Push (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
The film opens with Natalie hanging out with her boyfriend, who asks Natalie to move to America with him. In 1993, Natalie eloped from Barcelona to Michigan. Sadly, the romance is short-lived as Natalie’s boyfriend dies in a car accident. Natalie is now eight months pregnant. Since Natalie is a realtor, she hosts an open house at a huge mansion built in the 1890s. The problem is that there are many spooky tales about the property, which has deterred many potential buyers. Still, Natalie needed to make money, and she isn’t easily spooked, so she agrees to sell the mansion. Inside, Natalie cleans up a bit so the place looks presentable.
The day goes by without a single person showing up. As Natalie is about to leave, she feels queasy because of her pregnancy. So Natalie heads back inside the mansion. There is a sudden knock on the door, so Natalie opens the door but can’t find anyone outside. Once Natalie comes back inside, a man is standing by a window. Seeing another human scares Natalie briefly. The man is a ‘Client’. Although the sun is about to set, Natalie decides to show the Client around the house. After looking around for a bit, the Client asks about the place. Now, Natalie is honest that long ago, the owners of the house were murdered inside the mansion, so people are spooked.
Who is Guy?
The Client says he feels the owners are clinging to the house, unwilling to leave. However, Natalie says she does not believe in these things. The Client insists Natalie should, as that’s the reason nobody else came to the open house. Hearing this, Natalie is uncomfortable as she can’t understand how the Client knew no one else showed up. So, Natalie asks the Client to leave.
After the Client leaves, Natalie gets into her own car to leave, but the vehicle does not start. Once again, Natalie heads back inside and calls the car repairman, Guy. While waiting, Natalie puts on a record, but the player does not work. So, Natalie plays the piano. There is a knock on the door, and when Natalie checks, there is no one outside.
Suddenly, the turntable is working. Before Natalie can process this, the phone rings. When Natalie receives the call, she can’t hear anyone on the other end. A while later, Guy arrives and says he called earlier, but no one received. Additionally, Guy asks Natalie if she was meddling with her car as a bolt has been stripped off. Suddenly, Natalie feels uneasy, so she rushes to the washroom, leaving the guy to deal with the car. Someone walks near Guy as Natalie leaves. Inside the washroom, Natalie starts humming a song for her child. The lights in the mansion begin to flicker. Now, Natalie lights a candle and turns on a switch in the switchboard; the lights in an adjacent room turn on. However, the place seems like a cave, so Natalie leaves.
How does Natalie get the phone connection back?
Outside, Natalie reaches the car, and she can’t find Guy anywhere. Inside the house, Natalie hears water running, so she thinks Guy is there, but there is nobody. In another room, Natalie hears a music box. After switching the box off, Natalie turns around and gets scared as Guy is in a corner, dead. To make things worse, Natalie’s water breaks. Suddenly, Natalie sees a shadow appear, along with boot sounds coming up the stairs. So, Natalie goes to the terrace, breaks a tile, keeps the piece, calls the elevator, and enters. As the elevator closes, Natalie sees the Client and is shocked. On one floor, Natalie fights the Client off and tries to go back up again, but the elevator stops before reaching a floor. With some difficulty, Natalie climbs up and runs out of the mansion.
Outside, Natalie cannot find the keys to Guy’s car. At that time, Natalie finds the Client’s car. Inside, Natalie sees that all the open house boards are stacked. In the trunk, Natalie finds a dead body. The Client is now outside, so Natalie rushes back inside and locks the door behind her. The Client from the other side tells Natalie that he knows the house better than her, and he will cut the baby out of Natalie.
Hearing this, Natalie is scared, so she locks all the doors and windows. When Natalie hears a window shatter, she pulls out a house plan and sees a way to the telephone breaker. So, Natalie crawls through the passage in the basement and turns the telephone line on despite the Client right behind her. Immediately, Natalie rushes back inside and calls the emergency services.
Is Natalie alive?
However, Natalie lures the Client to the kitchen and plans to attack him from behind. Just as Natalie makes her way towards the Client, the floorboard creaks. Still, Natalie makes a move, but both she and the Client fall out of the window. Thankfully, Natalie falls on the Client, which saves her baby. Slowly, Natalie tries to walk away from the Client. Sadly, a glass shard pierces through Natalie’s feet.
Still, Natalie pulls it out and makes her way outside, but falls to the ground from exhaustion. When Natalie wakes up, two police officers help her. So, Natalie tells the cops that the Client is in the house. One officer helps Natalie to the car, and the other enters the mansion. The communication is lost, so the other officer enters the house and finds the first officer dead.
Now, Natalie knows something is wrong, so she takes the cop’s gun and frees herself while gunshots are fired from inside the mansion. The Client has brutally killed the other officer. Meanwhile, Natalie makes her way to the backyard to the store room. There, Natalie gives birth to her son, cuts the umbilical cord with her teeth, and pulls out her placenta. The baby starts to cry, and the Client follows the sound of the baby to reach Natalie.
Before entering the storeroom, the Client spits on a grave (probably the owner’s). When the Client enters, Natalie fires at him from the other side. The recoil pushes Natalie to the ground. The next time Natalie opens her eyes, she’s in the hospital. The doctor tells Natalie that she has a minor concussion, and when she is feeling better, Natalie needs to identify a man.
Push (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
The baby is in the ICU, and Natalie rushes to see her son. Later, Natalie identifies the Client who is also hospitalized due to the wounds. The cop reveals that the Client escaped from the psych ward 72 hours before. The Client said the house called out to him. Since the Client has burned off his fingertips, they can’t identify who he is.
The Client claims he is Gabriel Marquez, the original owner’s son, who was born in 1929. If that’s the case, the man should be over 60 years old, but that does not seem to be the case. The Client thinks that as long as the house is standing, so will he. The cop realises Natalie’s desire to kill the Client, so Natalie is taken away. Later, a fire emergency is switched on, so Natalie rushes to the other ward with a scalpel.
There, Natalie takes the keys from a doctor without his knowledge. Now, Natalie enters the Client’s room to kill but finds that three cops are dead. The chase between Natalie and the Client continues. The chase leads them to the ICU, where Natalie’s son is. This time, Natalie stabs the Client continuously to ensure he is dead.
After that, Natalie takes her son and leaves the hospital. In the post-credit scene, we see the Client on a slab in the morgue. The light above the Client starts to flicker, and so do the lights in the mansion. Suddenly, the Client gasps for air, and the music box in the mansion begins to play, accompanied by the whole house, which is now bathed in flickering lights.
The ending makes the whole thing a supernatural affair. It is also likely that Natalie is the one who pushed the emergency button to kill the Client. Until then, it seemed like an unbalanced person going on a killing spree, but even after Natalie brutally stabbed the Client to death, he came back alive. If the theory of the Client’s mortality depends on the survival of the mansion, then the right thing to do is to burn down the mansion.
The theory connecting to the previous one is that Gabriel’s spirit has gone into the Client’s body, which is making the man do all kinds of things to ensure the mansion is left alone. Gabriel may have some attachment to the house, which is making him unwilling to leave this world. We don’t know how Gabriel’s spirit entered the Client’s body.
One issue with Gabriel’s attachment is that it appears he had a strained relationship with his parents, as evidenced by the Client spitting on Gabriel’s parents’ grave. If there is a sequel, Gabriel’s history, as well as Natalie’s, can be revisited to explore her return to fight the Client.
