Lies, lies, and more lies! Palm Royale Episode 6 digs at the socialite circle, exploring how these people are just a bunch of glitz and glamor with no spine, no originality, and, of course, no money. The competition is high, reputation is at stake, and everyone wants to be the winner. However, it seems like our Maxine is too innocent to understand how this big whirlpool of posh and fake royalties has a way of surviving and thriving.
As I predicted, the series now explores the aftermath of what Maxine thought was a gate to her freedom. In the latest episode, we see Evelyn taking center stage and knocking sense into Maxine and Linda, who are trying to pave their own way in Palm Beach Town. In this article, I explain Douglas’s motives, Linda’s true personality, Evelyn’s wisdom, and Maxine’s learning new schemes of living the ‘lavish life.’ Please note that the article contains spoilers; proceed at your own risk.
Palm Royale Episode 6 “Maxine Takes a Step” Recap:
As the title suggests, now seems to be the time Maxine really needs to take a step to move ahead in this never-ending ladder of poshness. The episode opens with Evelyn and Maxine inside a spacecraft simulator during their visit to NASA. By the way, this episode also shows how time is constantly evolving and how the country has made an attempt to reach the moon.
Inside the simulator, Maxine ecstatically shares with Evelyn that they are now free from all the guilt after when she threw away Norma’s gun in the ocean, and Linda burnt the Rolodex. Instead of getting a sigh of relief from Evelyn, Maxine witnesses her friend completely losing her shit, coming up with a mouthful of slang for her, stating how Maxine has brought in more chaos in Palm Beach.
On her way out of NASA, Maxine also realizes that nobody is really interested in coming to her Beach Ball just to see her unless she has something really exciting planned for the residents. In the meantime, Douglas is up to his own world. We see him teaming up with Perry, planning to build luxurious condos, and for that, he would need to shell out a pile of money from Norma’s estate.
Why does Evelyn yell at Linda?
When Maxine learns that the prince of Luxembourg and his wife are part of Douglas’ and Perry’s condo deal, she requests her husband to ask them to appear as her marquee guest. However, Douglas diverts the conversation, saying it’s only a boys’ dinner night. Maxine thinks that Douglas has an idea about her and Robert’s flirtation, but Robert is quick to reassure Maxine about the whole ordeal by stating he hasn’t shared anything with her husband.
On the other hand, Virginia found evidence related to Perry bribing inspectors for the condo commission, and she is confident that this revelation will lead the group to bring down Nixon and the people in position. As the women rejoice over the news, Evelyn enters the store, yelling at Linda about the consequences that will follow from her actions. She warns Linda that saving herself has jeopardized everyone’s life in the town.
When Maxine decides to visit Douglas at the club hall, she sees him hanging out with Perry, Dinah, the Prince of Luxembourg, and his wife. Dinah immediately notices an upset Maxine (dressed in a Luxembourg flag dress) and takes her to the ladies’ room. Before Maxine can express herself, Dinah shares that she is only there until the deal gets finalized because Perry apparently knows about her affair with Eddie, and she is thinking of divorcing him. This is when Maxine shares her flirtation with Robert. However, Dinah reminds her that Robert is gay.
Why does Skeet ask for Linda’s forgiveness?
In the meantime, Linda tells her father that she is now a free person as Norma’s gun is lying somewhere in the ocean. Skeet is happy to hear this and tells her that he is tired of being a veggie in a hospice and would like to leave soon. He shares with his daughter that things have taken a huge turn. He even apologizes for everything that has happened in the past and asks for Linda’s forgiveness.
Later, when Evelyn visits Skeet, the couple gets into their usual tiff where Skeet reminds his wife of her place as he ‘threatens’ her that he will ‘bloody take good care’ of her once he is off, considering how she has been using their money to take care of her ‘personal’ business.
The following day, Douglas tells his wife to visit the bank in order to write some checks that are essential for his business with Perry. Later, at the sauna, when Ann questions Maxine about her pageant days for the article that she is writing, Maxine literally has no concrete answer to it. This is when Mary also demands the 75K$ Maxine owes her for the benefit. Maxine rushes off to the bank and writes checks for both Douglas’ requests and Mary’s demands.
