Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 1, “Return” Recap:
The episode opens with Enrique interviewing Federico Seligman, who states he isn’t afraid of public opinion since he’ll be dead when the interview airs. Additionally, Federico admits some may criticize him, while others may say his children deserve it. The reason Federico is taking action is because his children have misused the newspaper ‘El Baltico’, which he dedicated his life to. Two weeks earlier, Federico’s son, Andrés, who now runs the paper, is informed of an upcoming audit for embezzlement. Immediately, Andrés alerts his sister, Yolanda, and they approach their politician sister, Guadalupe, for help. Though Guadalupe initially refuses, Andrés reminds her that her husband, Manuel, benefits from the fraud. Meanwhile, Federico returns home after two years of battling pancreatic cancer, accompanied by his wife and youngest daughter, Lara, who is the others’ half-sister. On the flight, Federico is in business class, while Lara sits in economy with Luis, a company employee.
The two begin dating. During a party, Yolanda spots the Financial Minister and urges Guadalupe to speak to him. During their conversation, the Minister asks if Guadalupe regrets tipping off the government—this is partly overheard by a spy reporting to Federico. When Federico tries to confront his children, Yolanda derails the conversation about her open marriage. Later, Guadalupe gives the siblings a recording of the Minister’s sexist remarks to use as leverage to stop the audit. Later, Federico agrees to an interview with Enrique, but when Enrique brings up a murdered journalist, Bruno, it enrages Federico. Now, Federico warns that many, including politicians, could be exposed if the truth comes out.
Why does Federico do the interview?
Unfortunately, Enrique refuses to proceed without addressing Bruno’s death. At a protest, a young man glares at Federico. Soon after, Federico meets the paper’s Chairman and learns that most higher-ups are complicit in the fraud. Later, Federico confronts Andrés, who explains the paper’s digital model has brought challenges, leading them to fake subscriber numbers to attract investors. They blackmailed the Minister to halt the audit. Meanwhile, the protester is seen watching Lara at college. Now, Luis, who is dating Lara, is also hooking up with Yolanda. Finally, the Minister reveals that Guadalupe tipped off the government to protect Manuel, whom his partners had tricked. A lifelong law-abiding, Federico chooses to go public about everything happening in the company through the interview with Enrique.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 2, “Punish” Recap:
The episode opens with Federico playing his legacy interview for his children, hoping they’ll fix their mistakes. After that, Federico delivers an ultimatum: Andrés must resign, and Guadalupe must divorce Manuel—so he doesn’t freeload—or leave politics. Enraged, the siblings devise a plan to frame Federico as mentally unfit. So, Manuel will handle the lawyer, while Andrés takes care of the rest. At college, Leon, the boy from the protest, strategically pairs himself with Lara for a project, using it as an excuse to visit her home. Although Leon flirts with her, Lara clarifies she’s dating Luis. Meanwhile, Lola (Federico’s first wife) informs Commissioner Vargas about the legacy interview, asking for it to be destroyed.
Elsewhere, Yolanda resigns as the Director of the Seligman Foundation, making a fool of herself at the press event. At the newspaper office, Federico gives editorial advice, which angers Andrés. Now, Federico presents a polished resignation letter for Andrés, but Andrés retaliates by accusing him of hypocrisy, reminding him he once refused to publish Bruno’s story. So, Andrés asks Federico to face the consequences of the legacy interview while still alive. Meanwhile, Manuel begins building an extravagant house, unsettling Guadalupe. The prospect of Guadalupe leaving him terrifies Manuel. Later, Andrés meets with Dr. Milia and blackmails her into falsely diagnosing Federico with dementia. So, Milia calls Federico for neurological testing. Later, Lara and Luis sleep together. At work, Guadalupe faces challenges.
How does Federico punish Andrés?
