The Worst of Evil (Season 1), Episode 10 Recap:
The episode begins with Jun-mo and Gi-cheul having drinks. Jun-mo asks him why he wasn’t informed about his plans, but Gi-cheul apologizes and tells him since he had dealt with the Chinese, he needed to deal with the Japanese. Gi-cheul asks about his relationship with Hae-ryeon, and Jun-mo calls it purely business. Gi-cheul takes Jun-mo by surprise by telling him that this is going to be his last deal, and he wants to leave this business and live a quiet life with Eui-jeong.
He also asks Jun-mo to take over the business in his absence. Jun-mo tries to convince Gi-cheul to forget about that life as Eui-jeong was a cop, but Gi-cheul is determined. Jun-mo and Gi-cheul go to a conference and they take Eui-jeong along. Gi-cheul tells Eui-jeong that he is going to be investing in the redevelopment of these areas, and Min-goo shows up. Jun-mo is evidently uncomfortable with everything that’s going on.
Min-goo has Gi-cheul’s attention and freaks him out by saying that he knew that he had killed Yankees like he had killed Manager Cho and he was the supplier of Gangnam Crystal. Gi-cheul is uncomfortable because Eui-jeong was with them. Jun-mo goes outside once Min-goo leaves and calls Do-hyung and tells them to take care of Min-goo as he was interfering in their business. He also tells him that Min-goo had seen Eui-jeong’s face, which was putting her life in danger.
Chang-sik calls Min-goo’s senior and asks him to ask Min-goo to take it easy. He also wanted timely updates on everything Min-goo was doing and working on. Gi-cheul, Eui-jeong, Jun-mo and Hae-ryeon go on a double date. Hae-ryeon says all the wrong things and realizes Eui-jeong does not really know anything about their business. Eui-jeong asks Jun-mo if he also likes Hae-ryeon just like she did. Jun-mo does not answer. Jun-mo and Hae-ryeon take a leave. They walk back, and Hae-ryeon reveals that she was going to live in Korea, and they buy apples.
Hae-ryeon explains that in China if you are given apples as a gift, it is a sign of good fortune. They go back to the hotel room, and Hae-ryeon tries to kiss Jun-mo, but he holds back and tells her that he intends to have a long-term relationship with her and that they need to take things slow. They just flirt with each other. Min-goo is still trying to find the Yankees, and Dodgers tell him all the drugs go through Meth Park.
He brings the man to the police station, and it turns out that this man is Jun-mo’s father. Chang-sik informs Do-hyung, and he rushes to meet Mr. Park. He asks him what the cops wanted, and he tells him they weren’t looking for him but Yankees, and he didn’t tell them anything. Do-hyung requests him to avoid Min-goo and, if he is forced to meet him, not say anything, especially not about Jun-mo and Eui-jeong.
Gi-cheul, Jong-ryul, Hee-sung, and Jun-mo get together for drinks to sort with the Chinese and Japanese. Hee-sing explains how the trade takes place and about the way they were going to split the profits. Gi-cheul also tells Jong-ryul that they need to get rid of Min-goo. Do-hyung finds Yankees’ girlfriend, Wendy, and asks her for a favor.
He promises to send her to a woman’s home once she gives her statement to Min-goo that Jong-ryul had killed Manager Cho. She does as she’s asked, and Do-hyung keeps his promise. Min-goo is happy and arrests Jong-ryul. Jong-ryul gets a message from Gi-cheul to remain silent, and he will hire the best lawyer in the country to help him. Do-hyung and Jun-mo had planned this scenario and had decided that Jong-ryul would not rat the gang out.
Jong-ryul is having fun by quoting his right to remain silent, which is driving Min-goo wild. He wants to bring Wendy in but was informed that she was taken to the prosecution. Meanwhile, Gi-cheul and the gang want to make big money, and Jun-mo decides to ask Hae-ryeon for a bigger shipment. Hae-ryeon agrees to 30 kilograms. The gang leaves on the boat while the cops keep a watch. Jun-mo and Gi-cheul are on the boat, and Jung-bae visits the office and says out loud that Eui-jeong would screw Gi-cheul over. He sits on Gi-cheul’s chair like he is the new boss.
The Worst of Evil (Season 1), Episode 11 Recap:
The episode begins with a flashback to two days before the deal. Min-goo is seen talking to his other cop friend, digging about Eui-jeong’s life. He gets to know Eui-jeong has a husband, and yet she is with Gi-cheul. Gi-cheul takes Eui-jeong to a huge house and tells her that he wishes to see both of them living together here. We also see Eui-jeong asking Jun-mo to stop as things are starting to get dangerous, and Jun-mo refuses and has a pit in his stomach, wondering if it has anything to do with Gi-cheul.
