The Wheel of Time (Season 2) Prime Video Episode 6 (titled “Eyes Without Pity”) reflects how vast its source material is. The episode is filled with notable events, marking major shifts in all the major characters’ respective character arcs. However, the highlight of the episode would be Madeleine Madden’s sincerely tormenting turn as Egwene passes through hellfire. Here is a recap of everything that happened and the ending that features Egwene.
The Wheel of Time (Season 2) Prime Video Episode 6 “Eyes Without Pity” Recap:
Rand Leaves Moiraine
In the last episode, Rand (Josha Stradowski) allows himself to sleep, in order to meet Lanfear (Natasha O’Keeffe) in the dream world. Expectedly, Rand ‘wakes up’ in the dream, chained to a wheel while Lanfear, adorned in all black, watches him from a throne. Lanfear asks Rand to trust her, claiming that not everything that happened between them is a lie. Rand hesitates. To that, Lanfear informs him that it is not a coincidence that he ended up in Cairhien, where Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) has some level of influence, even without her Aes Sedai powers. It is not a coincidence that Logain (Alvaro Morte) is also there to train Rand in the ways of channeling. Rand understands that Moiraine orchestrated everything. He also understands that the best way to protect Moiraine, and others, at this moment, is to make a wary alliance with Lanfear. After all, Lanfear did always love the Dragon Reborn. So, Rand decides to leave Moiraine’s mansion.
Lanfear Gifts A Dream
After leaving Moiraine, Rand encounters Ishamael (Fares Fares) in the dream world. Lanfear also appears there and stops Ishamael from doing anything. She makes Ishamael disappear from Rand’s dream world. She once again claims that she has protected Rand from Ishamael every night. To gain Rand’s trust, Lanfear allows him to travel through the world of dreams and see what Egwene (Madeleine Madden) is doing at that moment. Rand sees Egwene imprisoned and chained. He asks Lanfear to help him rescue Egwene. He offers anything Lanfear wishes in return.
Rand also meets Logain in the institute. He is finally successful in convincing Logain to help her. He offers Logain the chance to be in history, which Logain desperately craved. This does the trick. Logain teaches Rand to embrace the One Power and allow it to flow through the body, instead of resisting or trying to control it. Rand takes too much, and cannot handle the full force. But, it becomes a good starting point.
Egwene’s Struggle
After being enslaved by the Seanchan empire’s Lady Suroth, Egwene is thrown in a prison cell. Here, she starts to learn the cruel lessons that Seanchan has in store for women who can channel. Seanchan Empire believes in controlling the women who can channel the One Power. Thus, the ‘Damanes’ are born. The ‘Damanes,’ referring to the ‘leashed’ women with the One Power ability, are glorified slaves in the Seanchan world. Each ‘Damane’ has a Sul’dam, the person who controls these women. The Sul’dams control Damanes via the instrument known as A’dam.
Egwene meets her Sul’dam. A woman named Renna (Xelia Mendes-Jones). Renna lets Egwene know the brutal way that she cannot channel her power unless Renna wishes so. The A’dam makes a powerful connection between the Damane and the Sul’dam. Egwene learns it the hard way, as she feels Renna’s connection and control over her power. And slowly she learns that in this new life, Renna has control over her life as well.
Lan Meets Siuan Sanche
Lan (Daniel Henney), who was traveling with Aes Sedai Alanna (Priyanka Bose) and her warders, divulges his intention to meet the Amyrlin Seat (The Leader of White Tower Aes Sedai), Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo). We should remember that Siuan banished Moiraine officially; which she did to ensure Moiraine embarked on her seemingly final task. Moiraine and Siuan Sanche are, in fact, secret lovers. Lan informs Siuan Sanche about Rand being the Dragon Reborn, which was not known when Moiraine was banished. Siuan comes to Cairhien, where both Rand and Moiraine are there. Moiraine, who was just amending her ways to repair her relationship with her sister and nephew, is shocked to know that Siuan has come there.
Mat and Rand’s Reunion
Meanwhile, Min (Kae Alexander) brings Mat (Donal Finn) to Cairhien, as she was instructed by Ishamael. As Ishamael wanted, Mat and Rand come across each other. Oblivious to any such nefarious plot, Mat and Rand are elated to find each other. Rand tells Mat that Egwene is captured by the Seanchan invaders in Falme. Mat tells him that he will join him in his quest to rescue Egwene.
When Mat comes to tell Min that, she cannot pretend anymore. She reveals the plot. She asks Mat to not accompany Rand as the future she has seen has Mat kill Rand. The already broken Mat feels betrayed one more time. Despite wanting the opposite, Mat chooses to heed Min and not join Rand. However, Rand’s journey is quickly cut short, as Lan and Alanna stop Rand from leaving Cairhien.
Aes Sedai Ryma Gets Taken
When Elayne (Ceara Coveney) and Nynaeve (Zoe Robins) came to Falme, they were harbored by the Aes Sedai Ryma (Nyokabi Gethaiga) and her warder. Elayne and Nynaeve wanted to spring into action, in order to rescue Egwene. But Ryma Sedai guides them into the ways of the Seanchan. She reveals that some of her Aes Sedai sisters have perished fighting this evil, leaving her one small chance to fight back. It’s the instrument, the A’dam, that the Seanchan people use to leash the Damanes. While trying to understand how that instrument can be broken, Nynaeve’s uncontrolled force of power reveals their position.
As the Seanchan warriors, with the fighting Damanes and Sul’dams, arrive at the location, Ryma asks Nynaeve and Elayne to remain hidden. Ryma and her warder sacrifice themselves so that Nynaeve and Elayne can have a chance. Ryma gets taken as a Damane and her warder gets killed in the battle.
The Wheel of Time (Season 2) Prime Video Episode 6 “Eyes Without Pity” Ending Explained:
How Did Egwene Touch the Water Jug?
Throughout her torment, Sul’dam Renna tells Egwene that she would be forced back from touching the water jug if she perceives that as a weapon to fight against Renna. Egwene is hit by the invisible One Power every time she tries to reach the water jug. It means as long as Egwene has hope, or desire to fight, she would not be able to touch the water jug. After multiple attacks, Egwene finally seems to give up, as her battered and bruised hand could clutch the handle of the jug.
She is able to do so because it seems she no longer believes that she can leave. Renna tells her that only when she accepts the fate of Damane’s life, will she be able to touch the water jug. However, it is possible that Egwene has not lost hope. She might have just convinced herself to ensure her perception of the water jug as a weapon changes. That does not mean she cannot think of anything else as a weapon.
Who was the imprisoned Blue Ajah Sitter?
The room adjacent to Egwene’s has another prisoner. Ryma Sedai has told Nynaeve and Elayne that one of the Blue Ajah Sitter is captured by the Seanchan invaders. Now we see which one it is. It is Maigan. One of the leaders of Blue Ajah, sits in Siuan Sanche’s council. We have seen her provide counsel to Moiraine when Moiraine was awaiting her punishment. Maigan tells Egwene that Egwene, in her fight against her Sul’dam, lasted longer than she had done.
What is next for Liandrin?
After it is revealed that Liandrin Sedai (Kate Fleetwood) is a Darkfriend, meaning she is one from Black Ajah, we see Lanfear visit her. Lanfear reveals Liandrin’s history of abuse from men, explaining why she harbors such a strong dislike for all men. Except one. Her son. Lanfear feels that Liandrin is once again doing the bidding of a man, Ishamael in this case, for another man, Liandrin’s son. She tells Liandrin that she will free her from that, then proceeds to kill Liandrin’s son.
