Christopher Nolan is one of the biggest names in the film industry today, and his recent Oscar win for Oppenheimer makes his position even stronger in the industry. The filmmaker is celebrated for his incredible directorial vision, which he has proven time and again. In addition to his significant contributions to the cinematic world, Nolan’s profound impact on the lives of his collaborators further elevates his stature. Renowned actress Anne Hathaway, who collaborated with Nola for the 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar, claims that what Christopher Nolan did for her was nothing less than angelic.
Anne Hathaway credited Christopher Nolan with boosting her career during the tough time
During an interview with Vanity Fair, Anne Hathaway reflected on the time when she struggled to get a good role in the films. Not that Hathaway lacked talent at any point in her acting career, but her reputation in the industry started degrading due to online toxicity. That is when Christopher Nolan came into the picture and cast her in his sci-fi epic film Interstellar, which is today considered as one of the best films of Hathaway’s career.
Expressing her gratitude towards Nolan, Hathaway said, “A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online. I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of. I don’t know if he knew that he was backing me at the time, but it had that effect. And my career did not lose momentum the way it could have if he hadn’t backed me.”
In the 2014 film Interstellar, Anne Hathaway played Dr. Amelia Brand, a NASA scientist and astronaut. Brand joins Matthew McConaughey (Cooper) on a mission to space to find a habitable planet for humanity beyond our own solar system. Hathaway first collaborated with Nolan on his 2012 film Dark Knight Rises, in which she played Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman.
Nolan indeed played a significant part in bringing Hathaway’s career back on track. The actress is once again a well-established actress in the Hollywood industry. She will next be seen in a rom-com titled The Idea of You. In her upcoming film, the actress will portray a 40-year-old divorced mother from the LA suburbs who strikes up a romance with a 24-year-old British member of the world’s biggest boyband (played by Nicholas Galitzine) after a chance encounter at Coachella.
The Idea of You will premier on Prime Video on May 2.
