Wolf Pack (Season 1)’ is a new werewolf drama by Paramount+ that keeps us on the edge of our seats with suspense. The story begins in a California town ravaged by wildfires. The fire spreads and forces animals out of their homes and into the town.  Created by Jeff Davis, Wolf Pack (2023) brings back Sarah Michelle Gellar not only as part of the production team but also as a fierce character who carries the series — based on a novel by Canadian author Edo van Belkom, finally bringing the characters to life on screen.

The series mainly revolves around a group of characters coping with the lasting effects of an attack on a bus that altered their lives forever. Besides Sarah’s return to the screen, there’s also Everett (Armani Jackson), who deals with anxiety but still understands the unusual things surrounding him. He meets Blake (Bella Shepard) on the bus, who is reserved and has a tense home life.

As things become chaotic, both Everett and Blake experience something unusual and unexplainable that makes them connect with Luna (Chloe Rose Robertson) and Harlan (Tyler Lawrence Gray), who have their own hidden secrets. The actors are putting in their best effort, but it’s still unsure what the future holds for the series. Even though the show has received criticism and a low rating, some fans still believe it has its own qualities that make it stand out. While critics are not impressed, many in the audience feel it is worth watching.

Wolf Pack (Season 1) Recap:

Episode 1: From a Spark to a Flame

The first episode starts with a police officer stepping out of a car and seeing a huge wildfire spreading across the city. After that, Everett is on a bus talking to his therapist. His doctor soon informs him that they need to evacuate the building because of the fire, and when he looks outside, the fire is slowly approaching. Everyone on the bus receives a text message saying that class is canceled. Everyone on the bus follows suit as they notice people leaving their cars. Everett leaves the bus and encounters a dangerous situation where animals from the forest attack people. Just as a car is about to hit him, Blake comes to his rescue. During all of this, both Everett and Blake get hurt.

Everett’s shoulder was bleeding badly, so he went to the hospital. Meanwhile, at Blake’s house, her dad was very worried as they were preparing to leave. At that moment, a mysterious creature appeared in the shadows. Everett took his brother and went to the car. The doctor told Everett he would be fine but panicked when he realized they had called his parents. Everett receives a strange call telling him he needs to leave the hospital to avoid danger. He is confused but the caller explains he was bitten and must be killed before the next full moon. Similar things start happening to Blake while she’s at the hospital, so she imagines Everett there and rushes to visit him. Harlan is having a great time at a club. His sister sent him some texts, but he ignored them to enjoy the music with the DJ.

Suddenly, Luna comes and interrupts him, telling him that their father is missing. She asks him to help find their father, but he is not interested until she mentions her heightened sense of smell. Harlan also mentions that his hearing is remarkably sharp. They both realize this usually happens during a full moon, but the full moon is still a few days away. The police come to the hospital to find teenagers from the bus. After that, Harlan and Luna check out the damaged truck. Later, Everett (who escaped from the hospital) reunites with Blake. Harlan and Luna talk about their real father and the chance of him coming for them. Everett begins to notice some changes happening to his body.

Episode 2: Two Bitten, Two Born

The second episode continues with Blake, Everett, Luna, and Harlan in the woods. While they are all together, Blake has a vision that makes her run off, and everyone follows her. They end up meeting firefighters, who scold them for being in the woods. They follow the kids afterwards to their respective homes where they get dropped off. Blake and Everett are now back with their families. Everett’s parents are upset, and Blake notices changes happening in her body. Blake finds a voicemail on the phone with a warning message in the hotel room.

The firefighter tells them they are looking for Harlan’s father. During their conversation about Blake and Everett, Luna wants to help them, but Harlan is uncertain about trusting them. Blake is placing something in front of the door which wakes up her little brother. She tries to comfort him, assuring him that there is nothing to be afraid of. Harlan’s father is still struggling to find safety in the fiery woods. The next morning, the police visit Everett’s house, and his mother assures them that he will cooperate and answer all their questions.

Back at the hotel, Blake hears her dad talking about not paying for the insurance. She talks to him about it and finds out they did not have any insurance for the house. Everett meets Kristin to discuss what happened at the hospital. While doing homework with one of his friends, the friend reveals he got bitten during the fire. He shows Everett the bite, but Everett was hoping to see something like his own changes. Everett later talks to his friend about whether similar things have happened to him and asks him to call after going to the doctor.

Episode 3: Origin Point

A group of kids goes into a restricted area, and when they reach the highest floor of the building, they see the forest lit up by the fire. While discussing their ideas, one of them suggests that Blake might have caused the fire. At the same moment, a huge wolf climbs up the side of the building. Phoebe hears something below them and starts looking into it, but before the wolf shows up, the police arrive and catch the kids.

