The Idol Episode 2 Recap:

“Double Fantasy”

The new episode of The Idol opens with everyone, including Nikki, Chaim, Leia, Destiny, and Xander, summoned to Jocelyn’s mansion. They discuss among themselves why they have all been called early in the morning. Meanwhile, Jocelyn’s bedroom, which usually opens with her sleeping on the bed, is surprisingly tucked in, and she texts Tedros about what she will do. Jocelyn appears confident about the remix she and Tedros came up with the other night and is a little nervous about playing it for her team.

Jocelyn then greets everyone and tells them that since she wasn’t happy with the new single – “World Class Sinner,” because it didn’t feel like her, she went ahead and redid it. Nikki does not have it right off the bat, but on Jocelyn’s request, she gives the new version a listen. The redid version is, of course, sexier and more provocative, we can feel the change in energy that Tedros talked about in the previous episode, but Nikki is unhappy with it.

She gets angry at Jocelyn when she claims to put it out on her own if the label is uninterested. She goes ahead and reopens her past, gaslighting her about what they (the label) did for her when she canceled her tour at the last minute because she went crazy after her mother’s death. She tells Jocelyn that this new version will not work as it is not commercial enough. On top of it, it is too late to do this new version, especially when the releases are weeks away. She ends her angry rant by asking Jocelyn to be more grateful, making her storm off.

She then tries to reach out to Tedros, whose phone is unavailable. Next, we see her trying new tweaks with the track and chocking and masturbating, fantasizing about Tedros. It is when Tedros calls her back, and they talk about how she got excited and played the track for her team. She tells him about their reaction, and he says she shouldn’t have played it since it is incomplete. He compliments her on how powerful her voice could be and that together they need to bring it out. Jocelyn asks him if he wants to come to her place and work on the track. He passes on her offer, saying he is busy when we can see he isn’t. As both are on the call, we see Izaak engaging with Jocelyn’s assistant Leia. Since Izzak and Tedros are sitting in front of each other while on the call, we can see something bigger.

The next day, Jocelyn arrives at the set where her music video will be shot. The location is expensive, and the music label is eager to wrap things up quickly. However, Jocelyn’s makeup takes around three hours since they have to cover cut marks on her thighs with an airbrush. She finally goes up to the set location and voices her opinion about the ironic staging to Xander. She is not completely happy with it but goes ahead with the takes because she is already late. The shoot turns chaotic when Jocelyn is not satisfied with the take and requests the director for another one, claiming that she can do better.

The chaotic back-and-forth zooms in on the entertainment industry’s pressure on its talent. On the one hand, they claim that talent has all the power, but when voicing their opinion, they are always left unheard. Simultaneously, the people around them are always putting them on the spot, failing to appreciate or acknowledge what might be going on inside their heads. On the set, we also see Talia (the journalist) trying to find a story, Destiny finding dirt on Tedros, and Chaim making sure that Jocelyn doesn’t waste another day in the shoot because it would lead the label away from her. Meanwhile, we can see Nikki, who has had it with Jocelyn trying to court Dyanne.

Jocelyn somehow musters some courage and does the take perfectly, but the technical team messes it up, and the perfect take gets out of focus. Jocelyn, who has been struggling till now, finally breaks down. We can see her upset and missing her mother because this is her first time doing something like this without her. Even though she is ready for another take, her feet which are badly bruised and bleeding, are not a good sign. It is when Nikki steps in and tells Jocelyn to go home, promising to do the shoot the next day.

Jocelyn returns home to the news that Nikki has scrapped the music video. It is when Chaim makes her aware of the losses he has been bearing and covering up. He pleads her to get herself together, or the music industry wouldn’t take long to bury her. She then calls Tedros and invites him over. After Tedros receives her call, we see him chatting with Dyanne. It becomes clearer that Tedros runs some secretive society/cult where he courts promising talent/broken stars and rehashes them into better versions. However, since we also know that he is in a lot of debt, he isn’t doing this just for the sake of it. When Dyanne tells him that Jocelyn’s label has approached her for signing with them, he asks her to tell them to call him for negotiations.

The Idol Episode 2 Ending, Explained:

Who is Tedros, and what does he do?

Tedros, along with Izaak and Chloe, arrive at Jocelyn’s place. They all party and get high on drugs when Tedros and Jocelyn retire to her room and Izaak and Leia to hers. Chloe can be seen bewitched by all that Jocelyn has achieved. She secretly looks at Tedros and Jocelyn as having kinky, submissive sex. Meanwhile, Izaak also lures Leia into hooking up with him, but before they do it, she asks him about how he knows Tedros. Izaak tells her that Tedros once listened to him singing in a church with his parents and decided to sign him. Leia realizes that Tedros is some manager who courts underrated talents and grooms them in his own Godly way.

When Jocelyn and Tedros are on her bed, he proposes that he move in with her for work purposes, as Chloe sings to her heart’s content and the others join her. The ending of The Idol episode 2 means that Tedros’ grand plan includes managing Jocelyn and possibly getting himself out of debt with her money.
