Netflix’s Man on Fire (2026) brings back a well-known revenge story in a new way by turning A. J. Quinnell’s novel into a series. This version builds on the 2004 film but takes a darker and more detailed look at John Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary trying to live a normal life after a troubled past. When a mission in Brazil goes wrong and a deadly explosion changes everything, Creasy is pulled back into danger. Now, his focus is clear. He must protect a young girl named Poe while also trying to uncover the truth behind a larger and more dangerous conspiracy.
In this article, I will break down the entire plot line of the series, currently streaming on Netflix. Please note that there are major spoilers throughout the article.
Man on Fire (2026) Episode 1 Recap:
What is ‘Man on Fire’ on Netflix about?
The episode introduces us to John Creasy, leading a private CIA security mission in Mexico City. The situation quickly turns violent when men dressed in black enter the building and kill his entire team. Creasy is the only one who survives. The story then jumps four years ahead. Creasy wakes up from a nightmare in his apartment. He removes a black covering from his head, similar to what was used on his teammates before they were killed. He is dealing with PTSD and is haunted by constant flashbacks. His life has become routine and empty, as he works at a distribution center, drinks heavily, and takes medication to cope with anxiety and insomnia. At one point, Creasy tries to end his life by crashing his car into a wall, but he survives. In the hospital, he meets his old Special Forces friend Paul Rayburn, who offers him a job in Rio de Janeiro. Creasy is hesitant at first but eventually agrees.
In Brazil, Rayburn introduces him to his family and explains that they are working to stop a possible terrorist attack before an election. Creasy struggles during an evaluation but is still hired. Later that night, Rayburn is killed when his condo explodes in a planned attack. His daughter Poe survives because she was outside. Creasy rushes to the scene and later learns that a group called the FRP has claimed responsibility. Poe is too scared to speak about what she saw. Creasy promises to protect her and demands safe arrangements before she shares anything. He refuses to leave until those responsible are dead. The episode ends with Creasy preparing himself, showing he is ready to face what comes next.
Man on Fire (2026) Episode 2 Recap:
How does Poe identify the attackers?
The episode begins with Poe feeling nervous about the interview. Creasy tells her to push her emotions aside so they can think clearly about the mystery behind her family’s murder. At the same time, he does not want her to suffer any more than she already has. As Soares’ men take Creasy and Poe toward the US embassy, Osmar’s men suddenly attack. Creasy quickly orders a detour to the nearest military base and hangar, which forces the attackers to fall back. This makes Creasy believe that someone inside the system is leaking information. Because of this, he refuses to let Soares or anyone else question Poe. Soares is unsure at first but eventually agrees. Creasy uses his own method and asks Poe to relive her memories, and somehow it works. She remembers two white vans moving toward the complex and also recalls seeing the biker’s face.
However, the memory overwhelms her, and she breaks down. Creasy is surprised but gives her space. Soares is impressed and decides to work with Creasy, though he worries that having a purpose again might bring out a darker side of him. While Soares leaves to speak with the president, a private jet is prepared to send Poe to the USA. She wants to stay, but Creasy convinces her to leave. Before they can go, Osmar’s men attack again. Creasy captures one of them, Tiago, and escapes with Poe. Later, he asks Melo for help, promising legal relocation in return. He also contacts his former CIA boss, Tappen, who agrees to help. They hide in a favela, where Poe and Melo’s daughter bond. During interrogation, Tiago reveals that Osmar hired his gang. By the end, Creasy forms a plan to reach Osmar, but he needs Poe’s help.
Man on Fire (2026) Episode 3 Recap:
Why does Vico threaten Poe?
The episode opens with Melo taking photos of Poe and Creasy as they pretend to be dead, and she looks clearly disturbed by it. Poe asks about the plan, but Creasy only tells her that Tappen has arranged an extraction team to take her out of the country by midnight. Poe does not want to be left behind while Creasy continues his mission, but he promises she will be safe with Melo. Creasy then places a small remote bomb under Tiago’s skin to make sure he does not betray them. Tiago says he had no choice in becoming a gang member, while Creasy chose violence without arguing further. Melo needs to return to her daughter, so she asks her cousin Beto to watch Poe. Beto is caught up in a gang conflict and instead assigns his younger brother, Livro, who has no experience.
