Lady Gaga, who has been confirmed to play the iconic DC character Harley Quinn in the upcoming Joker sequel, titled Joker: Folie à deux, is finally here. The film, which is part of the DC Elseworlds franchise, finds director Todd Phillips returning with an original script that he has been working on with Scott Silver.
The first look of Gaga in character was shared by Phillips on Instagram with a caption that read ‘Happy Valentine’s Day.’ The picture features Gaga in character alongside Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, who seems to have fully embodied the Joker persona now.
Joker, released in 2019, grossed over $1 billion and earned Phoenix his first Best Actor Oscar. Phillips, who had shared glimpses of the first film on his social media, seems to have followed the lucky tradition for his newest venture. Joker 2 has already commenced rigorous shoots in New York and Los Angeles, with a release date set for October 4, 2024.

Gaga has previously worked with Phillips on A Star Is Born, which he produced, and the first looks is sure going to make heads turn. The musical sequel has a well-rounded supporting cast that includes Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and Zazie Beetz. Margot Robbie, who has played Harley Quinn in several DC movies, sent Gaga good wishes for taking the baton from her hands.
With the recent announcement from James Gunn and Peter Safran, it would be interesting to see how Joker: Folie à deux (which is not a part of the DC Universe that is being constructed) plays out.
Safran has clarified that the film will be “labeled clearly as DC Elseworlds, just like the comics do.” He added that the bar is set high for projects outside the DC Universe, but occasionally, there will be something that lives up to it.
