My Happy Marriage (Season 1), Episode 10 “Summer Cherry Blossoms, and the Mistake” Recap:

The episode begins with Kiyoko carrying Miyo in his arms and walking towards Arata’s house. Miyo is conscious again and requests Kiyoko to put her down as she feels alright. They reach the entrance of the house to find a full-bloomed cherry blossom tree. Kiyoko is surprised to see the tree as it is mid-summer. Miyo finds the place to be like a faded memory. Arata walks out of the house and wonders when they will show up. They both gasped in surprise.

Arata welcomes them to the house of Usuba. Miyo is confused, and Arata tells them that he knows they have traveled a long distance and introduces himself by his real name. He tells them that his name is Arata Usuba. He tells Miyo that they both come from the same bloodline and that they are cousins. Miyo is shocked. Kiyoko interrupts and asks Arata why they have come to his house. Arata tells him he is looking for a way to stop Miyo’s nightmares. Kiyoko does not like this, and he worryingly sighs.

Kiyoko tells him that the nightmares torment Miyo, and he suspects it has something to do with the Usuba line. Arata tells him that he isn’t entirely wrong, but the real cause of her nightmare is her supernatural abilities. Miyo is shocked to hear this once again. Kiyoko confirms if he believed Miyo had supernatural gifts, and Arata assures him she did, and her gifts were troublesome yet extremely powerful. Miyo cannot believe this and corrects Arata by saying she has no gifts or spirit-sight.

Arata tells her it is true she didn’t have spirit sight, and she didn’t need it. Usuba clan’s abilities are unique, and it isn’t necessary to compulsorily have a spirit-sight. He tells her he is confident she has a gift and reconfirms with his grandfather, who is watching this from the sidelines. He tells Miyo that she resembles her mother and tells her that he is the head of the Usuba household. His name is Yoshiro Usuba, and his daughter is Sumi Usuba, so that he would be Miyo’s grandfather.

They enter the mansion, and Yoshiro asks Miyo if her body has felt light since she was there. Miyo confirms that, and Arata explains that she had to thank the Usuba barrier; the longer she stayed in the mansion, the faster she would recover. Kiyoko is a little annoyed listening to this and asks them what would happen if she crossed the barrier and if she would have nightmares again. Yoshiro tells him that was the likely situation, and Kiyoko wants to know if they could get rid of the nightmare once and for all. Yoshiro tells him there was, but taking help from them came with a condition.

Yoshiro asks Kiyoko to let him take care of Miyo and leave the responsibilities to him. Kiyoko asks what the intention is and Yoshiro tells him that Miyo’s existence is unique and she is a rare gem to the clan. Kiyoko is skeptical and asks why they had waited so long to intervene. Yoshiro explains that they were clueless and believed she wasn’t gifted, but the signs started showing, and they could feel it until the mansion. And for Miyo, it is not just that she is gifted; someone like her is rare.

Yoshiro explains that the gift Miyo possesses is that of a dream sight where she can get into anyone’s dreams, and they are the cause of her nightmares. It will be disastrous if they are not taken care of properly and under proper guidance, but Kiyoko still wants to know what they intended to do with her. Yoshiro tells him there are no shortcuts, and Miyo has to be in the Usuba mansion, but Kiyoko tells them that separating them would be a huge mistake. Arata intervenes and asks Kiyoko to think about the delicate matter, and they approach him after much deliberation. Kiyoko is furious and asks them what made them think he would be up for this.

Kiyoko is mad and declares that he would not hand over Miyo to the Usuba clan as she is his fiancée now and would protect her. Miyo is trying to say something, but the argument between Arata and Kiyoko does not stop. Arata asks Kiyoko if he thinks he can protect Miyo alone. He asks him why he could not protect her during the Saimori house situation and couldn’t help her with her nightmares. Kiyoko is stuck as what Arata is saying is true. Miyo is silent as she believes all this is happening because of her.

Arata asks Miyo what she wants to do, and she says she doesn’t care even though she wants to be by Kiyoko’s side. Arata suggests a duel, and the winner would take Miyo home. And if Kiyoko wins, Arata will teach Miyo how to control her abilities. Miyo tries to stop them, but Kiyoko agrees to the duel. They begin the duel, and Kiyoko takes out his sword as his weapon of choice. And Arata tells him he didn’t intend to hold back and takes out a gun.

The duel begins and turns intense. Kiyoko thinks Arata is slow and attacks but is counter-attacked by Arata and hit with a bullet to his hand. In between the duel, Arata reveals that the Usuba were given a gift to defeat anyone with supernatural abilities. Arata turns himself into a clone, and Kiyoko shows his powers with lightning. Arata is shocked to see his power and says that because of people like him, Usuba needs to use their gifts.

Arata is annoyed as Kiyoko asks him if that’s all he has to show for himself. Arata tells him that only a few people could respond so quickly to these attacks. Arata turns himself into many more clones, and the duel continues. Kiyoko attacks with a ball of fire, and Miyo tries to stop him, but Yoshiro stops her, saying she will be in the line of fire. The attack makes Arata fall to the ground. Kiyoko is about to finish him, but he sees Miyo asking him to stop, and a bullet pierces through Miyo, sending her into a mist, and attacks Kiyoko. Kiyoko is on his knees, and Arata says they are done.

Kiyoko is angry, and Miyo is upset. She runs towards him even though Yoshiro tries to stop her. Miyo and Kiyoko try to reach out to each other, but Arata puts a bubble around Kiyoko and tells him that he commends his strength, but protecting Miyo is his duty. Miyo is sobbing on the ground. Kiyoko has fallen on the ground elsewhere. Meanwhile, Okaito and Godo realize that the grotesqueries have started to hunt in packs. They immediately contact Kiyoko.

Hazuki is furious with Kiyoko as he has returned home like a loser and gotten hurt. Kiyoko tells her that he cannot go and bring back Miyo as he has lost a duel, and she had said she didn’t care where she lived. Hazuki hits him multiple times and tells him she won’t sit idly. Miyo always had her best interest towards him, and no matter the hardship she had gone through, she was trying only for him.

My Happy Marriage (Season 1), Episode 10 “Summer Cherry Blossoms, and the Mistake” Ending, Explained:

What is Miyo’s Real Gift?

Kiyoko gets an emergency call from work, and he tells Hazuki that if he doesn’t take care of this emergency and someone falls victim to the problem, Miyo will blame herself, so he needs to get to work. Kiyoko drives to work. The emperor says it is near, and anyone threatening them will be doomed. The emperor looks like a grotesquerie. Arata keeps an eye on the Imperial City and wonders what will happen if they fail to stop the grotesqueries, but he decides to focus on protecting Miyo.

Arata informs Miyo that Kiyoko is doing well, and he tries to provoke her by saying that he is heartless as he chooses to work over her. He shows Miyo her mother’s photo and tells her that her gift was that of telepathy and that the offspring of such gifted people are unique as well. He tells her that what he had said to Kiyoko was just a little bit of the power of this gift, and it was much more powerful and capable. People with this gift are capable of entering anyone’s dream and manipulating it. Miyo wonders why her gifts had not shown up sooner, and Yoshiro enters the room and tells her that the reason for that was because someone had sealed off the power. Miyo asks who it is, and it is revealed it is her mother. And he promises to tell her all the reasons behind her actions.

As expected in this episode, Miyo’s real gift is revealed. The episodes from now on will be interesting as Miyo learns to master her abilities and how she is going to utilize them. She may be the one to take down the emperor. More revelations will occur in the next few episodes as Usuba family secrets will be revealed. We are yet to see what has become of Kaya after she left the Saimori house.
