Parish Episode 2 features a major character feeling like their end is near. However, the proceedings feel so dull and exasperating that you feel the least bit interested in the drama and the chaos that ensues. At this point, Gray’s grief itself feels repetitively conceived when it should be one of the key connective tissues in the series. I am not anticipating the next episodes to do any better, but let’s hope they do because right now, this is not something I enjoy
Parish Episode 2 Recap:
Episode 2 of Parish, titled ‘Blood in the Water,’ opens with Gray getting flashbacks of his bad times when he realizes that he is now stuck with a body in his place of work along with Colin, who is not of any help. Gray tells Colin that they need to be very careful while disposing of the body so as not to leave any kind of traceable evidence that may convict them. While the two of them are clearing the place, Z, Gray’s partner’s wife, shows up and suspects that something is up, but Gray manages to turn the focus elsewhere.
On the other hand, Zenzo and The Horse have a little tiff because of Zenzo’s little stunt of killing the Lawyer in Gray’s office space. The Horse reminds him that they are here to work and not get into troubles like this one. Zenzo, who is a little twisted, reminds him that he is not doing things like their ‘baba’ would want them to.
After Colin and Gray are done with cleaning, they set out in the car to find a way to get rid of the body. This is where Colin tells Gray that the Zimbawein gangsters are actually into Human Trafficking, and before they can go any further, Colin receives a call from his Parole Officer asking him to come meet him right away. So, Gray drops Colin off, takes the car back to his place, and puts the body in a deep freeze in his garage. Just then, two detectives show up at Gray’s place, but he sends them away, saying he doesn’t know anything about Colin or the robbery that took place.
We also see The Horse and Shamiso at a white businessman’s place, almost bullying him into partnering with them because they now have the passports of the workers who work for him.
Later, Colin and Gray drive out to an abandoned amusement park and dump the body in a lake there. However, Gray’s car gets stuck in the muddy land nearby. This is where old memories of their work together come up, and Gray’s anger towards Colin for always messing things up surfaces. After the little fight, we see Gray again going down his memories, thinking about his son before he finds a spool of rope nearby that eventually helps them get the car out.
On the other hand, Rose—Gray’s wife, has put up an on-sale sign for their house, and while she is going through some of the stuff at the house, possibly for the move, she discovers that Gray still has a gun that he keeps hidden in the house.
Parish Episode 2 Ending, Explained:
The Horse, who has been warned that he should not have any business with Gray, who is still grieving for his son, sits down with him after their job of disposing of the body is done. Gray had previously stated that he would be only doing this one job for him because Colin wanted him to, but The Horse pries that he sticks around and drives him and his son Luke back home.
We can see that Gray doesn’t say anything because he has a certain sense of respect for The Horse. However, while he is driving him and Luke home, a heavily armed convoy starts firing at them. When they are cornered and ambushed, Gray requests The Horse to let him take the boy. The Horse allows him to carry his son away to a nearby cemetery for safekeeping as he fights back. However, The Horse is stuck by one of the bullets and presumably dies (but did he)?
Who are the people who attacked The Horse?
Now, these groups of people who ambushed The Horse essentially feel like white people. So, one can suppose that the businessman that they earlier tried to threaten, or the one whose workers were affected by The Horse stealing the passports, must have ordered the kill. However, it is also possible that Zenzo, The Horses’ elder brother, might be involved, and he made it look like otherwise because he is jealous that his younger brother was appointed the boss instead of him.
What to expect from Parish Episode 3?
We can expect the aftermath of the killing of The Horse. The Zimbawein gang that is not too fond of Gray might be after his life, assuming that he was the one involved in the killing. We may also expect more on the investigation front since the two lousy detectives were sent away from Parish’s doors. Someone more straightforwardly can step in to investigate the robbery and the death of the Lawyer.
