The Good Bad Mother (Season 1), Episodes 5 & 6 Recap:

Episodes 5

As Mi-joo meets her children, she sees Kang-ho at her place, taking her back to her happy memories. However, she is soon brought back to reality when she remembers how he dumped her for something significant in his life at that time. It makes her sad and agitated, and she shuts the door on him. Young-soon, in the meantime, searches for her son and finds him at Mi-joo’s place. While returning home, she is amazed to see how persistent her son is about finding the lost ball. Kang-ho complains about chest pain after seeing Mi-joo, and his mother smiles at the sight of her son.

On the other hand, Geum-ja shares the details about Kang-ho’s circumstances with her daughter, and Mi-joo is shocked to learn about it. After the kids have gone to bed, the mother and daughter hang out together like old times, and sensing something is not right with Mi-joo, her mother pleads with her to move back with them.

The next day, Young-soon suggests Kang-ho stay home due to the forecast of rain. However, Kang-ho ends up throwing a ball outside Mi-joo’s house instead. On his way home, he spots Mi-joo at Mrs. Jo’s place, where she is seen playing with the twins and a dog. Meanwhile, Kang-ho’s neighbor notices him reciting the trespassing act and gets inspired to write a song about it.

As the rain starts pouring, the man realizes his clothes have an unpleasant pig odor. He approaches Young-soon and expresses his concern that her farm is negatively affecting his career. He mentions his intention to escalate the matter to the Livestock division of the village. When the man reaches the office, he angrily shouts at the manager. However, he is left stunned by the manager’s good looks.

At Mi-joo’s place, the children make faces for eating pizza and worrying about the food they might have to eat in the US. However, Mi-joo reassures them once there, and they can always eat something other than foreign cuisine. As she engages with the children, she notices a closed nail salon nearby, catching her attention.

In the next scene, the division manager meets Young-soon and asks for her cooperation. Young-soon assures him that she will do her best to meet his expectations. We then see her take her son to rehab, where he wishes to have a pet dog. Understanding their current circumstances, Young-soon explains to her son that having a dog would require high maintenance, making it difficult for them.

The story then moves ahead with Young-soon visiting a doctor for an endoscopy as her stomach pain worsens. While undergoing the medical examination, she catches sight of Oh Tae-soo on the television screen, recalling memories of the time he had offered his support to her.

On the other hand, while clubbing, Ha-young takes out her pill bottle. As she sees the pill, a flashback of the accident triggers her. She remembers that her father had shown her a video recording of Kang-ho pushing the woman and her child into the river. However, Tae-soo twisted the story by telling her that the woman and the child were related to Kang-ho. Since Tae-soo can not be involved with the police as he was associated with Kang-ho’s father’s death, he uses his daughter to take revenge.

In the present time, we see Ha-young hysterically laughing and breaking glass. Back at her home, when she reaches, she sees her father having a dinner party. That is when she repeats that she had roofied Kang-ho, and her father feels worried. At the same time, Song is looking for evidence against Tae-soo to control him.

At this point, multiple things are happening simultaneously. Young-soon is cooking food for the musician neighbor. The neighbor has a verbal spat with the community manager. Mi-joo is considering opening a nail salon of her own, but her mother dismisses the idea due to the lack of funds. The neighbor throws away the food Young-soon cooked and gets into a physical fight with her while Kang-ho tries to intervene. As a result, the mother-son duo and the neighbor end up at the police station. While Young-soon tries to cooperate, the musician refuses to calm down.

However, a memory triggers in Kang-ho, leading him to recite a violation act against the musician. Meanwhile, Ha-young is grounded for her misbehavior the previous night, and her father warns her about it. But she reminds him that everything could change if Kang-ho remembers his memories. Realizing this, Tae-soo spreads the word to have Kang-ho killed. Soon, we see Tae-soo’s men surrounding Kang-ho, ready to attack him while he is playing with an animal. However, just as they are about to strike, Song’s men, who were hiding in Kang-ho’s cupboard, also emerge. The episode ends on that suspenseful note.

Meanwhile, Tae-soo’s men struggle to complete tasks and flee the scene. They report their failure to their boss, but before they can finish explaining, they get crashed by Song’s men, who notice a distinctive tattoo on their bodies.