Blake, Everett, Luna, and Harlan are together in the police car on their way to the station. They encounter Phoebe, who looks at Blake and confesses that she told the police that Blake started the fire at the station. The police bring each of them in for questioning individually. They all admit to smoking weed, but Everett becomes very anxious and makes the situation worse. Shortly after, a cop starts to treat Harlan roughly, accusing him of hitting an officer, but Harlan’s dad bursts into the room and defends him, saying he saw the situation differently.

Phoebe is walking to her car, having a conversation with her dad about what happened. She notices her tire light is on, and she realizes someone slashed her tire. While she’s inside the car, one tire after another gets slashed. Her dad tells her he’s coming to pick her up. Garrett gathers Harlan and Luna at the station, and Kristin mentions that they were just asking them some questions. Kristin claims they volunteered to answer the questions, but Blake contradicts her and says they never did. Luna tells her dad they should go with them because they are like wolves.

Garrett reveals to the kids that something attacked him in the forest, and Harlan wants to know if it is their real father. Garrett learns about Phoebe’s tires and goes to do recon as soon as they get home. After he leaves, the cop who gave Harlan a hard time is sitting outside their house. The cops knock on the door and want to ask some questions. When Harlan steps outside, the cops push him against the house, trying to provoke him. The wolf suddenly jumps on top of one of the cops. Harlan quickly goes back inside, and Luna is on the phone with Garrett. Garrett instructs Harlan to go to the stable and get the gun. A strange voice calls Everett, telling him not to leave the house while they try to get the weapon.

Episode 4: Fear and Pain

The episode opens with Ramsey doing another police interview. Austin is taken to the police station, and Ramsey asks him the same question she asked Everett and Blake. Austin shares a scary thing he saw personally during the forest fire. He saw a big furry creature on the road on that day. He remembers the wolf attacking people, but he is scared to tell more as he thinks Ramsey won’t believe him. However, Ramsey does believe him and calls the creature a ram, which Austin disagrees with. He notices the police bulletin board full of wolf drawings and thinks showing an image of the animal might make Ramsey understand better.

Ramsey strongly believes that one of the students caused the fire, but she does not see any reason why people go missing after the fire. While she investigates at night, she spots a ram crossing the road. The ram is badly injured, with a big claw wound visible on his belly. Garrett tries to convince Harlan and Luna that he does not intend to harm them, but he keeps the bullets for safety reasons. He shares how he rescues two wolf cubs who transform into humans, and now he does not know what Harlan and Luna might become in the future. Garrett later leaves the house with Blake and Everett to take them home. Everett and Blake are struggling to cope with the whole werewolf situation, which makes it difficult for them to get enough sleep at night.

The school reopens the next day. While getting ready for school, Everett overhears his mother talking to his father, and it is clear she does not seem genuinely worried about his mental state. She knows Everett has colic, but instead of comforting him, it feels like she cannot tolerate him. Austin approaches Everett when they are back at school, asking for the same sleeping drugs he is taking. Everett gets really worried when he finds out that Austin has seen the werewolf. And on top of Everett’s anxiety, the other three members of their pack also start experiencing panic attacks. Harlan, Luna, and Blake find Everett in the restroom and try to calm him down, but he cannot.

Harlan is so furious and out of control that he lashes out at Everett, showing his wolf-like teeth. Both Blake and Everett get scared. Except for Luna, the others start to fear each other, thinking they might be dangerous if they stay together.

Episode 5: Incendiary

Episode 5 shows young Harlan standing in front of the woods, and Garrett tells him to go inside and explore. Garrett encourages him to listen carefully to every sound. Harlan hears the beast snarling and takes cover in a hole as he moves forward. He sees a regular wolf charging towards him. In the present, Harlan struggles to hear something while recalling those memories. He dismisses it and goes to Everett’s house. They discuss the werewolf and why it wanted to attack Danny. Blake thinks that maybe the wolf was after Danny to protect her, as he had playfully hit her before.

Meanwhile, the same strange person calls again, and Harlan answers despite Garrett’s warnings. The caller (whose identity remains unknown) recites a few lines from Ovid’s tale about the first werewolf, Lycaon. In the story, Lycaon is the ruler of Arcadia, and he builds a temple for Zeus, attempting to serve the god human flesh. As a punishment, Zeus turns Lycaon into a werewolf. The caller mentions a werewolf in the woods who supposedly kills humans every night. Everett concludes that someone will be killed that night, and the anonymous caller sends him the location of the murder scene.

