Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 4 “The Fact That This World Is Far More Beautiful Than Heaven” Recap:

The episode opens with a conversation between a priest and a young lad. The young boy wonders why the stars look so beautiful, yet our world is filthy. The priest says everything falls to the center since the earth is at the center. While people assume being in the center is good, that is not the case. However, the priest does not know why the stars don’t fall to the earth’s center. In the next scene, we see Oczy and Gras chatting. The characters are starkly contrasted—Gras is energized by the stars and their movements, while Oczy remains withdrawn and weighed down by a deep sense of melancholy. Since it has been one year in this branch for Oczy, Gras takes Oczy out for a meal.

The members of the civilian watch wear masks and duel one of the duellists. The man wanted to fight Count Nastula. But there has been a change, and on behalf of Count Nastula, these duellists are fighting the man. Unfortunately, the man has approved of this, so if he loses the duel, he shall die. Sadly, the man loses the duel, and one of the members of the civilian watch kills the man. Oczy and Gras are members of the civilian watch. Even though it is Oczy’s job, he does not seem happy to kill people as he realizes that none of the people he has killed have died with satisfaction. So Oczy wonders if there is a heaven and if these people go to heaven.

What brought joy to Gras?

Seeing a nervous Oczy, Gras asks if Oczy does not find anything he likes in this world. So Oczy says that one should not have expectations as they will always disappoint, and there won’t be anything enjoyable in life. If something is pleasurable, they are born with privilege. Hence, according to Oczy, heaven is the only hope for people. It looks like Gras was exactly like Oczy, but Gras found something to get him excited. As promised, Gras takes Oczy for a meal. One of the customers is unhappy to see the duellists in the tavern. So Oczy sincerely apologizes and asks to be served. The man quietly leaves.

As the constellations have a set pattern and move from east to west every day, Gras notices that some stars move. The thing that fascinated Gras is that the positions of the stars change slightly each day. So Gras consults a monk who says these moving stars are planets, and they know of five planets. The earth that Gras finds makes the most noticeable movements, and it is called Mars. After that day, Gras records the movements of Mars and realizes that Mars moves in a circular path around the constellations. It’s been around two years since Gras started to observe Mars. That day, Gras realizes that the human world may be corrupt, but the stars and nature are perfect.

Navigating Despair and Optimism: The Unpredictable Dynamics of Oczy and Gras

When Gras says that soon Mars will make a perfect circle, the customer in the tavern says Gras started observation at the wrong time, so he won’t be able to witness the perfection. Soon after, Mars takes a diversion and returns to its circular path without completing it. After chatting with Gras, Oczy bumps into other duellists who tell Oczy that Gras was so depressed after he lost his family to the plague. But after a while, Gras became too optimistic. Hence, Gras is unpredictable when it comes to his mood. Soon after the Mars situation, Oczy became low. On their next task, Oczy and Gras need to escort a heretic. Nowak and the team will take care of the execution. On the way, the heretic starts to provoke both Oczy and Gras.

What Truths Will Oczy and Gras Discover When They Seek the Stone Box?

The heretic questions Oczy and Gras about whether there is heaven. The heretic says that 2000 years ago, an Athenian man died from poison, and 1500 years ago, a youth from Nazareth was affixed to a cross, which paved the way for the Catholic Church. So, the heretic believes people use tragedies as fertilizers. By now, Oczy and Gras have pointed their swords at the heretic’s neck. The heretic says the earth is more beautiful than an illusionary heaven that may or may not exist. The proof of that is hiding in the mountains in a stone box. Now, the heretic lets the duellists choose whether to remain ignorant or pave their own path to finding the truth. Immediately, Gras cuts the ropes on the heretic’s hand and asks Oczy not to stop him. The heretic is free now.

In the end, the answers Gras seeks are within reach, thanks to the heretic. Even though Oczy does not say much, he wants to understand why the earth is beautiful even though it is corrupt. Unfortunately for Oczy and Gras, Nowak is in charge, and both will be on the hit list along with the heretic. If the duellists find the box, we will probably learn what is in Rafal’s letter. It will be interesting to see how Oczy and Gras will react when they see evidence, mainly because Gras is already fascinated by stars and planets.
