However, Piast refuses to take on the job. However, after the professor’s death, Piast takes it upon himself to perfect the universe. At present, Piast agrees to let Badeni and the group access the vault, but only on the condition that they can either prove/disprove the geocentric model based on Venus’ observations. Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 9 “This Is What It Means…..To Learn Something, I think” Recap:
The episode begins with Count Piast seeing something unusual in the night sky. In a flashback, we see a middle-aged Piast’s conversation with the professor. After working with the professor for twenty years, the professor gives Piast the key to the archival vault containing all the universe’s documents and observations. In one of the books, Piast sees double epicycles and is amazed. Until now, the professor believed he was the one to find the truth, but now the professor thinks it’s Piast who can perfect the universe and is the chosen one. The professor believes this way because, in terms of observations, theories, calculations, and imagination, Piast is superior to the professor. When the professor asks Piast to take on the task, Piast is unsure. So, the professor asks Piast to think about it.
What is Piast’s condition to give access to the vault?
While contemplating the decision, Piast sees something in the night and refuses to believe what he has seen. After the incident, he meets the professor and tells him that he cannot take on the task of perfecting the universe. Despite the refusal, the professor asks Piast to return if he changes his mind. Five years later, the professor is on his deathbed and starts to cry as he couldn’t perfect the universe after dedicating his life to it. The professor also thinks he has wasted his life. Piast gets angry and says that the professor’s theory is not wrong. Before taking his last breath, the professor asks Piast to tell him the truth in heaven. That’s how Piast took it upon himself to perfect the universe.
In the present, Count Piast agrees to let Badeni and the group access the vault on one condition. Long ago, Piast saw Venus in its last phase. According to the geocentric model, Earth is in the center, and Venus also revolves around the Earth. Venus can be illuminated from the Sun in specific directions, so the shape of Venus is always incomplete. Seeing Venus’s last phase means Venus and other planets revolve around the Sun. If this is true, then the geocentric model can’t be proved. However, if that is not the case, then Heliocentrism will be ruled out. That night, there will be a conclusion to this problem.
Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 9 “This Is What It Means…..To Learn Something, I think” Ending Explained:
Before that, Piast tests Oczy on his vision, which Oczy passes. That night, Oczy worries that Piast will refuse to believe him if Venus completes its final phase. So Badeni says that whatever Piast believes, Badeni will know the truth. Furthermore, Oczy feels burdened as the night will change how the universe is perceived. Despite that, Oczy wants to see Venus complete its phase. After watching the sky, Oczy sees Venus as a whole. However, Piast refuses to believe it and says that even if Oczy is not lying, it only proves that Venus is revolving around the Sun, and that need not be the case for the other planets and Earth. Now, Badeni asks if a stubborn human is above the truth. So Badeni questions Piast what he would call something that acts mercilessly and without prejudice. So Piast says it’s the truth.
Will Piast accept Oczy’s observations?
Immediately, Piast hands Badeni the key to the vault and starts to cry. Piast has spent many years on the subject, and yet there is a chance it is flawed. While giving the key, Piast says that the vault contains two thousand years’ worth of research. Since Badeni and Oczy don’t work in the institution, Badeni asks Oczy to take the required documents to Badeni’s workplace.
However, Badeni says he wishes Jolenta would not continue on the mission anymore. In the future, if Badeni gets arrested, it’s best for Jolenta to pretend not to know anything. So Jolenta agrees. Before leaving, Oczy asks Jolenta what it feels like to know how to read. Jolenta says it feels like a miracle as something written now or long ago can make someone happy or sad. Later that night, while watching the sky, Piast falls to the ground and is ready to meet his professor in heaven.
Unfortunately, in the end, Jolenta will not continue to work on the research. However, there is a chance for Badeni to take Jolenta’s help, which can change Jolenta’s life. Ultimately, Piast dies but has trusted and left the years of research in Badeni’s hands. Until now, Badeni seemed to be selfish, but with this wealth of knowledge and Piast’s death, hopefully, Badeni would change. Now that Oczy is interested in studying, Jolenta may help Oczy by teaching him how to read and write. In the next few episodes, we will see how Badeni and Oczy will prove the geocentric model wrong and make observations to prove Heliocentrism.
