It’s time for Timothée Chalamet to celebrate as he has certainly established himself as a leading man in the film industry. Playing theatrically for over a month, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has passed yet another box office milestone. The epic science-fiction sequel added $1 million to its domestic total, thereby taking its global earnings to $631.3 million. The film has now grossed approximately $300,000 more globally as compared to fellow Warner Bros. release Wonka, making Dune: Part Two Chalamet’s biggest film of his career.
In both the films, Wonka and Dune’s sequel, Chalamet played the leading role, and both films turned out to be critically and commercially successful. While Wonka marked its release during the fall of 2023, Dune: Part Two was released just a few months later. Both the films were originally slated for release in the same year. Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Dune: Part Two release was delayed. The movie opened to $82 million domestically — a record for 2024 — and has so far generated a total of $257 million in the US. Meanwhile, Wonka earned $218 million domestically and $412 million from overseas markets. Dune: Part Two is still behind the overseas earnings of the musical drama, having made $373 million so far.
Timothée Chalamet seems unstoppable at the box office as his films are breaking records
Timothée Chalamet’s latest two films, Wonka and Dune: Part Two, have grossed over $630 million each globally, earning a whopping $1.2 billion combined. This isn’t the first time the actor has achieved box-office success, as his previous films, such as Little Women and Lady Bird, were also commercially successful. Both films were novel adaptations. While the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert became the base for Dune: Part Two, Wonka was based on the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
Chalamet’s latest film, Dune: Part Two, is currently the seventh-biggest IMAX release of all time, having generated nearly $140 million worldwide in the premium format. Made on a whopping budget of $190 million, the film indeed doubled the returns on Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s investment by earning a profit and coming up with an estimated break-even point of $500 million globally.
After the great success of the epic science fiction film, it has been reported that the filmmaker Villeneuve is currently developing the third movie based on the book Dune: Messiah.