After college, Leon visits Lara and sneaks into Federico’s office under the pretence of using the bathroom, searching for something. At the hospital, Federico receives shocking news: the legacy office has been ransacked, and all data has been erased. Now, Federico suspects his children. During El Globo’s (another newspaper) 100th-anniversary party, Federico sees Andrés arguing with Milia. There, Yolanda realizes Luis is dating Lara. Drunk and emotionally vulnerable, Yolanda tells Ricardo she’s unhappy in their open marriage, and the two grow intimate. After the party, Milia reveals Andrés’s scheme to Federico. In response, Federico writes an article exposing his son and gives it to Juan Luis from El Globo. The article is published that night, prompting the board to call an emergency meeting to remove Andrés.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 3, “Negotiate” Recap:
The episode begins with Federico stopping Manuel’s building construction. At home, Guadalupe arrives and says she is divorcing Manuel, which makes Federico happy. At the office, Andrés tries to get Aguirre’s help to convince the board not to dismiss him as the newspaper editor. During lunch, Federico expresses his anger towards his kids for trying to frame him as someone with an unstable mind. Now, Federico takes things too far by calling Yolanda talentless. In the car, Ricardo is chatting with a woman he was supposed to meet. Seeing this, Yolanda gets mad as they have discussed that she does not want an open marriage.
Meanwhile, Guadalupe hopes to get a management position at work. Elsewhere, Andrés asks Yolanda to stand up to Federico. Unfortunately, Vargas’s men have beaten up Enrique for the interview. Seeing Enrique, Lola calls Vargas, as he has taken things too far. Even though Enrique is hurt, he wants Federico to publish the interview. At home, Federico calls a government official, Gabriel, asking who beat up Enrique. However, Gabriel does not reveal a name, so Federico warns Gabriel not to make him mad. Now, Guadalupe moves into Lola’s home. At night, Yolanda informs Federico about Andrés’s plans. For a project, Lara and Leon interview Yolanda. Happy to be recognized, Yolanda takes them to a party where they drink and do drugs. Using the opportunity, Leon copies Yolanda’s phone to his to spy on her and her family.
How does Federico’s plan backfire?
Soon, Luis arrives at the party. When Lara isn’t around, Yolanda and Luis make out. Even Lara asks Yolanda to stand up to Federico. Turns out Guadalupe and Manuel are faking the divorce to be on Federico’s good side. The next day, Lara tells Federico she loves him and asks him to give Yolanda a chance. During the board meeting, Andre casually says Federico’s actions deliberately hurt the company. Using this opportunity, some members vote to sue Federico for unfair administration. One among those who voted in favour is Yolanda. It turns out to be a bigger plan as Andrés’s contract will be up in eight months and won’t be renewed. This is Gabriel’s interference. At Guadalupe’s work, her superior informs Guadalupe that the team will give the ministry position to Lola, taking Guadalupe by surprise. It turns out Gabriel and Vargas are working together.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 4, “Farewell” Recap:
The episode opens with Andrés high on drugs, delivering a farewell-like speech to his employees. Meanwhile, Federico is speaking with associates from the Progresso fund when Aguirre arrives, threatening a court case. However, Aguirre offers to drop the case if Federico sells the fund for a profit. The stress causes Federico to lose his voice. In Guadalupe’s house, the police arrest Manuel after discovering numerous human skeletons buried beneath the building site. The one leading the case is Vargas. The problem is that Manuel knew about the remains but proceeded with construction. Sadly, Guadalupe is unaware of this. To get out of the legal mess, Manuel is asked to spy on Federico and find the location of the interview clips.
Elsewhere, Rocio visits Lola to persuade her to become a minister but realizes Guadalupe never informed Lola. Frustrated, Rocio insults Guadalupe, claiming the party uses her for public speeches while shielding themselves. At a hotel, Yolanda and Luis sleep together. Since the hotel is prepaid, Luis invites Lara once Yolanda leaves. At college, Leon’s name is missing from the register. Later, Lola tells Federico that Enrique has opted for euthanasia, and a farewell party is planned. At college, Leon punches Luis, demanding he come clean to Lara about his relationship with Yolanda—or Leon will. Eventually, Federico decides to sell the Progresso fund and seeks family approval. Suddenly, Guadalupe proposes getting the Catalans to make the same offer as Aguirre, keeping the fund out of Aguirre’s control. Later, Luis pretends to be a victim, claiming Yolanda is his boss and threatening his job, convincing Lara not to speak with Yolanda.
