Elliott Montello’s Reckless (2026) brings Scott Adkins in the kind of role he must have mastered by now. Adkins plays a convict on parole trying to get back what he is due. His best bet is his chops as a martial artist, which would ideally help him fight everyone standing in the way of what he wants. However, he isn’t even remotely smart, which puts him at a bit of a disadvantage. His embarrassingly mediocre presence of mind becomes fodder for the film’s elevated comedic gags, which seem closer to the ones we usually see in a Guy Ritchie flick. That is exactly what Matthew Robert Kelly and Stu Small seem to be aiming for with their script.

Even here, you get your usual quips and gags based on misunderstandings and miscalculations, conveyed in a peculiar strain of British accent, coming from foul-mouthed characters. You also get Vinnie Jones in the cast, who makes it seem like your usual Guy Ritchie film. While the writing isn’t as sharp or memorable, it still offers a decent blend of action and comedy to keep its conventional target audience invested in the ride. It isn’t white-knuckle or fatalistic like those John Wick films, nor is it philosophical or psychologically dense by any stretch of logic.

In fact, the stunts are only occasionally present between bits of comedy-drama about two people who only accidentally become buddies. So, rather than an action thriller, this is a comedy of errors about two people who, by a stroke of luck, help each other in a peculiar situation. Thankfully, they possess what the other lacks, which makes an enjoyable duo to watch on screen.

Reckless (2026) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

What happens in Scott Adkins’ Reckless?

The film revolves around Devon (Scott Adkins), a man wronged by his peers, trying to get back what he is owed after a heist, which puts him in prison. Before getting into his life post-prison, it reveals the situation that pushed him there. The film begins with a frenzied heist sequence orchestrated by a couple of masked individuals. Three of them walk out with a few duffel bags filled with cash. They have a minor argument about the way one of them conducted themselves at the crime scene. As it happens, Devon puts the crime scene on fire and walks out. He asks his associates for his bag of cash, thinking it would be his ticket out of the risky life. He believes he would meet them at an airfield to get a flight away from the heat.

Joining him in this journey is his girlfriend, Veronica (Kirsty J. Curtis), who is as excited about the new phase of their life as he is. They arrive at an airfield and wait for the associates to show up. Instead, they get ambushed by a bunch of cops, led by Detective Jackson (Kris Jackson). Devon naively assumes that he can still get out of this mess by pretending to be a violent criminal. He holds Veronica at gunpoint, at least makes it seem so, while holding a phone behind her back. Suffice it to say that the trick doesn’t help him. He gets put behind bars while his mates lead the kind of life he wished to lead. Before being ambushed, he realizes that the duffel bag he drove away with has fake cash, which means he was conned by his mates. That pushes him to seek retribution.

How does Devon meet Kimber?

After spending a few years in prison, Devon gets out on parole. That’s when he tries to get in touch with the person who owes him money. He shows up at the man’s office, not knowing what to expect. At the time, the man, George, was abusing his power against Kimber (Nicole Deon), a woman who also sought justice from him. He violently forces himself on her. So, she fights back and accidentally kills him. Devon walks in the room right after it happened, which leaves him utterly confused. He was there just to get his money, but the situation put him in a bigger mess than he anticipated. He’s also out on parole, which means he can’t be seen associated with anything remotely shady.

As a result, he doesn’t understand how to react when he sees George’s dead body lying on the floor. He realizes someone might assume he killed the man, which can put him at a bigger risk. Still, he manages to fight off two men who barge into the room after noticing George’s blood-soaked body. A few minutes later, he steps out of the scene with Kimber, seeking help from people he knows, to get out of trouble. However, it doesn’t go exactly as he hoped. The first person he meets tries to kill him. Luckily, he has Kimber by his side, who, unlike him, can think quickly on her feet. That’s how she fights back against the attacker by shooting him in his leg. The situation gets worse as the man accidentally shoots himself to death.

After this incident, Devon goes to meet Veronica, hoping she will be waiting for him to get out of prison. However, by then, she had gotten married and had a child. Although heartbroken by this development, he decides to do whatever else he can to get the life he is owed by people who used him to get what they wanted.

Reckless (2026) Movie Ending Explained:

How does Kimber change Devon’s fate?

After a disappointing encounter with the first man, Devon meets Kyle (Adam Deacon) and confronts him about the money. Kyle, who is initially busy showing off his new, lavish lifestyle, comes to his senses and agrees to help Devon with his financial woes. At least he pretends to. Soon, he shows his true colors when a man walks in the room to kill Devon. The said man gets into a violent fight with Devon, following the orders from two men that Devon had never officially met, but had shaped his life. One of them is Trent (Vinnie James), presumably a mob boss, and the other man is his assistant, Willmott (Dean Gaffney). They want to kill Devon because they consider him a disposable criminal.

Trent likely masterminded the heist, which earned everyone but Devon plenty of capital. Once Devon got out of prison, he sought his cut of the pie, which made him seem like a threat to their sanity. They did not want to do what’s right. Instead, they wanted to get rid of the person who questioned them or naively decided to fight back. Regardless of the reasons, Devon finds himself getting slammed by a violent man, who shows no sign of stopping. Devon can’t make a smart choice in this scenario, which, once again, makes Kimber take the reins. She beats the man with a strange weapon he brought inside the house and knocks him unconscious.

After this incident, Devon runs away with her to a location he deems peaceful and devoid of danger. They enjoy a peaceful day lying inside a carousel. At night, they cross paths with Trent and Willmott. That’s the first time Devon sees them in person. Before they can kill him, the cops show up and arrest him. Later, the cops arrive at Trent’s house and arrest him as well. With Devon in prison, Kimber decides to meet him to see how he is doing and stays friends with him. It also makes you realize that if she hadn’t been by his side throughout the day, he may not have even survived, no matter how skilled a fighter he is. That’s how she affects his fate and offers him hope in a future when he can get out of prison to be with a friendly face.
