Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) Movie Ending, Explained

Jumanji: The Next Level Ending Explained: Jumanji, as a media franchise, has had quite a successful run spanning nearly three decades now, and quite rightly so. Starting off as a children’s fantasy picture book in the 80s, Jumanji spiraled into a movie series in the upcoming decades. Three movies and an animated TV show are a part of the legendary canon now, along with an additional book sequel titled Zathura, released in 2002.

The 1995 Jumanji turned out to be a movie loved by the audiences, and the next decade saw the release of Zathura, which was basically ‘Jumanji in space.’ So, when the franchise was resurrected in 2017, it was essentially a case of dusting off old files from the shelf. A reboot, trying to rebuild the 1995 classic and not remake it or touch it otherwise.

The 2017 film, Welcome to the Jungle became a huge blockbuster, raking in nearly a billion US dollars. It could very well be attributed to the all-new star cast of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, and Bobby Cannavale. The movie also kicked high due to its director, Jake Kasdan, working on a surprisingly fresh and brilliant script.

The 2019 film, The Next Level, serves as a sequel to the 2017 film, with almost the entire cast reprising roles with some additional cast as well.

Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) Movie Synopsis and Plot Summary:

The movie picks up two years after where the last film dropped its anchor. The quartet of friends, Spencer (Alex Wolff), Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain), Martha ( Morgan Turner), and Bethany (Madison Iseman), decide to meet up at a local restaurant called Nora’s, which used to be run by Spencer’s grandfather Eddie (Danny DeVito) and his friend Milo (Danny Glover). When the friends get together and find Spencer missing, they look out for him at his home only to realize that he has gone into Jumanji.

The remaining friends decide to help Spencer. They get into Jumanji as well, with the exception of Bethany, who gets left behind. She seeks the help of Alex (Colin Hanks), a character the quartet had rescued in the previous movie, to get into the Jungle. Meanwhile, Eddie and Milo are inadvertently pulled into the Jungle as well.

What player identities do the real-world characters get, and what is their mission this time?

The player identities get muddled up this time, though. Martha becomes her original avatar Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), whom she had been in the previous adventure. Fridge gets to become Professor Sheldon Oberon (Jack Black), who had been Bethany in the previous adventure, while Eddie and Milo become Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson) and Franklin Finbar (Kevin Hart), who had been Spencer and Fridge respectively.

Later the group meets Spencer, who has found the avatar of a female pickpocket, Ming Fleetfoot (Awkwafina). They are finally joined by Alex, accompanied by Bethany, who have the avatars of Jefferson McDonough (Nick Jonas), and Cyclone, a horse who can only be understood by Finbar, respectively.

The Non-Player Character, Nigel Billingsley (Rhys Darby), informs the group that Jumanji is suffering from a severe drought. The game guide instructs them that in order to leave the game, they have to recover a necklace called Falcon Heart, stolen by a warlord and Bravestone’s rival, Jurgen the Brutal (Rory McCann).

Meanwhile, the group comes across a magical river having green waters with the power to switch avatars at Mt. Zhatmare. This allows Spencer, Bethany, and Fridge to return to their original avatars (Bravestone, Oberon, and Finbar, respectively) again, while Eddie and Milo end up as Ming and Cyclone.

How does the group accomplish its mission?

Eddie and Milo are soon captured by Jurgen’s men. The quartet braces itself up for the dual challenge of rescuing Eddie and Milo, as well as the necklace. Fridge and Bethany successfully rescue Ming and Cyclone and then later try to fool Jurgen into giving them the necklace. However, they get caught, and Jurgen tries to escape onto his airship, followed by Spencer.

Spencer manages to weaken Jurgen using a wild berry the group had found on their way to the fortress. He manages to recover the necklace and throws him off the plane. Ming and Cyclone fly towards the sky to get the necklace to sunlight, marking their mission accomplished. It is later found that Cyclone is not an ordinary horse but a Pegasus.

Milo returns the necklace to Nigel and wishes to stay back owing to his illness in the real world. He feels that his life would be longer and happier in Jumanji. He also reconciles with Eddie. The friends unite, especially Spencer and Martha. Martha encourages Spencer not to feel insecure with other friends as they are there for each other. Eddie later joins as a Manager at the diner he previously ran with Milo.

What does the herd of ostriches outside the cafe in the last scene mean for the film and future sequels?

Finally, back at Spencer and Eddie’s home, Spencer’s mom (Marin Hinkle), accompanied by the furnace repairman (Lamorne Morris), approaches the basement. The repairman gets interested in the video game and presses a button on the console, though dissuaded a little by Spencer’s mom. The scene cuts to Nora’s cafe, where a herd of ostriches is seen rushing past the restaurant. Spencer, Martha, Bethany, and Fridge come out of the restaurant and try to figure out what’s happening. The end credits of the movie roll.

In the first installment of Jumanji, which was released in 1995, we saw how wild animals, Jungle scenes, and rivers had taken over Alan Parrish’s (Robin Williams) home. Something similar happens this time with the ostriches from Jumanji crossing over to the real world. This obviously has many implications.

It is quite clear the game was not destroyed this time by the quartet because Milo had stayed back in Jumanji. Something must have happened that caused the crossover of ostriches from there. We are never told about it. But we can say there to try najlepsze kasyno online.

This presents huge opportunities in terms of options that are left open. We can get a ‘Jumanji Universe’ where we can have a sequel to the movie, or it can also be converted into a series of spinoffs or standalone movies. The origin of the game has never been shown, and it could serve as a fascinating story. It can also lead to the real-world characters finally meeting their Jumanji avatars, teaming up or against them for some really exciting adventure. Overall, The Jumanji canon holds a lot of fire for the future.
