Pushed ahead by a few weeks of its planned theatrical release, Barbarian premiered at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con and at the Arrow Video FrightFest to mostly positive reactions. The Bill Skarsgård starring horror movie follows a young woman Tess (played by Black Mirror fame Georgina Campbell) who has rented a new apartment recently. However, when she actually reaches the apartment, she gets to know that the apartment has already been booked by Skarsgård’s character Keith.
Unaware of what to do in a situation like this, Tess decides to stay with Keith for the night, in spite of everything in the house feeling out of place. American indie darling Justin Long also stars in the low-key chiller as a character named AJ.
Directed by Zach Cregger, who people in the comedy scene might know as a member of the sketch comedy show The Whitest Kids U’know, Barbarian feels like an intense horror thriller whose synopsis read as “Traveling to Detroit for a job interview, a young woman books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.”
Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes currently holds the movie at a 94% score with the consensus reading, “Smart, darkly humorous, and above all scary, Barbarian offers a chilling and consistently unpredictable thrill ride for horror fans.”

Barbarian was released in a movie theatre on September 9th, 2022 after getting postponed from a scheduled release on August 31st.
Coming to streaming plans, Barbarian has officially now landed on HBO Max (owned by Warner Bros. Discovery) because of Dinsey’s renewed deal with Fox and HBO. In India, Barbarian is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