The four of them rush to the scene and find the doctor and nurse from the hospital where Everett is treated inside a crashed car. The nurse is trying to stay alive, but the wolf has captured the doctor. The wolf takes her into the bushes as Everett and Harlan try to rescue her. They all quickly run away from there.

On their way, Everett decides to prevent the wolf from killing again the next night. Everett is given a different location, which is close to a party that their classmate Tia and her friends have planned for the next day. Ramsey and Garrett arrive at Everett’s school, where the arsonist had taken a component from a 3D printer to create the incendiary device. Ramsey begins to think that Cyrus might be involved in the situation. Harlan had a romantic encounter with Cyrus at the club before. Ramsey thinks Cyrus might be involved in the arson since Cyrus’s firefighter father perished in the fire.

During Ramsey’s interaction with Cyrus, it is revealed that Cyrus’s father perished in the fire twenty years ago when Garrett discovered two wolf cubs, Harlan and Luna. It also becomes clear from Ramsey’s conversation with Cyrus that she is actually aware of Harlan and Luna. Everett, Blake, Harlan, and Luna reach the conclusion that they must go to the party because someone there could be the next target of the werewolf’s attack. To gain entry, Harlan suggests buying mushrooms from a guy he met at the gym. At the gym, Everett and Harlan engage in a friendly competition, with Everett emerging as the winner and also becoming friends with Harlan. Harlan shares his past encounter with the wolf, which he believes is his father.

The four of them reached the party, and Tia let them in when she saw a packet of mushrooms later that night. They all tried one of the mushrooms, and everyone else at the party got high. While Luna spent time with Austin, Everett and Blake had a touching moment together. Harlan, on the other hand, asked Cyrus out on a date. While Austin and Luna were playing the piano together, they noticed something unusual happening outside. Phoebe is acting inappropriately with Blake, trying to make her leave the party, but Harlan plays a voice recording of Phoebe scolding Blake on the night her car’s tires were punctured. While the recording is playing, Austin playfully pulls Phoebe’s legs, making Blake furious, and she throws his phone into the river. As the werewolf approaches to attack them, Austin dives into the water to search for his phone. He quickly gets out of the water, while the wolf also comes out, ready to attack them all.

Episode 6: After Party

Episode 6 picks up right where the previous episode ended. The scene is at the party, and everyone is stuck in the room, trying to figure out what kind of animal is outside. Some think it is a bear, while others say it is a possum, or both. Everett tries to explain everything but cannot. He accidentally lies, saying it is a bear, to protect the pack’s secret. However, Austin notices Everett’s deception and cannot stand that no one is telling the truth. Among them, there is an unfamiliar guy who seems really scared and cannot remember his own name. Everett comforts the guy, assuring him that he will remember his name once the effects of the mushrooms wear off. However, later on, Everett cannot find him; he disappears suddenly.

Cyrus Nix offers to leave the house, and Harlan decides to go with him. Ramsey and Garrett are heading to the party house to apprehend Cyrus, believing he started a fire. Ramsey carries weapons, while Garrett has a pistol with a silver bullet in it. Harlan and Cyrus see the huge werewolf growling as they get close to the woods. Before Harlan can react, Ramsey intervenes and aims the revolver at the creature. Although they are told to run, Harlan cannot shake off his suspicion about Cyrus. He notices that Cyrus’s name is not on the call, and the caller has no ID, just like the strange caller they encountered before.

As Harlan and Cyrus reach Garrett’s stable, Harlan asks Cyrus why his name does not show up on the call. Cyrus explains that he blocks his own number due to receiving strange anonymous calls frequently. Harlan wants to believe that Cyrus is not the arsonist, but the cops are not easily convinced. We see the officers running into the woods to search for Cyrus while Ramsey tries to control the animal. Ramsey talks to the werewolf and offers help to transform him back into a human, to which the werewolf admits needing assistance. A werewolf tries to attack him as Garrett approaches the woods, but Garrett manages to defend himself. When he shoots the wolf, it transforms back into a human. However, something Garrett sees at that moment leads to a sudden twist in the story. Yet Garrett chooses to keep quiet about it.

Episode 7: Lion’s Breath

Everett wakes up late at night and sees that the wolf Garrett shot at is in his room. As he tries to make the wolf remember his name, the wolf gets scared and vanishes. After a while, they start talking, and the kid says that it happens every night, but it is not him. The scene shifts, and it is now the next morning. Everett’s mom asks if he is getting ready for school.

Kirsten comes to Garrett’s house to talk to Harlan, but he is already gone to school. She throws a bullet she found, knowing it belongs to him. After some friendly teasing, she asks him to bring Harlan to her office, promising to protect him as if he were her own child. Danny and Blake’s dad instruct Danny to gather his things as they go to check out the hotel. Everett is explaining to the others what happened, and they are all uncertain about why the wolf is coming to him. He suggests that the group should try to find and capture a werewolf.