Livro does not like violence, and Beto pushes him to toughen up. Meanwhile, Livro and Poe bond over their shared loneliness and being orphans. Creasy receives money from a CIA contact, who also reveals that the FRP is trying to influence the election and that their leader, Ferraz, is in jail. Using the fake photos, Tiago contacts Osmar, but things go wrong when Creasy forces him into a warehouse. Tiago attacks, and Creasy kills him before escaping. Meanwhile, Poe and Livro step out briefly and talk about books and chess. They run into Vico, who threatens Poe with a knife but claims he is testing Livro. Later, Poe calls Creasy in fear, but he hangs up when Osmar contacts him. Creasy uses the burner phone to lure Osmar, while Melo is forced at gunpoint to lead Osmar’s men to Poe. At the same time, Creasy secretly gets into Osmar’s car. As midnight nears, Poe panics, but Livro promises he will not leave her. The ending of the episode shows Creasy appearing before Osmar’s young son.
Man on Fire (2026) Episode 4 Recap:
Why does Gray Beard capture Poe?
We then see an extraction team waiting for Poe and Creasy, but the two never arrive. Creasy instead traps Osmar, whose real name is Gabriel, along with his wife and son, Mateus, inside a panic room. He ties them up and makes a deal. He says Osmar is already a dead man, but he will spare his family if he reveals everything about the FRP and the bombing. Back in the favela, Melo uses her car blinkers to warn her people that she is being held at gunpoint by Osmar’s men. The gang quickly prepares to fight. Poe becomes confused and thinks the favela is targeting her, so she runs away while Livro tries to stop her. Vico takes charge and insists he is handling Beto’s assignment. A shootout begins, and one thug is killed while another, known as Gray Beard, escapes. He soon captures Poe and Livro. During the interrogation, Osmar cooperates, and Creasy uploads important data to his CIA contact. Osmar claims he does not know the biker’s identity but admits someone planned to track Poe in the USA.

When Gray Beard calls and demands a hostage exchange, Poe’s voice triggers painful memories for Creasy, and he briefly loses control. Meanwhile, Vico tries to rescue Livro but accidentally shoots him in the arm. Creasy recovers in time to stop Mateus from escaping. The situation grows tense as both sides prepare for a hostage swap. Melo finally reaches Creasy, and they agree to the exchange. The swap takes place in the mountains, with both sides aiming their weapons. It is a tense moment, but the exchange is successful. Afterwards, Beto scolds Livro, and Poe blames Creasy for leaving her. He apologises, but the danger is not over. They regroup and move to another safehouse after picking up Melo’s daughter, Mariana. News reports claim the attackers have been dealt with, and Osmar is said to be dead. Tappen later reveals he plans to come to Rio, but secretly says he will kill both Creasy and Poe.
Man on Fire (2026) Episode 5 Recap:
Why does Beto attack Livro?
The episode begins with Creasy calling Ivan to arrange a safe place in Portugal for Poe, Melo, and Marina, since the USA is no longer safe. He also asks a contact to help him get inside a prison so he can confront Ferraz. To avoid being tracked, Creasy creates a false trail by checking into multiple hotels before settling in a quiet one, while Tappen follows the wrong path. Marina struggles with the idea of leaving her home, but Melo comforts her. Poe once again pleads with Creasy not to leave her, saying he is the only person she has, but he refuses to change his plan. Melo also tries to convince him, and when he still refuses, she offers to take care of Poe herself. Creasy pays Duda’s men, and tensions rise within the group. Duda blames Beto for the risky job and gives part of his share to Vico. Angry, Beto takes it out on Livro and beats him. Melo is shocked and tries to stop it, while Vico refuses the money.
Melo later learns that many people treat Livro badly for being different. Tappen manages to contact Creasy and tries to manipulate him, but Creasy hangs up. However, Tappen tracks his location. Melo brings Vico and Livro to the safehouse, asking Creasy to help Livro escape as well. In return, Vico promises to help Creasy enter and leave the prison. That night, Poe opens up about her regrets, and they spend time together cooking, talking, and sharing stories about Rayburn. Creasy finally sleeps peacefully. The next day, Tappen searches nearby hotels while Creasy and the others leave just in time. Poe briefly returns for her lucky coin but escapes unnoticed. The group later prepares to leave for Portugal, while Creasy moves ahead with his plan. Disguised as a guard, he enters the prison, but just as he gets close to Ferraz, alarms suddenly go off, leaving him confused.