In the present, Jun-mo and Gi-cheul are on the boat to make the deal. They collect a sack full of drugs from the Chinese, and Jun-mo notices the name of the boat. Gi-cheul takes the bag inside the boat, and Jun-mo takes one empty sack in secret. Min-goo makes progress and gets to know Eui-jeong’s husband’s name. Gi-cheul and Jun-mo make it out of the shore, and Jun-mo uses the restroom and writes the name of the boat on the sack.
The next spot was to deliver it to the Japanese, and Gi-cheul and Jun-mo drove away. One of the cops goes to the restroom and finds the sack left behind by Jun-mo. Gi-cheul asks Yongdae to check on Jong-ryul. Gi-cheul tells Jun-mo to take over this business and asks him to promise to stop if things get dangerous. Jun-mo uses this chance to get to know that the Japanese trade is going to take place in port 7.
As they drive, they run into a truck, and both of them are unconscious. The truck was driven by Kyung-jin, who steals the drugs and runs away. The cops realize this and abort the mission. Gi-cheul wakes up, but Jun-mo is still unconscious. The car explodes, but luckily Gi-cheul and Jun-mo have left it. Hee-sung finds them and rescues them. Gi-cheul tells them that it was probably Jung-bae. The next day, Gi-cheul asks the boys to find both Jung-bae and Kyung-jin.
In his office, Gi-cheul opens his safe to find it empty, and only the watch Jung-bae wore was left in it. Jun-mo asks Do-hyung and Chang-sik to look for Jung-bae and gives the list of all the drug dealers in Gangnam. Gi-chuel is given only one week from Oyama to get the drugs back, or he will pay the price. Jun-mo talks to Hae-ryun and asks for some time, and she tells him that she trusts him. She also tells him where she grew up and tells him that drugs can be made again, but it’s difficult to find trustworthy people.
Hae-ryun’s father calls Kang-san and tells him that Hae-ryun had to take responsibility for what had happened. Jun-mo calls Do-hyung and informs him about the Chinese hideout, and they inform the Chinese police. They decide to stake out the place and wait for Korea and Japan to give a green signal before they make an arrest. Yong-dae picks up Jong-ryul, and Jong-ryul is annoyed because of all the things going wrong.
Yongdae tells Jong-ryul about the documents and sees Min-goo at the police station. Do-hyung, Eui-jeong, and Jun-mo are together, and Jun-mo has lost his patience and is angry with Do-hyung and Chang-sik for pushing him to this extent. Jun-mo leaves, and Eui-jeong mentions Min-goo looking for her husband. Do-hyung visits the station, and Yongdae sees him and wonders if he has seen him before.
Do-hyung tells Min-goo to mind his own business and leaves. Yongdae remembers he had seen him while collecting the document. Jong-ryul visits the office and threatens the receptionist to tell him the truth. He makes her call Do-hyung to the building. Meanwhile, he calls Jun-mo to the office, but Jun-mo is busy watching Jung-bae’s parents. Jun-mo arrives to find Do-hyung handcuffed and beaten, sitting on a chair.
On the other hand, Gi-cheul gets a call from one of the boys that Jung-bae is at the office. Gi-cheul rushes to find Jung-bae and Kyung-jin arrogantly sitting and reading all the important documents. Jun-mo at the records office is in a fix, wondering what to do. Jong-ryul tells him that he is Eui-jeong’s husband and is tailing them. He also tells him that he had found his ID, which said his name was Do-hyung.
He asks Jun-mo if he knows anything about it, and he denies it. Jong-ryul wanted to shoot him, but Jun-mo stopped him and told him it would be difficult as he was a cop. Jong-ryul takes out his knife and asks Jun-mo to stab him as he suspects him, even though he doesn’t want to. Jun-mo hesitates. In the last scene, the screen goes blank, and we hear a gunshot.
The Worst of Evil Episode 12 Recap:
The episode begins with Jong-ryul threatening to shoot Do-hyung if Jun-mo does not. He asks Jun-mo about his relationship with Do-hyung and eventually thinks Jun-mo is the mole in the gang. Jong-ryul pulls the trigger, and Jun-mo fights with Jong-ryul. Luckily, the cops arrive and take Jong-ryul away. Do-hyung tells Jun-mo to always remember he is a cop, and the ambulance takes Do-hyung away.
Jun-mo waits in the operation room, but Chang-sik comes to him with bad news about Jungbae betraying Gi-cheul. Jung-bae confronts Gi-cheul in the office about his plan to start a new life, leaving all his men to take care of themselves. He even asks him if he knows any of the boy’s names or their dreams. It turns out Hee-sung had joined forces with Jung-bae. We see a flashback to the time Jungbae, Hee-sung, and Kyung-jin meet Min-goo. They ask Min-goo to protect them since they have taken out Gi-cheul and the rival group. They also promise Min-goo that they will pay him well, show him the drugs and frame Gi-cheul for it.
