’s murder and even disguised Maji and Manaf’s deaths as a road accident. With Anandhu being the only one left, he knows it’s only a matter of time before Ani and Rama come for him too. Chokli advises Anandhu to run away and save himself, but Anandhu decides to stay and seek revenge.
Anandhu’s first targets are Ani Anna and Suni Anna. Once he deals with them, he heads to Bangalore to track down Rama. However, Rama has more pressing problems. Ratnam, the man from whom Anandhu and his friends stole the money, has found her. Ratnam also has his men kill Murli, the manager who tipped Rama off about the stash at the steel factory. To save herself, Rama is forced to return every penny she took from Ratnam to avoid Murli’s fate. Meanwhile, when Anandhu finally confronts Rama to exact his revenge, he is unexpectedly killed by Chokli. However, Rama doesn’t escape unscathed. As seen in the opening scene of the film, she is stabbed by Malarvendham and Sitrarasu.