Man on Fire (2026) Episode 6 Recap:
What happens to Ferraz?
The episode begins with Creasy managing to get inside the prison and finally coming face-to-face with Ferraz. The face-off between the two finally puts the pieces together as Creasy finds out what really happened behind the bombing, thus changing everything so far. It turns out that President Carmo and his own team are responsible. He planned the attack to wipe out his political rivals, even though it meant putting innocent lives at risk, and then shifted the blame onto Ferraz and the FRP. Since Ferraz was already in prison, Soares forced him to write fake emails that made it look like Creasy was involved. Once those emails were released, the story made Creasy look like a hidden partner in the attack. But Carmo and Soares were not working alone. They had help from Henry Tappen, a CIA officer who once worked with Creasy. Tappen had been quietly working with them all along.
The bombing was first meant for a different building, but when Paul brought Creasy into the security team, Tappen got worried. He pushed Soares to change the target to Paul’s building instead. He was also the biker seen that night, and Poe later confirms that it was him. Ferraz had already expected Creasy to come looking for answers. He knew he would not make it out alive, but he wanted to protect his family. So he told Creasy that he had recordings proving Carmo’s role and said he would share them only if he could make one phone call to help his family. Once Poe confirms Tappen’s identity, Creasy believes him and allows the call. But as they try to escape, Ferraz admits the truth. There are no recordings. He made it up just to save his family. In the end, he is taken back, tortured, and killed by Soares, who wants to make sure the truth never comes out. The episode ends with Creasy meeting with Poe at the rendezvous point along with the others.
Man on Fire (2026) Episode 7 Recap:
The finale episode of Man on Fire (2026) begins with Creasy, Melo, and Ivan meeting inside an empty warehouse as they plan their next move against Carmo, Soares, and Tappen. Creasy believes that Tappen has protected himself by setting up a dead man’s switch. He thinks Tappen has secretly recorded his conversations with Carmo and Soares about their crimes, and that these recordings will be released if anything happens to him. Because of this, Creasy decides that the only way to bring the truth out is by killing Tappen and triggering that switch.
Man on Fire (2026) Ending Explained:
What happens to Creasy and Poe in the end?
To make this happen, they come up with a careful plan. They prepare a tape and hide it inside a safe deposit box. The tape is set up with a poison that is not meant to kill anyone but is strong enough to create panic and force a reaction. After that, they stage a fake robbery at Ivan’s father’s condo to draw attention. As part of the plan, Vico allows himself to be captured on purpose. Once he is taken in, he tells Soares and Tappen that the safe deposit box holds a recording of a conversation between Ferraz and Carmo, leading them straight into the trap. Believing the story is true, Tappen and Soares take the bait without much doubt. They find the tape and decide to play it, expecting to hear something important. But the moment they do, they realize too late that it is a trap. The poison inside the setup affects them, and they are quickly rushed to a hospital for treatment. This is exactly where Creasy has been waiting for them.
At the hospital, Poe helps by distracting security so Creasy can get close to Tappen without being stopped. Soon, a violent fight breaks out between Creasy and Tappen. Even though the police get involved and try to interfere, Creasy manages to stab Tappen and leaves him badly injured. At the same time, Poe and the rest of the group are caught in a gunfight with the police in another part of the hospital. They begin to run out of options, but Creasy steps in. He creates an explosion to clear a path and manages to reach them, even after getting shot in the arm.
Will ‘Man on Fire’ have a season 2?
As they try to escape, Soares suddenly takes Poe hostage. The situation becomes tense, but Creasy quietly signals Poe to fight back using what he taught her. She reacts quickly, and in the struggle, Soares ends up shooting Creasy. Even then, Creasy fights back and kills Soares. Later on, news reports confirm that Carmo has been arrested, and Creasy’s name has been cleared. Melo decides to stay in Brazil with her daughter. Vico and Livro are now working with Ivan. In the United States, Poe speaks at her family’s funeral. The ending of Man on Fire (2026) shows that after everything that has happened, Creasy is given a new mission by the CIA that connects back to his past in Mexico City. He agrees to take a look at it, setting up a new direction for the story and hinting at a possible season 2.
