A Breed Apart (2025) is a creature horror flick written and directed by The Furst Brothers. It follows a group of social media influencers who end up on an island for a competition, hoping that would change their lives for the better. Instead, it puts them in more misery and excruciating pain as they need to fight off a bunch of canines, thirsty for their blood. So, it becomes a survival horror thriller flick where these celebrities try their best to make it out alive. In the end, some of them manage to leave the island, whether dead or alive.

‘A Breed Apart’ follows a bunch of young social media celebrities caught on an island amid a group of feral canines, who are out for their blood. So, they must find a way out to save themselves.
What happens in ‘A Breed Apart’?
The movie begins with a scenario a few hours before the horror in its premise. It shows a movie set built on an isolated island and dogs are supposed to be a part of some of its scenes. That’s why the movie crew gets a safety crew on board to be in charge of the hounds. They are there to ensure that the actors or anyone else doesn’t get hurt by the dogs. However, they fail to protect the crew after the dogs suddenly get out of their control. It’s not clear whether these dogs get possessed or if they are naturally violent and the safety crew didn’t look into these matters as they should have.
No matter what, the dogs kill the safety crew and then, the rest of the crew to the point no one survives. Instead of working on a story, they become a story. A few years later, Vince Ventura (Joey Bragg) decides to host a game for celebrities on the same island. However, he doesn’t tell them right away. Instead, he lures them with an offer that the movie doesn’t tell us. All the influencers just hop into a helicopter after he invites them for some sort of plan. The influencers include Thalia (Virginia Gardner), Queen (Riele Downs), Mason Kelly (Troy Gentile), Big Farmer Jay (Page Kennedy), and Collins (Zak Steiner).
Collins’ sister, Violet (Grace Caroline Currey) just like she reluctantly joins his social media content creation business. He mostly makes mindless YouTube videos that bring him more views and likes. However, they do not add any value to the lives of anyone who sees them, which bothers Violet. She doesn’t consider that art and Collins probably doesn’t understand what art is to argue with her. He just points out that it pays their bills. So, she joins him in his soulless pursuit of clicks. For the same reason, she joins him on the island.
Why do dogs attack celebrities?
The movie never clarifies why the dogs attack the celebrities. It doesn’t even leave it open to interpretation. Instead, it simply doesn’t care about any of these matters. It is just content in showing its gorefest for the sake of it. That gorefest begins shortly after the influencers land on the island. They look at it as a peaceful getaway that can bring them more clout. Soon after, Vince tells them about his planned game, which includes the story of the destroyed movie set. He wants the influencers to get into a real-life survival battle with the canines.
Whoever kills the most dogs, wins. However, he thinks everyone wins, in a way, since they all get footage of this fight, which increases their views and subscriber count. So on and so forth. However, that doesn’t go nearly as well when they come face to face with the dogs. He brings one of them outside. It immediately bites into him, leaving everyone else running for their lives. The influencers rush back to the house and lock it, hoping that will keep them out, but the dogs break in regardless. They attack everyone and bite Collins.

Does anyone make it out alive?
After Collins gets attacked, the influencers desperately try to find a way out of the island. Their only way to get in touch with the outside world was Vince. Since he is dead, they think the internet will help them get out, but that doesn’t help either. Mason decides to run out of the island on Vince’s boat but Violet doesn’t want to do that because she doesn’t want to leave Collins behind. While trying to secure the key to the boat, Mason gets bitten by a dog. Violet, Thalia, and Queen lock Mason inside the house and drive away with Collins and Jay.
Toward the end, Violet and Thalia manage to enter the boat with Queen but can’t save her. Violet makes peace with Thalia even though she hates her lifestyle choices. Then, she finds Mason on the boat along with some dogs. After she kills him, Collins arrives. While trying to ward off the threat, the two women get help from Thalia’s sister Hayden who arrives there just in time to save them. She realizes Thalia is in danger through a livestream. So, she rescues Thalia, Violet, and barely conscious Collins from the island through her helicopter, leaving Jay behind.
A Breed Apart (2025) Movie Review:
‘A Breed Apart’ feels like the kind of movie that you have been forced into making. It fails at every conceivable level you can imagine. The most obvious failure is its execution with atrocious post-production, trying to patch up the shoddy camerawork with some awful visual effects. That alone takes away any genuine thrill from its creature horror.
The performances are overdone, which can be considered intentional since the movie revolves around influencers and their hunger for attention. However, the script, if there is one, never truly commits to a potential satire either. It just looks like a mix of jumbled ideas that you want to award yourself for sitting through.
