The first trailer for the new adaptation of The Crow has finally been released. Starring Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, the trailer gives a glimpse of what can be expected from the upcoming film. Based on the graphic novel by James O’Barr, the trailer for the upcoming film reveals new footage of Skarsgård as Eric alongside FKA Twigs as his fiancée, Shelly Webster. Since it’s an adaptation of a 1994 film, the film will follow the same premise as the original, but Eric’s character has certainly been modernized for today’s audience to feel more connected.

The film follows the story of Eric returning from the dead to carry out his vengeance after he and Shelly are brutally murdered.

What can be expected from The Crow Remake?

Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film is penned by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider. For the unversed, the film is based on the 1989 limited comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr. It will be the fifth installment in The Crow film series, serving as a remake of the original film made in 1994, starring Brandon Lee. Since it’s a remake, the plot remains the same as the original film. However, Eric Draven’s character is modernized for this new version of The Crow. The director of the film opened up about how he sought to work on Draven’s looks. He shared that the new look was partly inspired by how he used to look himself, along with some more modern influences. The reason for such amendments in the new look is for today’s youth to feel a connection with the new take on Eric Draven.

He told Vanity Fair, “I think Bill’s beauty is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss, he becomes this thing that he can’t even control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.’”

Indeed, the intentions of the filmmaker are in favor of the audience, yet not everyone is thrilled with these changes. However, Sandler is well aware of adhering to the original context of the film, which not only gives the moviegoers a chance to relive The Crow through this remake but Sandler also hopes that with the upcoming film, late actor Brandon Lee would also be “proud” of the result.

Sandler said, “Brandon was an original voice, and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow, and I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again. His soul is very much alive in this film. There’s a real fragility and beauty to his version of the Crow, and I think Bill feels like he is a successor to that.”

Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs lead the film alongside Isabella Wei, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger.

The Crow will be released in movie theaters on June 7, 2024.