They discover a body at the hotel, and Kristin wants to question Blake. Everett asks his mother for the car keys to assist Blake, but she refuses. However, he takes them anyway. Finally, Blake arrives at the hotel and sees a lot of police officers there. Kristin goes to Blake and says she needs to take her to the station for questioning. Blake’s father intervenes, but Blake says she will cooperate if Danny is safe.

Everett then tells Harlan that the only way to save the new wolf is to kill the wolf and bring the human back to life. Luna approaches Austin to be their bait for capturing the wolf, and he agrees to do it. Kristin and Garrett are investigating at a site to find evidence. After Garrett leaves, Kristin’s determinedly recalls the night of the first fire. The firefighters believe they have killed the wolf, but another one appears, transforming into a woman-like creature. The creature attacks and kills the firefighters one by one.

Episode 8: Trophic Cascade

The final episode opens with the injured Baron, whose blood now has silver from the stabbing, experiencing hallucinations where he lives the lives of each pack member. First, he sees himself as Everett having panic attacks in the hospital, then he finds himself as Blake in her parents’ car during an argument. However, he always sees Garrett as his father and Ramsey as his mother in those moments, suggesting he can only see them if they are already pack members or will be soon.

He eventually finds himself in different moments of Harlan and Luna’s lives, where they discover their capability for cruelty even as humans. Slowly, he starts to wake up and return to reality while still lying on the bed, bleeding. Everett does not know how to save Baron, but then an anonymous source calls and offers help, suggesting they remove the silver from his body to save him. However, the source also says that once Baron passes away, they will all become humans again.

Blake wants things to go back to normal, so she convinces Everett to let Baron die. However, Everett cannot let someone die just for their benefit. Harlan and Luna go outside to check on Cyrus, who has been taken into custody. Cyrus admits to Harlan that he caused the wildfire twenty years ago while trying to learn about his father. The fire kills his father and hurts the wolf pack, leading Ramsey to seek revenge.

Harlan and Luna start to doubt Ramsey when they connect the pieces of information, and everything starts making sense. Blake and Everett, on the other hand, assume that Ramsey knows about the werewolves because she is always around them after the fire, shaking their hands, possibly marking them as safe. Garrett finally finds out about Baron from Harlan and Luna, which makes him rush to his house and take Baron to the hospital. Blake does not go with them.

When she returns home, she discovers that Danny will be taken away from her. Ramsey thinks that Blake should consider Danny’s recovery, meaning she plans to turn Danny into a werewolf to bring him back to normal. Since Blake does not want her brother to become a vengeful monster like her, she cannot approve of this strange idea. The FBI gets involved in investigating the dead bodies found at the building site.

Everett is taken to a hospital for his mental health, and the police detain Harlan on suspicion of killing officer Miller. However, they later discover that Malcolm, who appears in episode 6 and talks about the wildfire, has taken Baron to a remote location to finish him off. Malcolm reveals that the recent wildfire was started by Baron’s mother to find her son. Ramsey initiates the wildfire to track down Baron, who is attacked in the blaze and transformed into a monstrous werewolf.

Wolf Pack (Season 1) Ending Explained:

How is Kristin Ramsey connected to the wolf pack?

As season 1 comes to an end, Blake and Danny are being taken away by social services temporarily, and their dad has to appeal to get them back. Blake is learning from Kristin that Danny could be healed. At the same time, Everett’s parents are sending him back to a medical facility due to his actions in Episode 7. This does not look good for Everett’s case. Harlan meets Cody, who is the son of someone from Cyrus’s father’s group during the wildfire.

Before Harlan can take any action, the police arrest him for Officer Tyler’s murder, even though the werewolf is the real culprit. At the hospital, Malcolm takes Baron to a place that looks like the fire depot. Kristin gets there after being told by an anonymous caller and finds a man waiting there. They shoot at each other, and while this happens, Kristin gets another call from the anonymous person.

The anonymous person admits to creating the pack but sparing their lives. He also tells Kristin that he has brought Garrett to the same place. Garrett shows up, and Kristin confesses to him that she is Harlan and Luna’s mother and just wants to help them. Baron is there, and Kristin uses her power to heal him. She also stops the man and would have killed him if Garrett had not intervened. Kristin explains to Garrett that every ecosystem relies on a powerful top predator.

She might have a plan for the pack, and she believes they would be ideal parents for them. When Garrett asks if she wants him to be their human father, Kristin clarifies that she wants him to become a wolf, while Baron looks aggressive and prepares to turn Garrett into a wolf, as instructed by his mother.
