Zhang Yimou is the filmmaker who understands the art of action combats better than others. The Chinese masterโ€™s next film โ€œShadowโ€ is right up his alley and the visually appealing new trailer is nothing short of a gift for his fans.

Yimouโ€™s last, the disastrous and disappointing, โ€œThe Great Wallโ€ which starred Matt Damon, probably made him realize where his roots lie. In the new trailer of โ€œShadowโ€, he has brought back his traditional martial arts cinema and it will remind one of his more promising projects such as โ€œHeroโ€ and โ€œHouse of Flying Daggersโ€.

With scenes that are gorgeously choreographed, โ€˜Shadowโ€™ is a period drama and Zhang Yimou has reimagined the ancient classic tale of the โ€œThree Kingdomโ€ in his new film.

โ€œReferred to as โ€˜shadows,โ€™ body doubles have existed since ancient times,โ€ Yimou told Venice Film Festival. โ€œA shadow must be ready to spring into action at that critical moment when his masterโ€™s life hangs in the balance; a shadow must seamlessly meld with the real, so that true and false canโ€™t be distinguished. Is he a man, standing in the light? Or a ghost, hiding in the darkness? Who will live? Who will die?โ€ told Zhang Yimou to the Venice Film Festival.

The film stars Deng Chao as the lead and also has Sun Li, Zheng Kai, Wang Qianyuan, Wang Jingchun, Hu Jun, Guan Xiaotong, and Wu Leo in the cast.
