Directed by Adrian Panek, “Colors of Evil: Red” (Original title: Kolory zla. Czerwien) is a Polish investigative crime thriller on Netflix. Based on Malgorzata Oliwia Sobczak’s novel, it follows a whodunit mystery narrative after a young woman’s body is found on a beach in a horrifying manner. Considering the loose threads in the police investigation, a prosecutor goes on a quest to find the killer with the victim’s mother. The film stars Maja Ostaszewska, Jakub Gierszal, Zofia Jastrzebska, Andrzej Konopka, Przemyslaw Blurszcz, Wojciech Zielinski, Andrzej Zielinski, Jan Wieteska, Lukasz Pawlowski, and Wojciech Kalita.

What happens in ‘Colors of Evil: Red’?
“Colors of Evil: Red” follows the investigation into the murder of a young woman. Leopold Bilski (Jakub Gierszal), a newly appointed prosecutor from the DA’s office, visits the beach to investigate the deceased body of Monika Bogucka. After her autopsy, Doctor Tadeusz Dubiela inspects the details of her assault. He connects them to a similar case from over 15 years before. At the time, the officers arrested the woman’s then-fiancée, Adrian Jakubiak. Since Jakubiak recently got out of prison, the police believe he killed Monika. However, Jakubiak claims that Bilski’s senior officer framed him in the case of Zaneta’s murder even though he was innocent.
Bilski’s colleagues find Monika’s white t-shirt soaked in blood in Adrian’s barn. So, the prosecutors bring him to the station. Jakubiak keeps begging Bilski to look for the person Zaneta met at the Shipyard Club. But Bilski ignores his request. So, Jakubiak feels helpless and kills himself. Bilski’s senior officer, Ambroziak, believes they should close this murder case since the preparator has been found. But Bilski wants to be certain that Adrian killed both women to ensure there’s no other victim. So, he meets Zaneta’s father to speak about her past. There, he finds a photo of Zaneta with a local, wealthy businessman, Kazarski Lukasz, who owns the Shipyard Club.
Leopald’s Investigation
Bilski tries to find out if Monika is connected to the Shipyard Club in some way. Her mother, Judge Helena (Maja Ostaszewska), reveals that Monica worked at the club’s bar. Right after, Bilski visits the bar to learn more about Monika’s death. But the woman at the counter recognizes that he is a cop. So, she just hands over Lukasz’s lawyer’s visiting card. That’s when Bilski realizes that Monica’s father – Roman represents criminal Lukasz. Meanwhile, Helena follows Roman during his working house to learn that Lukasz is his client. At home, she finds Roman’s pendrive filled with details of financial transactions where Roman helped Lukasz.
Bilski visits Doctor Dubiela’s house to talk about Monika’s death. Dubiela reveals the similarities he found in Monika and Zaneta’s deformed bodies. Before he leaves, Tadeusz’s son, Mario, reveals that Monika was a bartender at the Shipyard club’s bar. Later, he finds details on other missing women connected to the club. After speaking with his colleagues, he learns about a case where Lukasz was accused of rape and murder of a woman. The details of her assault are quite similar to Monika and Zaneta’s assault. Soon after, Bilski finds a complaint filed against Lukasz. But despite that, his senior officer stops him from pursuing this case.
Monika’s Traumatic Past
Monika bagged a job at the Shipyard Club’s bar. Besides working as a bartender, she also sold coke on the side. After a conversation with her, Lukasz got obsessed with her. Therefore, he brought her to his house and started treating her as if she were his property. During that visit, he assaulted one of his business associates and brutally mutilated him. Soon after, Lukasz raped Monika and tried to choke her to death.
Subsequently, she met Bilski’s colleague, Spider, to file a complaint against Lukasz. However, instead of helping her, he scared her of the repercussions of speaking against Lukasz. Spider drove Monika to Lukasz’s house, where he assaulted her. Soon after, she opened up to her father about what Lukasz did to her. So, Roman hoped to hide her somewhere far away. Unfortunately, before he could do that, she got murdered.
Colors of Evil: Red (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
Helena visits the Shipyard Club’s bar to ask the staff about Monika. But they pretend that they don’t know anyone by that name. Then, a sex worker working at the bar warns Helena that the bartender has spiked her drink. She advises Helena to run out of the bathroom window. Helena manages to escape and drives her car to the police station. After looking into some DNA evidence, Bilski learns about Waldemar Mila, who worked with Monika at the bar. He follows Waldemar’s sister to a location and meets Waldemar inside the building. But before Bilski can question Waldemar, Spider shoots him dead.
Ambroziak notices Bilski has been working against his orders. So, he threatens Bliski with a transfer order. Helena confronts Roman about his work for Lukasz and warns him that he will be arrested for them. Then, she hands over Roman’s pendrive to Bliski to expose Lukasz’s illegal businesses and financial transactions. So, the police arrest Lukasz. However, Lukasz doesn’t accept blame for Monika’s death. The DNA evidence also can’t connect Lukasz to her murder. On the other hand, Spider gets killed after the police find him connected to Lukasz’s crimes.
Who was behind Monica’s devastating Murder?
After Lukasz’s arrest for multiple counts of murder, Bliski believes that he was also responsible for Monica’s horrifying death. However, he soon recalls seeing Monika’s ring on Romeo’s table back when he came to meet Tadeusz. So, he drives back to the town to expose the truth. Meanwhile, Helena notices Monika’s ring in Tadeusz’s house. Tadeusz realizes that Helena has realized the truth behind Monica’s death. Therefore, he drugs Helena and locks her in his storage room. Soon after, she regains consciousness and rescues herself. Finally, Tadeusz confesses the truth that Romeo murdered Monica.
A few nights ago, Romeo brought Monica home with him. Even though Monica was traumatized by Lukasz’s constant torture, Romeo forced himself onto her. Since she refused to have sex with him, he bumped her head repeatedly, which led to her death. Tadeusz realized that Romeo killed Monica but didn’t want him to rot in prison. So, he decided to make Jakubiak the scapegoat because he knew Jakubiak was just getting out of prison. Since Tadeusz had done the autopsy on Zaneta, he mutilated Monica’s body similarly to implicate Jakubiak for her murder as well.
