Monkey Man’s Deleted Scenes Include Alternate Ending: British actor Dev Patel recently made his directorial debut with “Monkey Man.” The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised its acting, action sequences, script, cinematography, and technical aspects. However, according to Patel, something was lacking in the film, which had the potential to enhance it even more.

Monkey Man’s ending could have been different, with deleted scenes that would have changed the entire outcome of the film. The filmmaker revealed that some of his best-directed scenes didn’t make it to the final cut. For instance, the original ending involved a different introduction for the villain, which emphasized the complexity of the storytelling in the film more.

Monkey Man’s Deleted Scenes has an alternate ending that could have made the film entirely different

“Monkey Man” is a 2024 action thriller film directed, co-written, and co-produced by Dev Patel. The actor also stars in the film as the titular character, Kid. The film’s synopsis reads:

“A young man ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he’s beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, he discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”

The film garnered praise from the critics for all sorts of good reasons. However, the ending has been the root of discussion around the movie as it did not initially end the way that the final theatrical cut does. In an interview with Collider, Patel revealed that the ending could have been very different. Several deleted scenes would have completely changed the ending. Moreover, Patel believes that those scenes were the best ones that he shot.

Patel said,

“There’s a lot. Actually, I think some of my best directed stuff, like compositionally, didn’t make it in the cut. That was hard… I think we’re going to chuck the deleted scenes out there on the DVD extras. There’s a whole alternate beginning and a whole alternate ending. It ended differently. The villain had a whole different intro, which was unbelievable. But, you know, it went.”

Hopefully, the unreleased ending of “Monkey Man” will be released someday. During the same interview, Patel emphasized that the deleted scene should be available on the DVD extras alongside other deleted scenes from the movie. According to him, the extras will also feature a different introduction for the villain. There are likely other cut scenes scattered across the movie’s timeline. While the film is an entertainment package in itself, these unreleased scenes may serve as a bonus for the fans.
