Is Melissa a Victim or a Villain in the Clark Family’s Life?
The story revolves around the married couple Michelle and Will Clark. Their live-in nanny, Charlotte, is comatose after a man pushes her down a hill. The Clarks are looking for a replacement. Will works at his father’s firm. He is upset after being withheld from the promotion at his job. Michelle, on the other hand, works as an event manager. She is tasked with arranging a party for Will’s dad. Dejected from the series of missteps at his work, Will turns up at a bar to drink, where he meets Melissa. They drink the night away. Melissa shows interest in him, but Will tries to keep his distance. While heading out of the bar, Melissa kisses Will. This kiss gets surreptitiously captured on the camera by a mysterious man.
When Michelle and Lucy, her daughter, visit the park, they meet Melissa. Melissa introduces herself as a nanny who is currently searching for a job. Michelle readily agrees to appoint her. The next day, Melissa arrives at the Clark household. She is shocked to find a photo of Michelle and Will and realizes she has been set up to cause havoc on the family. Melissa gets along with Michelle and Lucy very well.
When Will returns from his work trip, he is scandalized to see Melissa at their house. In a flashback, it is revealed that Melissa has been getting threats of eviction by her landlord. In return for arranging a place for her mother at a retirement home and covering her medical expenses, the man asks Melissa for a small favor. This is the same man who was seen taking photos of Melissa and Will outside the bar.
Did Carlton’s Betrayal Lead to Murder?
Will orders Melissa to leave the family, but she begs to stay because she is desperate for money. At a house party, Melissa meets the man who had set her up to go after the family. He is Carltn, Will’s brother. Carlton and Will were once very close. They have had a fallout following Carlton blackmailing his brother’s clients. Carlton, on the other hand, sends Melissa a photo of her mother sleeping and threatens her to follow his demands to keep her mother safe. Following Carlton’s instructions, Melissa breaks into their office room and steals a key labelled as ‘Richard’s House’.
Using the key, Carlton breaks into his father’s house, but, to his surprise, his father has not left for the dinner party. As he tries to alter his father’s pills, his father catches him. Carlton accuses his father of favoring Will more. He confesses that he has hacked his emails to find out that his father has given control of their company to Will. When Richard, Carlton’s father, stands by his decision to give preference to Will over Carlton, Carlton accuses Will of cheating with Melissa. Carlton has still not moved past Will’s betrayal in pursuing a relationship with Michelle, who, Carlton believes, was in love with Carlton. This causes Richard a great trauma. Carlton watches as his father falls to his knees and succumbs to a cardiac arrest.
Can Melissa and Will Escape Carlton’s Deadly Grip?
The next morning, Michelle and Will learn of Richard’s death. Michelle and Melissa start getting to know each other. Melissa learns that Carlton is not very close to the couple and is not very reliable. She also arranges for a quick transfer of her mother from Carlton’s retirement home. The nurse at Carlton’s retirement home is taken aback to find Carlton monitoring Melissa’s mother illegally through installed cameras.
As the nurse disperses after her shift, Carlton waits for a chance to pounce on her. He kills the nurse by hitting her head from the back with a heavy object. The next day, when Melissa arrives to visit her mother, she finds that Carlton has manipulated her mother well. Carlton threatens to kill Melissa’s mother should she try to look for another retirement home and move out of Will’s house. When Melissa argues that there is no reason why she should continue being there, he forces Melissa to stay put.
Melissa even tries to report the police, but Carlton sneaks up on her after having a GPS tracker fitted to her car. Carlton shows her the pills that he has stolen from Melissa’s mother, without which she would die. Melissa spots Michelle at the retirement home. After Richard’s will declaration session, Carlton accuses Will of hitting on Melissa and warns him that his involvement with Melissa would bring scandal to their company. Will understands that Carlton is manipulating him. While Michelle is out, Will asks Melissa to move out of the house soon. Both of them look for an opportunity to come out clean to Michelle.
How does Michelle find out about Will and Melissa?
The next morning, Carlton calls Michelle and asks her to meet in person to have an important talk. They meet at a park, and Carlton tells Melissa that Will is having a secret affair. He shows her the photographs that he had taken secretly at the bar. Initially, Michelle refuses to believe Carlton, but she loses her cool when she looks at the photographs.
Michelle arrives at the house and furiously dismisses Melissa. Melissa tries to explain herself, but Michelle has none of it. Will tries to apologize, but Michelle throws him out of the house. Melissa arrives at Carlton’s house and asks him not to hurt her mother. She figured out that Carlton had set up this entire plan to have Michelle and the company for himself. Carlton asks Mellissa to steal the keys to Richard’s country house as a last favor.
How do Michelle and Melissa team up?
When Melissa arrives at Michelle’s house, the latter refuses to entertain her. Melissa gives her the entire picture and reveals that the mastermind behind the elaborate plan is Carlton. Melissa reveals that Carlton showed up at a time when Melissa was struggling to pay the medical expenses and care for her mother. It was Carlton who blackmailed Melissa and forced her to seduce Will. Although Will was largely determined to avoid Melissa, Melissa took advantage of his tipsy state and forced him into kissing her so that Carlton could take photos. Melissa also tells Michelle about her doubts that Carlton might be the one who has attacked Charlotte. She also tells her that Carlton might be the one who has killed Richard. Michelle hatches a plan to catch Carlton.

Carlton takes Melissa and arrives at Will’s house to finish him off. As he tries to pull out the gun, Michelle arrives and tells Carlton that she is here to call off her marriage. She buys more time until the police arrive by professing her false affection for Carlton. Carlton mistakenly reveals that he was there when Richard died. He also confesses to having caused Charlotte to fall.
The police, who have been eavesdropping, arrive at this point and arrest Carlton. Carlton tries a last attempt to evade by holding a knife at Michelle’s throat. But he is arrested anyhow. Michelle forgives Melissa, and the two let things go by hugging it out. She understands that Melissa was helpless and was forced to be here by Carlton. In the end, Charlotte is back with the family and celebrates Lucy’s ninth birthday. Melissa, too, has happily moved on with her life after testifying against Carlton.
