Bad Monkey Episode 5 brings it on with a lot of energy; however, it still feels like a total drag. The characters are all over the place, and nothing concrete builds up. While Yancy and Rosa’s relationship evolves, Nick and Eve are trying their best to leave their life behind for a new beginning. The latest episode of Bad Monkey works as a filler – a tired build-up to the story, focusing more on the side characters that eventually connect the dots of ‘how to catch the killer.’

Do Yancy and Rosa Successfully Escape Officer Mendez’s Pursuit?
Episode 5 of Bad Monkey picks up right after Nick hits Yancy on the head and drags him off his porch into the sea, making it look like an accidental drowning. The next day, while Eve rejoices about getting Yancy out of their lives, Nick cannot find his phone anywhere. It turns out that Yancy is an excellent swimmer, and after struggling for a while, he was able to come out of the sea and manages to get inside that yellow house that still stands unsold due to all his interference. It is clear that Yancy disapproves of the yellow house and its damage to the surroundings, so he has an ongoing beef with the realtor.
When Yancy successfully shoos off the latest prospects for the property, he finds Nick’s missing phone with Eve’s number calling it. Without wasting time, he shows up at Rosa’s workplace, where she fixes him again while learning Yancy’s theory about Nick and Christopher being the same person. As he excuses himself for a quick washroom break, Officer Mendez comes looking for him. He threatens Rosa for helping Yancy, who is now the prime suspect in the killing of Dr. Israel O’Peele.
Rosa somehow manages to dodge Mendez’s interrogation and decides to help Yancy leave the hospital without anyone noticing. To get out safely, Yancy gets inside a body bag, pretending to be a dead body, as Rosa takes him out on the stretcher. However, before they can escape, Mendez joins her in the lift, trying to flirt with her. When Mendez finds Rosa’s movement suspicious, he tries to open the body bag but gets knocked down by Yancy as they flee the scene. After deciding that Rosa will drive them to her parents’ house, Yancy calls Rogelio with the latest updates.
Can Neville Secure the Evidence Against Nick Before It’s Too Late?
On the other hand, Egg is looking for Neville as he has evidence against Nick. He meets Dragon Queen, a.k.a. Gracie, who finds Egg interesting and a possible man she can hang out with, considering her profession needs her to be a certain way. However, she despises him for working with a person who has been quite a problem for the inhabitants of the Island. Determined to find Neville somehow, Egg reaches Dawnie’s place, who denies having seen Neville. However, Neville has been hiding at Dawnie’s place all this time, looking at the files on the pen drive he found at Christopher’s (Nick’s) office.
Neville wants to take this pen drive to a commanding officer who can help him get rid of Christopher. Dawnie suggests he talk to Tanny (Kris Marshall), whom he briefly dated and never called back. Tanny works as an assistant to a senior officer, so Dawnie feels she can be of some help. Neville calls her reluctantly, and she agrees to set up a meeting with her boss after Neville apologizes to her.
We also get an update on Bonnie, who has been taking shelter at a local resort a little away from the Keys. However, when Clifford (Bonnie’s husband) discontinues her cards after speaking to Detective Johnna Russell, who has been looking for her, Bonnie runs from the scene, realizing her past is quickly catching up. Unable to find a safe spot, she reaches Yancy’s place only to find him nowhere, and the key to the house is missing. Desperate, she breaks into Yancy’s place, quickly settling in, knowing that she will be safe there for a while.
Will Yancy and Rosa’s Graveyard Gamble Lead to Their Capture?
Rosa introduces Yancy to everyone at her parent’s house, and her mother immediately disapproves of her daughter’s possible love interest. After dinner, Rosa knocks at Yancy’s door, hoping to get some romantic action, but when she doesn’t see him there, she inquires about it with her mother. She then learns that her brother wasn’t successful in helping Yancy unlock Nick’s phone because it is fingerprint-locked. Rosa quickly realizes where Yancy could possibly be, considering there is no other place he can go.
Rightly so, Rosa finds Yancy at the graveyard, digging up Nick’s ‘fake’ grave to unlock the phone using the finger from the buried hand. However, their successful venture takes a quick turn when the graveyard caretaker calls Miami police. The two hide again, and Yancy suggests Rosa to leave him as he is taking her down with him. On the other hand, Rosa shuts him up with a kiss and tells him that she can take care of herself without him explaining things to her.
