Single Drunk Female (Season 2), Episodes 1 & 2: The first season of ‘Single Drunk Female’ follows Samantha Fink’s initial stages of sobriety. After an embarrassing breakdown at her workplace, she was forced to move back to her family home with her single mother, Carol. During this time, she took steps toward being a responsible adult and handling the grief of her late father. In her support group, she bonded well with Olivia, who became her sponsor and her companion to talk with.
However, Sam’s friendship with James took an unpleasant turn since he broke his sobriety and, thus, their relationship. On the other hand, Brit Montclair, who married Sam’s ex-boyfriend Joel regretted the decision. She wanted to pursue her aspirations and move out if required, whereas Sam did not want to leave their town. So, the episode ended with both their relationships falling apart.
Now the new season takes place about six months after that wedding ceremony. Sam has a new job, which she genuinely loves. She celebrates her birthday party and deals with some surprising changes in her work while going past her struggles with sobriety.
Single Drunk Female (Season 2), Episodes 1 & 2 Recap:
Episode 1: Promotion
Samantha (Sofia Black-D’Elia), now 29, is invited to prison by Gail (Madison Shepard) to motivate female prisoners through her story. The women are not much interested in what she says. Still, Sam passionately keeps talking about her journey of sobriety to the point Gail has to stop her. It is her 549 day of sobriety, and she works as a writer at a place in Boston.
The moment she enters her office, she learns about her promotion due to her dedicated work. Her manager, Alex (Ricky Velez), congratulates her and gives her this big news. Since it is her birthday, Sam invites him to the party at her house. He refuses to come considering how their co-workers will look at it. Sam understands his concern and does not pressure him further. Besides, even if her promotion desk is next to a washroom door, she is happy that she is now doing better than before.
Back in her support group, Sam meets Olivia (Rebecca Henderson), who helps her with her issues with adulting. Suddenly, James (Garrick Bernard) walks in and returns the moment he sees Sam. After their last catch-up during Brit’s wedding, Sam ghosted him. He is miserable because of it. Sam says that it was hard for her as well since she did not want to fall into the pattern of alcoholism again. Sam regrets his mistake and, at last, agrees to come inside.
Brit (Sasha Compére) comes to Felicia’s (Lily Mae Harrington) salon and shows her the diary she has decided to gift Sam. Felicia brings a diary, too, since she cannot gift Sam anything with alcohol in it. Brit talks about her anxiety about facing her ex-husband, Joel (Charlie Hall), at the party.
Meanwhile, Joel goes to Sam’s house and speaks about his nervousness to Carol (Ally Sheedy). She gives her a comfort book to take him out of that rabbit hole. Carol then tells Joel that it is okay to be upset about the divorce. She tries to calm him and also make him ready to attend Sam’s party to give his gift himself. Carol’s boyfriend, Bob (Ian Gomez) walks in and offers his service for Joel’s mental and physical well-being.
Later at night, Sam tells Carol and Bob not to leave home since she does not want anyone to speak with Carol about her. Carol guilt-trips her with the story of Sam’s birth. But Sam does not budge from that emotional manipulation. She goes out and finds Felicia, joined by Peter (Ben Thompson). Brit and Joel bump into each other and have an awkward chat. He leaves the ongoing conversation the moment he sees her.
Later, Sam’s co-worker, Jeff (Paul Kim), tells her that Alex has also come to the party, and he saw her speaking with her mother. She finds it odd since he mentions how he did not want to ruin their professional relationship. She soon finds him to know that he just got fired and is being replaced by a boomer from New York.
In the middle of that conversation, she notices James and goes to speak with him. He takes it as her still being interested and tries to smooch her. However, she does not want to move on as if nothing happened. So, she clears the air about how hurt she was due to his actions. She is okay being friends and nothing more. He does not want that and so leaves the party right away. Hurt by his words, Sam goes into a shell and returns to her room. Olivia follows her to tell her that she should not let such bad stuff define her. She takes her out to the party.
Brit joins Joel and tries to build a friendly relationship with him. But he cannot bear the pain of her leaving him. So, he leaves the conversation, goes to an installed photo booth, and starts crying. He is also upset about how she is not taking the blame for what happened and making her parents feel like everything is normal between them. By then, Sam returns to the party to see Felicia’s performance. Brit notices photos of Joel crying in the photo booth. Alex asks Sam out on a date, and she agrees. Olivia’s partner, Stephanie, asks whether she told her important news to her.
Episode 2: Grant Me Serenity…
Joel comes to meet Brit at her work and shares the Amazon parcels that she ordered at his address. He is angry that she is still using him for such things and tells her to get them shipped to her new address henceforth. Also, her parents keep texting him as if everything is normal. She says that she hasn’t told them that she and Joel have separated. There’s a reason for it. She does not want them to know because of their traditional values and damage their relationship. But she does not see how it makes Joel feel.
Later, Felicia and Sam meet Brit to eat some pancakes. Peter walks in and gets congratulated for his recent deal’s success. When he leaves, Sam and Brit suggest to Felicia that she should gift him something for something. She can only come up with something by her usual word association trick. Later at her salon, she asks her co-worker, who suggests gifting him some sex coupons to spice up their relationship. Felicia, however, thinks that she can add a photo of his butt on a mug and gift it to him.
The next day, Sam walks into her office with a bonsai plant to gift her new boomer boss. When she enters, she finds it is none other than her old boss from New York – Nathaniel (Jon Glaser). He sees her and tells everyone that they used to work together. Then he starts with some details that Sam had worked hard to let go of. Since he makes her revisit them, she panics and leaves the job.
Sam keeps calling Olivia, who cannot pick up her calls at the time. However, upon meeting, Olivia says that Sam should have taken more time to think about her decision. Sam said that she did it to protect her sobriety. But Olivia says that she should reason it to act impulsively. She tells Sam how she always has more choices than what she can think at the moment. Later, Sam tells Carol about it, who suggests she can now look for a job at the Boston Globe, where she always wanted Sam to work. However, Sam does not want that.
So, later, Sam goes to ask Felicia for a job to work at her place, but she rejects her right away. She rather asks why she left her dream job, which she was passionate about. It makes Sam think and go to Nathaniel to ask for her job back. He says that she can’t work there anymore and scares her. While she starts crying, he says that he was only joking. So, she gets her job back. Besides, Nathaniel tells all the staff that now the water is under the bridge with respect to Sam and his past issues.
Joel and Brit later meet for a meal, and Brit’s parents give her a surprise. Turns out, Joel invited them so that Brit could come clean to them – knowing she wouldn’t tell them otherwise. So, she gets upset and walks out. Joel follows her and says how she blindsided him by divorcing him right after their wedding. She talks about their Haitian background, where divorces aren’t normal. That’s why she did not want to rush into telling them about this. But he says that she cannot keep him on hold forever. So, she returns to the table.
During the meal, Brit keeps stalling the inevitable. So Joel gets impatient and tells them by himself that he and Brit have separated. It upsets them, and they say that they raised her better than that. After the meal, Brit asks Joel why he cornered her like that. He does not feel any regret for what he did. While Brit did not want to disappoint her parents, she did. Joel thinks she should accept living with that awkwardness since he also faced it with his parents because of her surprise decision about their divorce.

They accept that they both are from different worlds and decide to work on those differences together.
