My Perfect Stranger AKA Run Into You (Season 1), Episode 4 Recap

โ€œAll this is a coincidence?โ€

The episode continues in 1987, with Yoon Young and Hae Joon discussing the incident. As much as they want to share why they are here, they aren’t ready to share the reasons. It is three days before the murder occurs, and Hae Joon realizes that the past he knew about is already changing. Because of the incident with Yoon Young, the accused, Min Soo, the murderer, has already been arrested, and he wonders what will take place now. He is not able to decipher what Yoon Young is hiding from him.

At the police station, Hae Joon gives his statement about the incident, and Dong Sik tells Hae Joon that Min Soo is not revealing anything. Hae Joon is glad to hear that because that will make him remain in custody longer. He asks Min Soo to stay quiet and remain in his prison cell for a week which will either prove his guilt or innocence of murder. Min Soo gets triggered, not understanding what Hae Joon is talking about.

Yoon Young cannot understand what the Bong Bong Teahouse box means to Hae Joon. With every flicker of light, Yoon Young is afraid as she is traumatized by the incident. Hae Joon takes her to ‘H teahouse’ to grab a bite. She says she has no appetite, but after Yoon Young gobbles up some bread, she reveals to Hae Joon that she worked at a publishing house in 2021. She apologizes to him for putting him in a pickle. He explains to her that Min Soo is the one who created a mess and not her and promises her that he will not let such things happen again.

Mi Seok comes home to find things haywire; all her mother tells her to do is clean up and not mention anything to anyone. Yoon Young woke up to find a note from Hae Joon instructing her to apply ointment on her wounds and visit Soon Ae’s house, and he had to leave home early as he had things to take care of.

Soon Ae’s house is chaotic as not one individual can function properly without Soon Ae’s mother. Yoon Young is overwhelmed seeing Soon Ae’s family recognizing every one of them. Hae Joon asks Bum Ryung to give him the Bong Bong Teahouse box that he had with him. Bum Ryung informs Hae Joon that it’s a trend that is going on to propose to girls by writing a letter in the box and giving it to them. Hae Joon is annoyed because of the complication the box brings. Bum Ryung hid an envelope in the washroom, and Hae Joon tried to find clues. Hae Joon was already aware of why Bum Ryung was suspected of murder.

Soon Ae apologizes to Yoon Young, who was behaving rudely the previous day. Talking to Soon Ae made Yoon Young realize her mother from 2021 loved to write, and hence she would write apology letters even though she would do it in person. Hae Joon rummages through Hee Seop’s bag to find the Bong Bong Teahouse box, and Hee Seop tells Hae Joon that his brother has given him that. Hae Joon asks him if his brother still has the key. The students are on a field trip, and Hae Joon realizes that Hee Seop does not have a packed lunch and gives him money to buy food and drinks for himself and the other students. This gesture moves Hee Seop.

Soon Ae tells Yoon Young that she only wants to read books, listen to music, and sip coffee. These words made her realize that her mother lived her dreams through her, and she promised to give her mother her dreams to the young Soon Ae. Yoon Young is late, and Mi Sook seems happy to realize that. Hee Seop wonders how Hae Joon knew about the key to the lock. Yoon Young notices Soon Ae running up the hill and becomes captivated. Yoon Young tries to catch up with them to climb the hill together but fails due to exhaustion. Hae Joon discovers Yoon Young lying down, and she lightens the mood with humorous remarks. Soon Ae tells Hee Seop that she likes guys who can sing, so he plays the guitar on the field trip to impress her.

Hae Joon keeps an eye on Hee Seop and Bum Ryung. He also notices the teahouse matchboxes everywhere. The chairman brings Lee Ju Young (Jung Ga Hee), the first victim of the murder. Yoon Young finds Ju Young familiar. She was appointed as the student teacher for a month. Hae Joon asks to be in charge of Ju Young so he can keep an eye on her. The chairman thinks that Hae Joon looks like a younger version of him. Soon Ae admits to Yoon Young being her friend.

A fellow student gives Yoon Young and Soon Ae teahouse matchboxes saying they are from their admirers. As she observes her surroundings, Yoon Young wonders how she could have found something 30 years old in 2021. She was hoping Hae Joon would know something. Hae Joon gives his number to Ju Young and asks her to call him if Ju Young needs anything. She lies about living with her relatives.

Yoon Young confronts Mi Sook, seeking information about her vulnerability. Mi Sook reveals that her weak point is Soon Ae. Yoon Young is perplexed when she questions her thoughts about having a brother in prison, hinting that Yoon Young must assess whether Mi Sook will exploit her weakness.

Hae Joon decides to tell Yoon Young the truth about the murders, and Yoon Young finds it strange in 1987. Hae Joon receives a distressing call about Ju Young’s disappearance. Yoon Young recalls a novel by Mi Sook from 2021 that eerily mirrors their current situation. Hae Joon, no longer in prison, is nowhere to be found. Worried, Yoon Young searches for Hae Joon and questions him about Ju Young’s fate. Hae Joon wonders how she knows about it before it happens. In the final scene, Yoon Young suggests they join forces to unravel the mysteries, realizing their meeting in 1987 is no coincidence.