On another front, Young-soon, Kang-ho’s mother, learns about the incident but dismisses her son’s claims as a fabricated story. When Song discovers the botched operation, he becomes furious with his men for failing to locate the original copy of Tae-soo’s paternity test. Realizing that their rival now poses a threat to Kang-ho, Song orders his men to protect him at all costs.

Meanwhile, Sam-sik, facing the consequences of his gambling addiction, finds himself in trouble with his boss. Demanding compensation for the chaos caused during a fight, Sam-sik’s boss becomes increasingly violent, resorting to physical punishment when Sam-sik fails to pay up.

In the musician’s case, Baek Hoon-ah meets Chief Son Yong-rak, and we learn they were once schoolmates. As they catch up, Hoon-ah brings up the issue concerning Young-soon. Meanwhile, Mi-joo becomes interested in real estate after her mother agrees to use her savings for a nail salon. Coincidentally, while Kang-ho notices Mi-joo boarding a bus, she accidentally drops her wallet. Concerned, Kang-ho decides to follow her to return the wallet safely. He eventually tracks her down at an aquarium shop, but she leaves before he can reach her.

While Kang-ho continues his pursuit, Mi-joo encounters a woman complaining about her nails while buying herbicides. Mi-joo kindly offers help, and the woman suggests a free manicure stall at her shop. Although the owner is still determining the future, Mi-joo seizes this opportunity and agrees to help with odd jobs in exchange for the space.

Meanwhile, Kang-ho continues his search for Mi-joo. When a thief steals the wallet from him – without a second thought, Kang-ho throws an apple at the thief, causing him to drop the stolen wallet. In that instant, Kang-ho instinctively recites the winning motto he learned from Song. The commotion created by Kang-ho’s actions catches Mi-joo’s attention, and she rushes to the scene.

As they make their way home together, Young-soon, Kang-ho’s mother, scolds her son, triggering another memory from his past. He reflects on how Mi-joo used to bring him meals while studying for his bar exam.

Filled with remorse, Young-soon sincerely apologizes to Mi-joo for the trouble she caused in the past and for her previous rudeness. She acknowledges the sacrifices Mi-joo made for her son during that difficult time and expresses her heartfelt gratitude.

The son takes Hoon-ah on tour around town, eager to reconnect with the locals. As they stroll through the streets, a casual singing session ensues, and unexpectedly, it feels as if the pig farm in the village has transformed into a vibrant concert venue. The infectious joy spreads among the onlookers, and the son and Hoon-ah begin brainstorming plans to involve more singers and engage the community in various projects. Young-soon overhears their exchange amid their animated conversation, which makes her sad.

The show then shifts its focus to Young-soon, who becomes engrossed in the delivery process of her pigs. Meanwhile, Kang-ho embarks on a mission to deliver medicines to Sung-ae. Along the way, he finds solace by the riverside, attempting to fish while looking for any sign of Mi-joo. Unbeknownst to Kang-ho, Sam-sik observes him from a distance, which triggers a long-forgotten memory of their past encounter at a company dinner. Back then, Kang-ho, feeling embarrassed by Sam-sik’s presence, had paid him off, an act that left Sam-sik angry and resentful.

When Sam-sik finds himself in trouble with the law due to stolen goods and in desperation, he pleads with Kang-ho for help. However, Kang-ho reminds him of the times when Sam-sik used to bully him, making it clear that he won’t lend a hand. In the present day, Sam-sik approaches Kang-ho, confronting him. However, to Sam-sik’s dismay, Kang-ho struggles to recall anything from their past because of his memory loss, leaving him feeling helpless and confused. Witnessing this tense encounter, the twins notice Kang-ho and take him to their home. During this encounter, Mi-joo meets Kang-ho.

Upon Sam-sik’s parents return home, they notice someone hiding at Young-soon’s place. Out of curiosity, they investigate and discover their son inside the house. In the next scene, we witness Sam-sik learning about the events that unfolded with Young-soon and Kang-ho, leading him to feel deep guilt for his past behavior towards Kang-ho.

Meanwhile, Mi-joo cooks dinner for everyone, showcasing her culinary skills. The atmosphere lightens as the twins playfully joke around with their friends, creating a warm ambiance. However, as the evening progresses, Mi-joo discreetly signals Kang-ho to leave. Suddenly, a realization dawns upon himโ€”he remembers the pain he caused Mi-joo in the past, so he decides to leave.