Gracie meets her old-time girlfriend, who makes fun of her for being this ‘black magic’ savior. As the two women hang out at a remote beach on the island, where no one ever goes, the two friends catch up on their lives. Gracie wants to meet a man who is not fearful of her because of what she does professionally. She mentions Egg to her friend but is warned not to let her intrusive thoughts win and to be careful with whom she settles down. This is when they find a boat (Neville’s) nearby, and with the hope of helping someone in need, they push the boat away into the sea.
Will Neville and Dawnie Escape Egg’s Pursuit?
We then see Dawnie driving Neville to meet Tanny. He apologizes again, and then, while Tanny takes him to meet her boss, she takes the pen drive from Neville, saying her boss is not equipped with tech things. Before Neville can realize what’s happening, Tanny throws the pen drive towards Egg, who looks eager to take Neville down for causing him trouble. Neville jumps off the building and runs for it, shouting at Dawnie to drive away. However, the two can barely get far when Egg pursues them, chasing them with his truck. As Dawnie and Neville fear being caught by Egg, Neville spots his boat at the corner of a seashore. They quickly jump into the boat and float away as Egg tries to approach them.
Meanwhile, Nick learns from the TV news that Yancy is not dead and, in fact, has run away after killing O’Peele. Nick fears that if Eve learns anything about Yancy now, he will be in trouble, so he switches the TV off and distracts her by packing their stuff. Later, Eve and Nick drop by Caitlin’s place. Eve knows that Caitlin is now a threat to their happy life, and she threatens Caitlin, warning that if she opens her mouth about her father not being dead to anyone else, Eve knows how to take care of her. Caitlin, who had already shared the news with her fiancé, doesn’t like Eve talking to her like that and points this out to her father, who, pretty evidently taking orders from his wife, tries to explain to Caitlin how Eve’s actions are for everyone’s benefit. Caitlin disapproves of this and asks her father and his wife to leave the house.

Will Yancy’s Last-Minute Call to Eve Derail Nick and Eve’s Escape Plan?
The following day, Sonny summons Rogelio to inquire about Yancy’s whereabouts. Sonny warns Rogelio that if he is found helping Yancy in any shape or form, he will have to kiss his public duty pension goodbye, and his life as part of a gay couple will be in serious trouble. On the other hand, Rosa and Yancy look at Nick’s phone to be able to pin him down red-handed. This is when a text from Claspers drops on Nick’s phone, suggesting that Nick and Claspers have a rendezvous at 7:30 at an airport. While Yancy yaps about many theories, Rosa takes the phone and simply texts, asking about coffee places nearby. This is how they track down Claspers’ location and decide to catch Nick and Eve, who are most likely planning on flying out of town.
We then see Eve and Nick arriving at the hangar where private jets usually fly out. They meet Claspers, who had been waiting for his coffee, assuming he was talking to Nick. While Nick quickly understands the situation, he distracts everyone with the boarding. As Eve and Nick settle down in the plane, ready to fly out, Yancy and Rosa arrive; however, the closed gate causes Yancy to jump over the fence and run behind the moving plane.
Nick is visibly anxious and hopes Eve doesn’t see Yancy, so he opens a champagne bottle, pretending to enjoy the celebratory moment of their new beginning. As Eve sips from her glass, she gets a call from Nick’s phone. When she answers it, Yancy, on the other hand, warns her that they have been exposed and that the Miami Police Department will be there to welcome them at their destination. Eve is not happy with Nick’s incompetence in killing Yancy, and as the two fly out, Yancy watches their plane with a sense of pride that he has successfully cracked the case.
Who is Cody?
The final moment of Bad Monkey, Episode 5, shows Bonnie enjoying her quiet time at Yancy’s place. However, she notices a car approaching the property. As she looks out for the car, a person enters the house, shocking Bonnie, who is entirely off guard. It turns out that the student with whom she had sex at the university where she was teaching has followed her all this time. The ending of Episode 5 of Bad Monkey shows Bonnie uttering ‘Cody’ in fear that with his presence, everything will be finished for her, and this could possibly land her in jail, which she has been avoiding all this time.
The next episode will most likely explore Bonnie’s story, with Cody entering the picture. Will Detective Russell finally catch her? Also, now that Yancy, along with Rosa, has cracked the case, will things get better or worse for them? Is Caitlin going to be safe after being threatened by her stepmother, who is very capable of eliminating any possible damage to her illusionary perfect life?
