Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 19 “Morality Is Something You Find When You’re Lost” Recap:

The episode opens with Jolenta and Schmidt exchanging pleasantries. Jolenta does not know Draka but is unbothered; Jolenta is more interested in the book. Sadly, Draka has burned the book, and Jolenta needs to hear its contents. Elsewhere, Bishop Damian and inquisitor Asch disagree on how to treat heretics. Like most inquisitors, Asch resorts to torture, but Bishop Damian wants Asch to lead heretics towards God in a kind manner. However, Asch has tried it but it does not work on heretics. As a reminder, Asch tells Damian that 200 years ago, dedicated monks attempted to fix the heretic’s errors, but the heretics responded by stone pelting. Around the same time, heretics also killed an envoy with the emperor in it.

Will Nowak help Asch?

In response, Damian asks Asch to remember history, where a sorcerer became an Emperor. Back then, the Church treated heretics with moderation, and the method worked. So, Asch says there is a question about the Church’s orthodoxy these days. Hence, it is necessary to stop heretics from having their way. Asch tells Damian that clergymen have died as the Heretic Liberation Front attacked them and stole a book. With the mention of Potocki, Damian remembers that to be his case. To find the heretics, they need someone who is well-read in cosmology. So Damian asks Asch to see a former inquisitor. In a bar somewhere, an inquisitor is getting drunk.

At that time, Asch introduces himself to the inquisitor. This inquisitor is none other than Nowak. When Asch asks for help, Nowak is disinterested in helping Damian or Asch. However, Nowak gets angry when Asch mentions that a book was stolen and it was Nowak’s case. Once Asch leaves, Nowak cannot understand why his past has returned to torment him. After a while, Nowak agrees to help Asch and asks if the inquisitors have narrowed down the culprit. Asch updates Nowak that they think it is the Heretic Liberation Front. However, nobody knows who the leader is except that she is a woman who has a tooth missing.

Why does Draka think Jolenta is authoritative like the Church?

Since Nowak is on board, Asch cannot understand the Heretic Liberation Front’s goal of stealing a heliocentricism book. Nowak gives Asch a new perspective by saying the group’s goal is to change people’s minds by publishing the book. Immediately, Nowak asks Asch to find everyone who has sold the new movable type and anyone who has purchased Winepress recently. This will give them a lead in finding the leader. Meanwhile, Jolenta questions Draka about her reasons for burning the book. Since Draka only has one goal, i.e., to make money, Draka expresses the same to Jolenta. Now, Jolenta tells Draka that her old friend wrote the book. Hence, Jolenta does not want Draka to treat the book as a mere money-maker.

After a while, Jolenta takes Draka out and shows her Saturn in the sky. Jolenta tells Draka that it takes 30 years for Saturn to complete a cycle as it is furthest from the sun. The book contained heliocentricism and the greatness of God. The reason Jolenta is saying all this to Draka is to express the significance of the book and to let Draka know what inspires Jolenta. Since Jolenta belittles Draka for wanting to make money, Draka thinks Jolenta’s actions are not noble either. The reason is that Jolenta has killed people, freed heretics, and disrupted the social order. However, Jolenta is reclaiming what the Church took away from her. When Jolenta says the Church should be overthrown for its authority, Draka points out that Jolenta is doing the same thing.

Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 19 “Morality Is Something You Find When You’re Lost” Ending Explained:

Jolenta’s Dilemma: Conviction, Sacrifice, and the Search for Truth

Jolenta does not think she is doing the same thing as the Church and is not stubborn about her ideology either. Outside, Frei wonders if this is their last destination, so Schmidt says they have arrived to retrieve the typefaces, and their next stop will be where they will begin mass-producing the book. Before starting to write the book, Jolenta tells Draka that she cannot give Draka any profits as Jolenta does not intend to make money out of this mission. Instead, Jolenta can let Draka borrow the movable type, and Draka needs to find something else to mass-produce to make money.

The deal seems reasonable to Draka. Once Jolenta finishes writing everything Draka recites, she is impressed. Before saying goodbye to each other, Jolenta asks Draka why money is so important to her. So Draka says it is her conviction. As advice, Jolenta asks Draka to be careful with convictions. If not, Draka will end up like Jolenta. Although conviction is Jolenta’s strength, it is also Jolenta’s weakness. Hearing this, Draka is confused as it becomes difficult to lead a life without convictions, and one only wanders. So Jolenta asks Draka to wander as that is where Draka can find what is right.

Will Jolenta’s Truth Prevail or Perish?

The story takes a compelling turn as Nowak and Jolenta push forward in pursuit of their respective goals. However, their paths are destined to collide, setting the stage for a potential tragedy. Nowak’s convictions will face their greatest test yet if he discovers that Jolenta is, in fact, the leader of the Heretic Liberation Front. When that moment comes, will he have the resolve to punish her?

Meanwhile, Jolenta is prepared to publish Oczy’s work, but with Asch already closing in on those using the new printing technology, the question remains—will her plan unfold without disruption? Only a select few—Jolenta, Frei, and Schmidt—know where the book will be mass-produced. Yet, even if something happens to Jolenta, the knowledge won’t be lost. She has entrusted Draka with the movable type, and he remembers the book’s contents by heart.

Will the world finally learn the truth of heliocentrism? Only time will tell.
