Among his several writing works is his novel Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance, which the filmmaker seeks to adapt as a film. In October 2022, Deadline reported that Village Roadshow Pictures optioned the novel for a film adaptation, with Waters set to write the screenplay and direct. Though everything is almost planned to begin the development of the film, what hampers the project is the budget required to make the film.

The filmmaker has confirmed that Aubrey Plaza will lead his upcoming film Liarmouth.

Aubrey Plaza will lead Liarmouth as Marsha Sprinkle, a “compulsive kleptomaniac” who plans a heist with her lover, Daryl, only to become separated from him. About her involvement, Waters summarized the situation thusly, saying, “I’m thrilled that she’s going to [star in it].”
Plaza is a renowned actress who is popularly known for her appearance in the second season of the HBO anthology series The White Lotus, for which she received nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
Her upcoming collaboration with Waters may add to her impressive resume.
