Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman (2023) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

What is a Talisman? As the narrator tells us, it is a Korean paper painted with scriptures and symbols to imprison a ghost. The film begins with an older man inside a cave-like structure trying to save a small boy. The boy is Dong-soo, the man’s grandson. As the man approaches, a bell attached to a thread on his hand starts ringing. Subsequently, Dr. Cheon wakes up in a car with In Bae. They have come to get rid of ghosts from a family’s home.

The wife tells the duo that her daughter is a nice girl, but suddenly, she has become rude and disrespectful. The wife assumes that her daughter is possessed. Dr. Cheon checks the bell on his hand, which isn’t ringing. Still, he tells the family he smells something foul from the house. He accurately tells them all the bad things happening in their life, and the family is impressed.

Dr. Cheon sees a stone and asks In Bae to set up things there. In Bae asks the family to stay inside his barrier and not move out of it no matter what happens. Dr. Cheon and In Bae start the prayers to capture the ghosts. Obviously, the duo is scamming people as In Bae has a remote control to create effects when required. Unfortunately, their car is towed, and they cannot get a signal as the setup is connected to Wi-Fi. They still manage to create some effects and get away with it. The family is also happy with Dr. Cheon’s advice. He explains that everything is in the mind.

In a flashback, we see before coming to the house, he had come prepared. In fact, he has gone through the daughter’s social media and assessed the situation. Dr. Cheon visits Mr. Hwang and gives him a golden toad taken from the house in exchange for some money. Then the trio talk and Mr. Hwang asks Dr. Cheon not to scam people as he is the firstborn of the famous Wizard house. Dr. Cheon gets angry and walks away.

In Bae is editing a video, and Yoo Kyung comes into the room. In Bae is attracted to her at first sight. However, Dr. Cheon refuses to help her as they are completely booked and, in private, explains to In Bae that she doesn’t have money to pay them. Yoo Kyung surprises them by throwing a lot of money at them and asking for their help. Later, In Bae and Dr. Cheon go with Yoo Kyung. They follow her into her village, which feels eerie.

As they enter, they see many people who look like wizards. In the house, Yoo Kyung tells them that her sister, Yoo Min, is possessed. The duo does the usual, and Dr. Cheon approaches Yoo Min and says he will help her older sister. He starts to reveal that the bell would ring if someone was possessed and shakes his hand, and the bell rings. Naturally, Dr. Cheon is shocked as it has never done that before. The spirit inside the girl gets out and goes towards Yoo Kyung.

Yoo Kyung has a special ability where she can see ghosts/spirits. She tells Dr. Cheon that the spirit (Beom-Cheon) is in front of her. Dr. Cheon takes out a broken sword and gets rid of the spirit. Subsequently, Dr. Cheon sends In Bae to Mr Hwang, and he goes back to the village. Mr. Hwang sees the video and what had happened and asks Dr. Cheon not to do anything. But Dr. Cheon ignores him and asks him to meet at a hotel soon. On the way, Mr. Hwang explains about Dr. Cheon’s family to In Bae. Dr. Cheon’s grandfather was a Lord Wizard. Moreover, Dr. Cheon has a younger brother called Dong Soo.

Dr. Cheon did not want to become the Lord Wizard. Therefore, Dong Soo became one. Dong-Soo disappeared one day, and there was a sermon to find him. It turns out Beom-Cheon had possessed Dong Soo. When his grandfather went to save him, Beom-Cheon tried to attack, but he was smart. He had put a talisman and put the magical sword in it, which was cut.

This helped the grandfather put a barrier and protect himself and the others. But one day, both the grandfather and Dong Soo were found dead. Meanwhile, Yoo Min wanders out, and Dr. Cheon finds a talisman inside her pillow. Yoo Kyung and Dr. Cheon follow Yoo Min and fight the other possessed people, but Yoo Min is taken. Beom-Cheon uses other people to work for him by possessing them. Beom-Cheon is annoyed as every item he uses is getting destroyed by Dr. Cheon. In fact, he takes out his anger on the people working for him.

Mr Hwang takes the group to a famous fortune teller to find Beom-Cheon. They pay their respects, and a fairy emerges and possesses the fortune teller. However, only Yoo Kyung can see the fairy. Through the fortune teller, the fairy tells them where to find Beom-Cheon. She also tells them that the only way to destroy the talismans is to read it upside down, which only Yoo Kyung can do.

Beom-Cheon is looking for Yoo Kyung as he wants her eyes to become powerful. The fairy tells Dr. Cheon that he cannot seal Beom-Cheon, especially even someone as powerful as his grandfather could not. Dr. Cheon is confident, as Yoo Kyung can see, and he is a great swordsman. It can be solved if they work together. The fairy also tells them that the talisman was split into two. Subsequently, the group sets out to the mountains.

Once they arrive, In Bae fires a flare gun so Yoo Kyung can find the talisman. Beom-Cheon’s man is watching to see what happens. They reach a small house-like structure, but Yoo Kyung can see the talisman and the spirits. Dr. Cheon proceeds inside and suddenly is possessed by Beom-Cheon. He is shown an image of his grandfather and younger brother and the grandfather stabbing him. Dr. Cheon gets a grip, fights the hallucination, and comes alive with the talisman.

The group drives to the following location in two cars but is interrupted by the possessed beings. Yoo Kyung, unfortunately, is taken, and the trio sets out to finish the job. They reach the place where his grandfather had put a barrier. Dr. Cheon asks Mr Hwang and In Bae to stay outside and blow up the area at the right time. He bids farewell in case he won’t come out alive. Dr. Cheon gets inside and sees the talisman with the sword.

Yoo Kyung and Yoo Min are tied there, and Beom-Cheon says Dr. Cheon is more like his grandfather than his brother. He starts to attack Dr. Cheon, and they fight. In Bae is setting up devices to bomb the place. Dr. Cheon thinks he has defeated Beom-Cheon, but another man is possessed and attacks Dr. Cheon. The same spirit gets inside Beom-Cheon, and he comes back to fight.
