One of the highly anticipated films of the year is “The Bikeriders,” starring Tom Hardy and Austin Butler. Its new trailer was released recently, giving insights into what to expect from the upcoming crime thriller film. Directed by Jeff Nichols, the film tells a fictional story inspired by the 1967 photo book of the same name by Danny Lyon, depicting the lives of the Outlaws MC, a Chicago-based motorcycle club, and their evolution over ten years. The film features an ensemble cast including Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, and Norman Reedus. The film premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on August 31, 2023, and was originally scheduled to mark its theatrical release last year following the premiere. However, the release got delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Later, Focus Features acquired the film from producer New Regency and scheduled the film to release in theaters this summer. Recently, Focus Features released a new trailer for The Bikeriders, elevating the excitement among the audience. The trailer featuring Butler, Hardy, and Comer seems promising as it gives a glimpse of the premise revolving around a criminal gang that eventually morphs into a Goodfellas-like criminal organization.
What’s in store for The Bikeriders?
The recently released trailer provides a more clear picture of the premise of “The Bikeriders.” It reveals more about the protagonist of the film, Hardy’s character. Hardy plays the role of Johnny, who is the leader of the Outlaws MC. Since it’s a crime thriller genre film, good action is expected. Hardy being the lead character of the film is seen showing off his action chops. The trailers tease a dark arc for his character as he embraces increasingly violent ways to maintain his power.
Moreover, Hardy will also be using a new voice and accent for the role. Talking about the other lead actor of the film, Austin Butler who will be performing the role of Benny. Like Hardy’s character, Benny is also a violent character. However, he remains empathetic, and much of this stems from his budding relationship with Comer’s Kathy. This will be Butler’s violent character after his recent role in “Dune: Part Two.”
“The Bikeriders” review since its premiere last year was mostly positive. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film received an average rating of 6.7/10. The website’s consensus reads: “Fueled by a charismatic cast and the gritty authenticity of writer-director Jeff Nichols’ approach, The Bikeriders offers a conventional yet impactful look at motorcycle culture.”
The film is scheduled to mark its theatrical release on June 21, 2024.
