In Episode 9 of Bad Monkey, titled “You Really Don’t Want to Kill This Scrumptious Little Puppy,” tensions rise as Yancy and Rosa navigate their budding relationship. The love-struck partners in crime believe they’ve successfully outsmarted the Striplings; however, the repeated mention of the storm in this episode hints at challenges that could potentially threaten both relationships and lives. We also see Gracie grappling with her past and the consequences of her choices, seeking closure before leaving the island.
In this article, I will discuss what happens in the recent episode of Bad Monkey, including an explanation of the episode’s ending. Please be cautious while reading, as this article contains spoilers.
Bad Monkey Episode 9 ‘You Really Don’t Want to Kill This Scrumptious Little Puppy’ Recap:
The episode begins with Yancy and Rosa leaving Dawnie’s place after spending a good time together. The team (Yancy, Rosa, Neville, and Dawnie) thinks they nailed it at conning the Striplings, and luck is on their side. But is it?
Meanwhile, we see Gracie finding her way back to Ya Ya for goodbyes before she leaves the island. While Ya Ya is convinced Gracie is not making the right choice by leaving, Gracie wants to live her life without struggling and become something on her own terms. She wants a happy life for herself and wants Ya Ya to come along with her. When Ya Ya declines the offer, the two women embrace in peace for the last time.
While taking a stroll on the beach, Rosa tells Yancy that she would like to move forward with their relationship. At this point, the episode hints that a big storm is approaching, and we can sense danger lurking for Rosa and Gracie, who seem confident about what they want at this point in the series. We see Yancy showing interest and concern for Rosa as the two daydream about moving back to the Keys and starting fresh.
Soon, Rosa gets a message that the Striplings want her to join them in Miami right away, making Rosa freak out about the sudden change of plans. Yancy calms her down with a kiss and even provides Neville’s pistol (which he borrowed from his uncle) for self-defense. Rosa refuses to take the pistol, but Yancy slips it into her purse without her knowing.
A road to starting fresh: Ya Ya & Lulu, Bonnie
It is interesting how the series is confidently creating subplots for side characters for a possible season 2 (so hopeful if not anything!). We see an upset Ya Ya by her daughter’s grave, probably worrying about Gracie. She meets Lulu (Dawnie’s little sister), who shares that she can also feel things. Ya Ya points out that Lulu possesses great qualities for becoming a witch/magic lady and that she can teach her magic if Lulu wants to.
Bonnie, on the other hand, has magic too—impressing young men with her charms. After being sentenced to 8 years for setting a house on fire, she tries to sweet-talk Detective Russell into shortening the term, but in vain. So she charms one of the prison officers, and lo and behold, finds her way to freedom, as we see her enjoying a ride with the officer in his swanky car.
I guess what the episode points out here is that one just needs to believe they have magic and use it appropriately for their convenience in life.
What happens to Rosa when Eve finds out her truth?
Rosa meets Eve at her house, thinking she is flying out with the Striplings to Miami as per their deal. However, as we already knew, Eve is clever enough to figure out the truth. Before Rosa can fathom anything, Eve puts Egg in charge of keeping an eye on the culprit so she can clear her path.
Team Yancy vs. The Striplings
After learning that all flights are canceled due to the storm alert, Gracie returns to the island’s only good restaurant. This is when she meets Yancy and Neville, who come there hoping to go fishing. Yancy senses something is off about Gracie when she doesn’t respond to Neville’s excitement about how her magic curse worked against the Striplings. On probing further, Yancy learns that Eve knows about Rosa, prompting him to jump into action immediately.
Yancy rushes to the Striplings’ place, hoping to save Rosa but ends up getting gunned down by Nick, who wants to finish him off without thinking twice. However, Eve wants the bloodbath to happen outside their bedroom. So when Nick walks Yancy out of the house to kill him, Yancy somehow grabs hold of Eve’s darling little dog, making things very dicey for the Striplings.
Eve initially commands Nick not to shoot Yancy, fearing her dog might get hurt. However, when Yancy uses this standoff to manipulate Nick into how Caitlin (his daughter) wants her father back in her life, Eve loses her temper, ordering Nick to kill Yancy right away. At this point, Neville also arrives and hits Nick with a fishing hook that gets stuck in his back really badly, as Yancy and Neville run from the scene.
Does Gracie leave the island?
Back at the shack, Gracie meets a woman at the bar. The woman gives Gracie a familial vibe, so she hangs out with her, even accompanying the woman to a graveyard. Gracie, who has lost her way in the cobweb of greed and deceit by joining hands with the wrong people, finally finds peace when she realizes that the woman she saw at the bar was actually the spirit of her mother, helping Gracie find her way back to mend her actions. After having a sense of enlightenment and realizing that her mother would have been proud of her regardless of what Gracie chose to become in life, Gracie embraces her identity as the Dragon Queen.

Why doesn’t Yancy leave the island with Rosa?
On the other hand, we see Rosa making it back to Dawnie’s place, where Neville and Yancy are plotting ideas to clean up the mess. It turns out that Egg took her to Nick’s shack office on the beach, and the two of them just sat there in silence. When Rosa opened her purse to stress eat a protein bar, she found the pistol that Yancy hid and accidentally shot Egg in the leg with it.
Neville suggests that Yancy and Rosa must get off the island now that things are messier than before. The two of them then meet Claspers at the bar. Yancy comes clean about their identity to Claspers and threatens to put him behind bars if he doesn’t get Rosa and him out before the storm hits the island, due to his various illegal flying activities, apart from helping his boss—the Striplings. Claspers, who was unaware that Nick and Eve are murderers, eventually agrees. As they begin to fly out, Yancy has an epiphany.
He tells Rosa that he has to finish what he started—which means catching Nick and Eve. Rosa is not happy with Yancy’s decision and even calls it off for good. Before Rosa flies out with Claspers, Yancy tells her that after reaching the Keys, she needs to call Rogelio and update him on everything. The episode ends with Gracie, now the Dragon Queen, having a face-off with Eve, who had come to her for help to fix Nick with her magic.
