The Summer I Turned Pretty (Season 2), Episode 4 “Love Game” Recap:
Just like the last episode, we discover Conrad experiencing a bout of anxiety attack while at the beach. Steven rushes to his side, inquiring about the assistance he can provide. He skillfully diverts Conrad’s attention until the panic attack subsides. Conrad acknowledges that these episodes have intensified following his mother’s passing. Inquiring about the trigger behind this recent incident, Conrad discloses that his acceptance into Stanford was the cause of the panic attack. While it should be joyous news, he is uncertain about leaving Jeremiah during this emotionally volatile period. Understanding his concerns, Steven promises to keep it confidential.
The following day, Julia and her child, Skye, greet the teenagers as they prepare for the open house. Conrad and Jeremiah contemplate disrupting the event, but they lack a concrete plan.
Conrad has a private conversation with Julia, expressing how meaningful the place is to everyone, filled with cherished memories connected to the beach house. However, Julia remains disinterested; living on the other side of the country, she cannot afford the costly maintenance it requires.
The brothers may lack a solid plan, but Belly is enthusiastic about deterring potential buyers nonetheless. Upon the realtor’s arrival, she claims that Julia has called off the event. Although this little fib fails to deceive, the air conditioning suddenly malfunctions, leading Julia to cancel the event after all. There’s a subtle implication that Steven might have had a hand in this act of sabotage.
While Julia looks into this latest predicament, she advises the teenagers to vacate the premises for the day, giving her some space. Belly suggests heading to the boardwalk and invites Skye to join the adventure. This little outing swiftly transforms into a competition between Team Belly (Belly, Taylor, and Skye) and Team Conrad (Conrad, Jeremiah, and Steven).
They kick off with a round of laser tag. Conrad’s team emerges triumphant. Next, Steven outperforms Taylor in rock climbing. This is followed by a basketball match, where Belly and Conrad compete against each other. The elderly couple visibly bonds during these contests, playfully teasing each other. Belly prevails over Conrad, claiming a cuddly toy of her choice as the prize.

As they stroll through the arcades, Belly experiences flashbacks of past moments spent there. One memory involves Conrad inadvertently upsetting her when she was just 13 years old. Conrad shattered her heart when he chased after another girl. Since her early teenage years, Belly has always been ardently pursuing Conrad without reservation.
In the present time, Taylor observes Conrad and Belly reconnecting once again. She remarks on this intriguing turn of events. However, Belly also manages to spend time bonding with Jeremiah. It appears that the love triangle is back in play. The rivalry persists as they engage in a dance-off. Skye triumphs over Jeremiah, resulting in a tied score of 2-all.
In another location, Laurel meets up with Cleveland in New York. He has followed her to the event with the hope of asking her out on a date. During their conversation, they discuss the loss of Susannah and Laurel’s grief. She admits that she’s been concealing her overwhelming sorrow from Belly to protect her. Cleveland believes that Laurel should open up more to her daughter and share her feelings with her. However, Laurel is not quite ready to let down her emotional walls for Belly at this point. Nevertheless, she agrees to go on a date with Cleveland. Back at Cousins Beach, the final game commences. It’s a go-kart race between the two teams, and Conrad’s team emerges victorious. As a result, Belly is tasked with riding the Tower of Terror as a forfeit.