Did Virginia and Linda have a fallout?
On the other hand, Virginia is mad at Linda for burning the Rolodex as it would have been useful in taking down the wealthy individuals who have been exploiting the vulnerable ones. Despite Linda being apologetic about her actions, it seems like Virginia has realized Linda’s true personality, i.e., saving her own ass first and throwing others under the bus. She also lets Linda know that people only visit the bookstore or even attend the group meetings because of Linda’s presence and the money she puts into this club.
Back at the spacecraft launch party, Maxine meets the Luxembourg prince and his wife, who are happier taking the condo check into their hands than attending the gala event in honor of their name. Despite Maxine’s multiple requests, the duo are adamant about declining the offer, stating their shy nature. In my opinion, they are not what they pose to be, but Palm Royale is good at keeping things juicy and spicy for the upcoming tsunami.
Why does Evelyn make Maxine feel bad?
Feeling out of place and dejected because the prince and princess of Luxembourg declined her sweet offer to attend the gala event, Maxine stumbles upon Evelyn, who is not very happy to see her. Evelyn has always seen Maxine for who she really is, considering she, too, hails from the same background. It took her a lot of work and time to be at the place where she is; however, ever since Maxine entered Palm Beach, things have always been way off the charts, especially now, considering Maxine let her intrusive thoughts take the lead on the sensitive and well-hidden secrets.
Palm Royale Episode 6 “Maxine Takes a Step” Ending Explained –
Who is Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons?
Later, Ann finds Maxine completely done with Palm Beach’s never-ending bullshit. Ann tells her that upon her research, she found out that all the pageant winners Maxine has mentioned in the records are actually dead women’s names from way before her birth. This is when we learn that Maxine grew up an orphan and was really interested in reading about socialites printed in the tabloid section. She was hopeful and adamant about living such a life one day.
So she picked up names from here and there and went on to become winners of those pageants. However, little did she know that the socialite life is not as glamorous as it is always made out to be. Maxine even says that Ann can go ahead and print everything she likes, but Ann reminds her that nobody would be interested in reading such a boring piece. She hugs her and leaves. It seems like when Maxine thought she had no friends in town, Ann and Robert come along, always having her best interests at heart.
What happens to Skeet?
Back at the hospice, Linda visits her father again, but this time she brings some LSD with her. The father and daughter duo take the drugs, tripping on the cosmic lights and experiences as they watch the live spacecraft launch broadcasted on the TV. Skeet, who had been in a sort of vegetative state for quite some time, finally lets go of Linda’s hand as he slips away in his sleep, leaving Linda crying on his shoulder after his passing. We also see Evelyn sobbing quietly in the distance, observing Linda grieving Skeet’s death.
How does Robert help Maxine?
When Robert finds out that Perry’s condo is undergoing a scandalous event in a newspaper article (due to Virginia’s showdown), he takes the news up with Douglas, who leaves the party to sort things out. Robert takes Maxine back home, and this is when things get a bit ‘clearer’ for Maxine. Robert brings out all the handwritten invitation letters that Norma had written before to invite people to the ball event.
It turns out that Norma wrote cryptic notes on these invitation letters that brought people to the event with piles of extra cash to keep their secrets well hidden. These ball events that people usually conduct raise a lot of money for the cause, but only a selected portion goes under the honorable name, and the rest goes straight into the host’s pocket. So Robert suggests Maxine send out these invitation cards to everyone in town so the ball night could take place.
The ending of Palm Royale Episode 6 shows Maxine finally taking the invitation box to the nearest postal box and sending out all the invitation cards. Meanwhile, we also see Robert hooking up with the prince of Luxembourg at the Dellacorte mansion. The end sequence also shows Norma finally taking her steps, reaching the gun cabinet in her house, and finally uttering her first clear word—revolver!
Will there be a 50th beach ball at the Dellacorte mansion? Will Norma start spilling tea now that she can talk? Will Douglas face consequences after Perry’s failed condo deal? Will Maxine wear the beach ball tiara as she always hoped for? And most importantly, is Linda really free from jail time considering things are just piling up one after the other?
