And now little details regarding the cast of the film have come into light. His upcoming Jesus movie may mark his reunion with Andrew Garfield or he may cast Miles Teller in the role of Jesus. What is Martin Scorcese’s next project, and what is it about?
Martin Scorsese will be commencing the shoot of his upcoming adaptation of “A Life of Jesus” this year. The movie will be based on the 1973 novel by Shūsaku Endō of the same name. Variety recently reported that the filmmaker is looking to finance the movie independently, bypassing the studio system. He took the same approach with the 2016 drama Silence. It was also based on a novel by Endō.
The film featured Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver as two Portuguese Catholic missionaries who travel to Japan to try and find their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) after news spreads of him renouncing his faith. The filmmaker is planning to once again collaborate with Garfield for the Jesus project, though it’s unclear if the 40-year-old actor is being eyed for the titular role or to play one of the disciples. Another actor who is also a potential candidate for the role of Jesus is Miles Teller, who is prominently known for his appearance in films like “Fantastic Four” (2015), “War Dogs” (2016), and “Top Gun: Maverick” (2022).
The film’s production is expected to begin later this year and be shot in Israel, Italy, and Egypt. Scorsese has planned to shoot two films back to back. Once he finishes his Jesus film, the filmmaker will immediately commence his second project, a Frank Sinatra biopic.
Sinatra was an American singer and actor who was also known as “Ol’ Blue Eyes.” He is regarded as one of the most popular entertainers of the mid-20th century. In Scorsese’s film Sinatra’s character is portrayed by Scorsese’s frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio, who recently appeared in Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated film Killers of the Flower Moon alongside Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro.
As of Sinatra’s biopic, Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to star as the iconic singer and his second wife, Ava Gardner.
