In 2003, Jack Black starred in the blockbuster comedy “School of Rock.” The film was a great success, and given its huge fanbase, of course, it deserved a sequel. Many dream of witnessing the “School of Rock” once again, and Black is one of those who dreams of a sequel, too. It has been two decades since the film directed by Richard Linklater premiered in 2003. Since then no updates on the sequel have come in talks as such. However, the lead actor of the musical comedy told JOE  that if there is a sequel to “School of Rock,” he is more than willing to reprise his role as energetic musician Dewey Finn.

Black said, referencing the movie title of the 1984 sequel to Breakin’, “I wish there’d be a School Of Rock 2 Electric Boogaloo,”

What are Jack Black’s expectations from the sequel of School Of Rock?

Directed by Richard Linklater, “School of Rock” follows the story of struggling rock guitarist Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black), who is fired from his band and subsequently poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. After witnessing the musical talent of the students, Dewey forms a band of fourth-graders to attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands and use his winnings to pay his rent.

Penned by Mike White and produced by Scott Rudin, the film starred Black alongside Joan Cusack, Mike White, and Sarah Silverman. It was both a critical and commercial success. It grossed $131 million worldwide on a $35 million budget and garnered positive reviews from critics, who praised Black’s performance and humor.

If there is a sequel to the film sometime in the future, Black has certain expectations from it. He admitted that he would like to see the original film’s writer, White, return to pen the script for the hypothetical sequel. However, he acknowledged that the writer is currently busy writing and directing his Emmy-winning HBO series, “The White Lotus.”

Black said, “You know Mike White wrote the first one, and he’s a genius. And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with [The] White Lotus, the best show on TV.”

Although the “School of Rock” sequel is unlikely, Nickelodeon did create a TV show based on the movie, which ran for three seasons from 2016 to 2018. Moreover, considering the movie’s popularity, a stage musical adaptation also opened on Broadway in 2015 but closed in 2019.
