Jazz Ramsey: A K-9 Mystery (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

“Jazz Ramsey: A K-9” opens with Jazz talking to her colleague about her days as a firefighter. Her father used to be one, and he was well-regarded around the town. Jazz has lost her father. Her line of work inspires her to be like him. Later, she goes to Astor Academy, where her best friend from childhood days, Sarah Carrington, is the headmistress. Sarah has organized a special class on crime awareness, and she brings Jazz as a guest teacher. Sarah has her own plans for making this class an official one if things go well.

When Jazz starts demonstrating how dogs help discover hidden things at a crime scene, Zeus points at something that intrigues their queries. The class is dismissed. When Jazz removes the carpet, she finds the body of a woman. The police arrive, and since the body was kept for so many days, the face is destroyed completely. So, based on the dress and other accessories, Jazz and Sarah come to the conclusion that the dead body is of Bernadette Quinn, one of the oldest teachers in the school.

Why do Mrs. Quinn and Sarah Never Get Along?

Detective Nick, Jazz’s ex-lover, takes charge of the investigation. He soon discovers that Mrs. Quinn and Sarah have had some trouble with each other. This comes up when Sarah explains to Nick that, with time, it is becoming rather clearer that Mrs. Quinn is not a good fit for the school. When she tried to offer her a generous retirement package, she could not stand the sight of her least favorite student. The thing is, both Jazz and Sarah used to be Quinn’s students, and she didn’t like Sarah because of a prank she had pulled during her school days.

This makes Nick think that since the two did not get along well, there must be a motive for Sarah to kill Quinn. Also, the fact that she asked Quinn to retire and Quinn’s denial somehow makes Sarah one of the prime suspects on Nick’s list. Jazz tries to reason with him. However, since there is not much evidence to proceed, Nick has no option but to start the investigation with this bit. With time, we get to know about the prank as well, where a hamster from the school was replaced by another hamster by Sarah.

Sarah’s cousin was sad, so she stole the hamster from the school to make him happy. However, when Quinn found out about this, she was furious and wanted to punish everyone in the class. Later, Sarah came up with the idea and put another hamster in place of the old one. She thought that Quinn would not know. However, she informs Jazz’s father about it, saying that Sarah is a bad influence on her. Quinn, however, disliked by many for her rough behavior, always had a soft corner for Jazz, which inspires her more to get to the bottom of the truth.

When did Mrs. Quinn decide to Resign?

The more Nick gets involved in the Quinn and Sarah feud, the more information he is able to pull out. Following such a clue, he, along with Jazz, goes to Mr. Manard to ask a few questions as he is the parent who had complained against Quinn to Sarah. He tells them that since his daughter, Maddie, is an introverted kind, Quinn at first tries to help her get over by giving her extra attention. With time, that extra attention became unreasonable, so Manard tried to stop it from happening. When he found no way out of the situation, he complained to Sarah, the headmistress.

In the beginning, since Maddie was adopted and missed her mother, she liked the attention she was receiving from Quinn. Quinn even gave her books. When Manard shows one of those to Jazz, she sees Laila written in one corner of its cover. Anyway, when the teacher became a stalker, Manard had to go to the headmistress. When Sarah goes to talk to Quinn about this, she basically sues the school. Sarah explains to Jazz that she hadn’t mentioned it before. Just when she was about to discuss the matter with Quinn and her lawyer, they abruptly canceled the meeting. To her surprise, Quinn tendered her resignation shortly after.

Why does Eddie Attack Jazz?

One day, while Jazz visits her father’s grave, she finds a man who she had seen earlier in school running away from them. She goes to talk to him and learns that he is Sam, Quinn’s distant relative. He also says that Quinn has changed after an accident took the lives of her beloved daughter and husband. Later, Jazz and Nick find out where Quinn’s house is. Jazz goes to see who is currently living there since the electricity bills are being paid on time. Jazz sees that Sam himself is staying there. He is paying the bills since no one is left to take care of Quinn’s belongings.

At this moment, Jazz finds a photograph of Quinn’s dead daughter, who looks exactly the same as Maddie. Her name was Laila. Things start to fall in line as Jazz realizes that Quinn has found her daughter in Maddie, which is why she is basically stalking her all the time. Later that evening, a masked man hits Jazz with a stick, resulting in a cut on her forehead. Later, it is discovered that Eddie, the janitor from the school, attacks her as he fears that Jazz could discover that he is stealing money from the school to gamble.

Right after that, Mr. Manard comes to meet with Sarah and Jazz. Meanwhile, Nick collects the resignation letter from Quinn’s lawyer’s office and finds incredible similarities between that and Quinn’s own resignation letter. This triggers some doubt inside his head. After a bit of research, he finds out that Quinn’s lawyer, Deirdre Mason, has changed her name from Susan Harper, the woman who was responsible for killing Quinn’s daughter and husband in the accident. While Nick is trying to untie the knots, back in school, Sarah, Jazz, and Manard find out that Maddie is missing.

Can Jazz and Zeus Unmask the Killer?

Jazz somehow trusts her gut and luckily finds Maggie. But she is kidnapped by the one and only Mrs. Quinn. She confesses that she has killed Deirdre Mason because she already knows her real identity. She could never forgive Susan Harper for killing her daughter and husband. The law failed to give her proper sentencing. Therefore, Quinn had made up her mind to take revenge when the right time arrived. Meanwhile, in school, she finds Maddie, who looks just like Laila. She starts to make a motherly connection with her. Right then, Manard complains against her, which eventually gives her the opportunity to take revenge on Susan, AKA Deirdre Mason.

One day, when Quinn and Deirdre were supposed to meet with Sarah after school, Quinn took Deirdre to the third floor, which was being renovated at that time. It was the last day before summer vacation. Quinn stabs Deirdre to death, hides her body on the floor, and replaces her dress with Quinn’s. In the CCTV camera, everyone sees that it is Deirdre who exits the school premises, not Quinn. Quinn confesses that she got the idea from Sarah because they did the same thing by replacing the hamster. However, the DNA report would eventually prove everything. But by that time, Quinn would have disappeared with Maddie.

Thanks to Jazz and Nick, who arrived on time and made sure that Quinn could no longer harm anyone. They rescue Maddie from her clutches. Later, Nick takes Quinn into custody. At the end of the film, we see Zeus has passed his graduation as he is being taken by the Georgia police as their K-9. Jazz is quite upset about letting Zeus go because, unlike any other dog she has ever trained so far, she has basically solved a murder mystery with him. However, Nick gives her a new dog as a gift, and the circumstances demand the reconciliation of the lovers.
