Actor Viggo Mortensen is one of those rare people who isn’t only great in his field but has certainly been triumphant in the entire film industry. From showing off his acting chops to providing his directorial vision, Mortensen is indeed the master in all of them. Once again, the all-rounder is back on the field to give the audience full-fledged entertainment. Mortensen’s latest film, The Dead Don’t Hurt, released its first trailer, in which the actor is seen on a ride for revenge. The film not only features Mortensen in the lead role, but he also writes and directs it. Additionally, he has even composed the film score.ย 

Everything about Viggo Mortensen’s latest film ‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’:ย 

The Dead Don’t Hurt is a Western film written, directed, produced, and composed by one and only Mortensen. The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, which was later acquired by Shout Studios. The film will now finally receive a wide theatrical release on May 31, 2024. Moreover, the film’s cast includes Vicky Krieps, Solly McLeod, Garret Dillahunt, Colin Morgan, Ray McKinnon, Luke Reilly, Atlas Green, and Danny Huston.

The synopsis of the film reads: “In the 1860s, French Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy falls in love with Danish immigrant to North America, Holger Olsen, in San Francisco, but they are separated and kept apart by the Civil War.”

The new trailer gives a vivid glimpse of what the viewers can expect from the film. The trailer begins with an opening act of violence that teases the following events. The trailer follows the budding romance between French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps) and Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Mortensen). They seek to build a life for each other in the Old West. However, the American Civil War looms, and despite Vivienne’s protest, Holger enlists to fight for the Union to liberate the people from slavery. Besides, something tragic takes place, which turns his life upside down. After returning from the war, he sets out to inflict terrible vengeance upon those who wronged his family. Concisely, the film tells the tale of romance, revenge, and the American Civil War.ย 

The trailer also features stunning Western landscapes shot in Canada and Mexico. Mortensen has taken on this multifaceted task before, as this is his second feature as director/writer/star/composer; he made his directorial debut with 2020’s Falling.ย 

The Dead Don’t Hurt was well received by the critics on its premiere last year. 85% of 20 critics’ reviews are positive on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 6.5/10.ย