While Jung-bae is confronting Gi-cheul, Min-goo arrives and arrests Gi-cheul. As he is taking him out, Eui-jeong sees him in handcuffs, and Gi-cheul’s heart breaks. Chang-sik informs Jun-mo about the situation, and he drives right into the car Min-goo and Gi-cheul are in. Meanwhile, the doctors could not save Do-hyung, and Chang-sik hid this information from Jun-mo. Jun-mo carries Gi-cheul out and takes him to their hideout.
Meanwhile, Min-goo is not able to find any criminal record on Jun-mo and is confused. The police started to arrest every drug dealer in Gangnam, tying Jung-bae’s hands. His only option was to find the Japanese dealer and sell it to them. Hae-ryeon’s bodyguard visits the office and talks to Jung-bae. He arranges a meeting with Hae-ryeon. Hae-ryeon meets them, agrees to make a deal, and gives them a location. On their way back, her bodyguard asks her why she had chosen to work with them, and in response, she calls Jun-mo and tells him she had done as he had asked her to.
Min-goo meets with Jung-bae, and they come up with a plan to get Jun-mo and Gi-cheul’s girlfriends to reach them both. Chang-sik and Eui-jeong attend Do-hyung’s funeral, and Chang-sik asks Eui-jeong not to inform Jun-mo about his death. Meanwhile, Detective Go visits the funeral and gets to know that Jun-mo is in an undercover investigation and decides to meet Hae-ryeon.
He meets Hae-ryeon and first tells her that Gi-cheul’s girlfriend was married but later reveals that it was Jun-mo. Hae-ryeon’s heart breaks hearing this. Min-goo asks her to join forces with him so he can arrest him for things he’s done as an undercover officer. Hae-ryeon asks for time, goes into the room, and calls Jun-mo. She asks him if all this time he being kind to her was genuine. She then asks him if she should stay in Korea or China. Jun-mo tells her not to stay in either one of the places and tells her until things settle down to stay in Hong Kong.
Seeing his genuineness, she takes the opportunity to kill Min-goo. Her bodyguard arrives and asks her to run away as a cop is waiting at the door and tells her to lay low and, once things settled, go to the man she trusts. She changes into a disguise and leaves the hotel. Jun-mo takes Gi-cheul to the site where the trade was to take place. Jung-bae and the group make the trade and are thrilled to see the cash. Meanwhile, Jun-mo asks Gi-cheul to stop things here, and he does not understand. Jun-mo pulls a handcuff out while pointing a gun at him and cuffs him to the steering wheel. Gi-cheul is teary-eyed, witnessing the betrayal.
Jun-mo confronts Jung-bae, and they are over-confident as they see Jun-mo alone. They ask him if he is a cop as they hear sirens. Jung-bae is hurt and tells him he could have been anything but a cop. Cops arrest them all and everyone at the union. The Chinese arrest Boss Oson’s factory and everyone there, including Professor Yoon. The Japanese arrest Oyama. Gi-cheul notices the key to the handcuffs and the car keys left behind by Jun-mo, and he escapes.
Jun-mo visits Do-hyung’s tombstone and pays his final respects. Eui-jeong and Jun-mo discuss if their life will be normal again. They arrive home and find Gi-cheul looking at their marriage photograph. He tells them that they look good together while carrying the pain of being betrayed by yet another person. Gi-cheul asks Eui-jeong if she was genuine, even for a moment, and she tells him that she was just trying to stop him from making any more mistakes.
The Worst of Evil (Season 1) Finale, Episode 12 Ending, Explained: Whose Betrayal Hurt Gi-cheul the Most?
Eui-jeong tells him she was fine living with the guilt of what she had done. Gi-cheul also asks Jun-mo why he had let him escape, and Jun-mo does not say anything. Gi-cheul tells them that he would give them another guilt to live with and points the gun to his own head. Jun-mo realizes that if Gi-cheul shoots himself, Eui-jeong won’t be able to live with it, so he shoots him.
Eui-jeong is desperately trying to keep him alive, and Jun-mo is about to call the ambulance but hesitates, seeing Eui-jeong’s concern towards Gi-cheul. The scene cuts to the felicitation award for Do-hyung, Jun-mo, and Eui-jeong. Jun-mo is distant with his wife and refuses to acknowledge Chang-sik. He salutes Do-hyung and visits Gi-cheul’s grave. He sees a bouquet of purple flowers and his chain. Jun-mo leaves the cigarette he was smoking and his ring on his grave.
The show ends with a successful operation, but Jun-mo is conflicted. He had found the love and respect he deserved in Gi-cheul that he did not get from his or Eui-jeong’s family. Eui-jeong also seems to have feelings for Gi-cheul, and that is playing on Jun-mo and her relationship, where nothing seems to be normal again. Gi-cheul probably was the one who was hurt the most as he was betrayed by every single person he trusted. The show has a closure from all the characters’ point of view, and it was a bittersweet end.
