Saint X (Season 1), Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: I kid you not, the first 10 minutes of the sixth episode of Saint X felt like watching a very different show. A show far better, much more intriguing, and genuinely interesting than what we have been watching so far. Sadly though, the show’s Achilles heel doesn’t take much time to show up, and what we get in the end is the same thing that we have been getting so far- an hour of poorly written, mildly interesting hour of Television which Alycia Debnam-Carey once again carries.

Saint X (Season 1), Episode 6 Recap:

Let us get into the opening ten minutes. It is the day of Alison’s funeral, and we get a glimpse of little Emily’s state of mind- scared, helpless, and sad with nobody to be there for her. The mother is still grieving. And the father is still looking for answers. But neither of them is there for her.

In the present day, a freshly out-of-job Emily cleans the house, thanks to her manic energy kicking in. We see her visiting Clive’s neighborhood, which clearly implies she is hell-bent on finding the content of the letter.

Instead of separating the past and present, I am gonna do things differently for this week.

Rough day for Emily

As I expected, Emily calls Sunita to help her get into Clive’s. But Sunita is obviously pissed about losing her job, all thanks to Emily, and shuns her. But Emily is not in a position to stop, so she does find a way to get into the building and manages to find Clive’s apartment number. However, she doesn’t manage to get inside and sneakily sees Clive coming out of the apartment and locking it.

At home, she brings the news of her getting fired to Josh, who is now at his wit’s end. Josh finally asks the obvious question- whether Emily is having an affair with the Cab driver or not. Emily declines and swears she would never cheat on him and promises to tell him everything at night. Josh reminds her that Bill and Mia are going to come for dinner on the same night.

In the past, Thomas’ parents struggled to shield little Emily from the ripple effect of whatever happened with Alison and consider a fresh start.

Alison wants to explore Saint X

If the show has done one thing right, then it has to be the character of Alison. Of course, West Duchovny has done a really impressive job of pulling it off. With things between Tyler and her completely over, Alison focuses her attention on Edwin again, who is more than happy to reciprocate. While Alison enthusiastically speaks about her desire to soak in the culture of the island, Edwin teases her about not getting out of the resort so far. This gives Alison the push to sign up the Thomas family for an Island tour during the evening, where the highlight would be visiting a local restaurant.

But Claire gets cold feet just when the bus is about to leave, and the parents don’t seem too enthusiastic about getting out of the confinement of the resort either. A heartbroken Alison has to pull out of the planned exploration and ends up in the common washroom, trying to hide her tears. Dana, who has never interacted with Alison before, comforts her. I find this scene surprising only because the character of Dana hasn’t been established properly.

What else is cooking on the island?

Here’s where terrible writing ruins everything. The show’s failure to establish the supporting characters and their arcs other than Edwin, Clive, and the Thomas family seems to bite them in the “you-know-where” in this episode. Desmond is having an inner dilemma after finding out about Edwin and Sara. Ethan and Dana are back to how they were after Dana’s tryst with Alison, the gay couple randomly coming across Edwin being blown by somebody in the darkness of night; all happens in this episode. But nothing manages to make an impact because this is no “The White Lotus” after all if you know what I mean.

Saint X (Season 1), Episode 6 Ending Explained:

Why does Emily lose it with her parents?

Back to the present again, Clive finds his room has been ransacked, and one of his flatmates informs him that the person behind it is another flatmate, Farhad. Clive does find the letter intact, though, and neither Emily nor us know what it is about.

Meanwhile, Josh gets to know everything from Sunita, which I saw coming from a mile away. He gets back home and confronts Emily regarding the fire she is playing with, but he still comes off more as a concerned boyfriend than a usual asshole. While Josh promises not to say anything during dinner with Bill and Mia, it is Emily who erupts into anger and rants about how she has been pretending for her whole life in order to be normal, while that has only damaged her emotionally. Blaming it on her parents and their lack of effort in finding out what really happened to Alison, Emily storms off. After Bill and Mia leave, Josh tries to have a word with Emily, but that doesn’t go anywhere as she leaves in need of a walk.

Her walk is not any ordinary walk as she ends up at the restaurant and sees a man (Farhad) harassing Clive regarding something. Emily keeps following the two and ends up in the same place where Clive had taken her earlier. Things take a really ugly turn here, and after getting constantly pushed by Farhad, Clive loses it and kills him in a moment of rage. A horrified Emily witnesses it from afar and runs away.

With two more episodes to go, this show better start sorting out their endgame. I don’t have much hope for it but still wish for it to end interesting, for my own sake.
