Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is one of the most celebrated directors of the era, known for his commendable directorial vision. His recent directorial film, the epic sci-fi Dune: Part Two, and the 2021 released prequel Dune prove Villeneuve’s glory. Both the films were critically and commercially successful, the sequel being the highest-grossing film of the year. Since both the films were huge successes, there are chances that Villeneuve will soon bring its threequel. Though Villeneuve is more than willing to commence “Dune: Part Three,” there is a condition put forth by the filmmaker that suggests that if Dune 3 is made, it ought to be better than Part Two.

There will be a Dune Three but on one condition…says Denis Villeneuve

After the success of both his novel adaption films “Dune” and “Dune: Part Two,” director Denis Villeneuve is being hailed for his impeccable work. Since both the films have performed massively well and have earned a dedicated fan base, fans are highly anticipating the third part. To everyone’s astonishment, Villeneuve is also thinking of the same, however, he has be to utterly sure in certain areas before commencing the project.

Villeneuve said that he’s only going to move forward with making a third movie, based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah novel, if he knows for a fact it will be better than Dune: Part Two. Considering the success of the previous two Dune films and Villeneuve’s incredible direction, Dune 3 doesn’t seem to be a distant dream. Villeneuve recently told Empire magazine when the possibility of a third “Dune” came up: “I did both movies back-to-back, which makes absolute sense for me. I felt that it was a good idea to move forward right after ‘Part One.’ We were already designing, writing, et cetera.

But it also meant that for six years, I was on Arrakis non-stop, and I think it will be healthy to step back a little bit. First, make sure that we have a strong screenplay. The thing I want to avoid is not having something ready. I never did it, and now I feel it could be dangerous because of the enthusiasm. We need to make sure all the ideas are on paper. If we go back, it needs to be real, it needs to be relevant. If ever I do ‘Dune Messiah,’ [it’s] because it’s going to be better than ‘Part Two,’ Otherwise, I don’t do it.”

This isn’t the first time the filmmaker has teased that he will be making a third Dune movie. Before the release of Dune: Part Two, he told fans that he was nearing the completion of a script based on “Dune Messiah.”

He even declared that he was confident Part Two was a better movie than Part One, so perhaps the same will be true of Part Three

Dune: Part Two featured an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh. Many of the cast members of the film have also expressed their interest in returning for a third movie. So, whatever the filmmaker decides in the near future regarding Part Three, we hope that it’s in the favor of eager fans and the cast members who would love to reprise their roles.
