IFC Films has just released the highly anticipated trailer for the upcoming comedy film “Paint,” starring the supremely talented Owen Wilson in the lead role. The short trailer sees Wilson takes on the character of Carl Nagyl, a celebrated TV painter from Vermont who has everything going for him – from a massive following to his signature van and perm – until a younger, up-and-coming artist threatens to steal his thunder.

The character of Carl Nagyl seems to be inspired by the beloved TV personality Bob Ross, who was known for his instructional show “The Joy of Painting,” a show that ran for almost a decade from 1983 to 1994 on PBS before Ross passed away in 1995.

Alongside Wilson, the comedy features an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renée, Lusia Strus, Stephen Root, and newcomer Lucy Freyer.

Paint is directed and written by Brit McAdams, whose past works include projects such as “Katt Williams: American Hustle,” “Tosh.0”, and “#IMomSoHard.” The film is produced by Peter Brant and Sam Maydew, with Aana Myers as associate producer. It is executive produced by Owen Wilson, Joel David Moore, Amy Jarvela, and Richard J. Bosner.

Wilson seems to have a stacked 2023 as after his performance in “Paint,” he will be next seen on the big screen in the hyped Disney film “Haunted Mansion.” Based on the popular Disney Parks attraction, the film features an all-star cast including Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Jared Leto, Danny DeVito, and Jamie Lee Curtis. “Haunted Mansion” promises to be a thrilling and entertaining ride and is set to be released in August this year.

In addition to his role in “Haunted Mansion,” Wilson is also expected to return as a cast member in the second season of the Disney+ Marvel series “Loki.” The series, which stars Tom Hiddleston as the title character and features Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, and Jonathan Majors, promises to be a must-watch for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Paint” premieres on April 7 in limited theatres.