Will Guadalupe’s dream of becoming a minister come true?
Before the court session, Rocio and Guadalupe persuade a lawyer to handle Aguirre’s case. At night, Federico visits Enrique, and they share a final passionate kiss. Enrique gives Federico a pen drive to edit his memoir before publishing. At Enrique’s funeral, the lawyer informs Federico that Suárez has dropped the case. The President and Gabriel ask about selling the group to the Catalans, but Federico is indifferent—his only condition being Aguirre’s reassignment. The deal works as Aguirre is relocated to Singapore. Later, Andrés and Blanca get a photo and audio recording of Gabriel, prompting them to investigate. In the end, Federico reveals that Guadalupe will become a minister, as it was a deal made with the President. The episode closes with masked men breaking into Federico’s house, taking some things from Federico’s office, and attacking the caretaker.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 5, “Publish” Recap:
The episode opens with Federico’s wife urging him to upgrade their home security after a break-in. However, Federico remains calm, knowing the intruder wants the interview clippings and will eventually come forward to blackmail him. Meanwhile, Vargas’s men cover the skeletons with cement. With Vargas demanding money, Manuel grows anxious and sees only two options for help: Federico or Guadalupe. At the office, Blanca shares good news—she’s found a witness who may know something about Gabriel/Vargas. The next day, Manuel tries to redeem himself by warning Federico about Vargas. At work, Guadalupe returns, but Rocio and others are unhappy, except for Juanjo, who shows support and believes in Guadalupe.
At a restaurant, Lara confronts Yolanda about her affair with Luis. Now, Yolanda admits to her mistake but clarifies that it was not workplace abuse. Immediately, Yolanda calls her lawyer to sort this out. Meanwhile, Andrés and Blanca meet Dr. Pinos, urging her to expose Gabriel/Vargas by giving her time to consider. Eventually, Federico begins to suspect Vargas is behind Enrique’s attack. Now, Vargas openly blackmails Federico, offering options—none ending well for Federico or his children. Suddenly, Manuel comes to the meeting, and Federico threatens to expose Vargas in his newspaper. But Vargas dares Federico to do it. That night, Andrés and Blanca sleep together, though Blanca senses Andrés still has feelings for his ex. Elsewhere, Luis learns Leon has killed two people. While shooting together, Lara and Leon end up having sex. The gunshots prompt a hiker to call the police, leading to their arrest.
What does Federico learn about Vargas?
Now, Vargas sends Lola to dissuade Federico from publishing the story. Just as Guadalupe is about to take the oath as a minister, Federico calls Vargas and admits defeat. At the same time, Luis tells Yolanda he’s ashamed but doesn’t want her money. Now, Luis offers to walk away if Yolanda wants, but Yolanda kisses him instead—meanwhile, a spy for Vargas photographs Andrés, Blanca, and Pinos. At the police station, Leon confesses to Lara that he burned a building to get revenge on Federico, unaware that two women were inside. At a construction site, Vargas’s men beat Manuel for snitching. Again, Vargas threatens Federico, warning him to stay quiet about Pinos. Finally, Federico learns that Vargas stabbed Dr. Pinos in her car with her son present. Outraged, Federico orders Andrés to publish the story.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 6, “Forgive” Recap:
The episode opens with El Globo airing a segment from the legacy interview, revealing that Andrés committed fraud to secure investment. An hour earlier, Lara questioned Federico about Leon and his brother. Thankfully, Federico tells the truth—Bruno was Leon’s brother and a journalist who died in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Guadalupe cannot reach Manuel. The public believes they’re divorced. At a party, Juanjo kisses Guadalupe, but she pulls away, saying she needs to leave. Later, Rocio informs Guadalupe about Gabriel, so Guadalupe insists they must stop him from becoming the Vice President. Soon after, Guadalupe learns Manuel is in the hospital and rushes there.
Unfortunately, Manuel is badly injured. Back home, Lara searches online for information about Leon’s crime. The next morning, Federico visits Andrés and reveals that Vargas had threatened to release the legacy interview if Pinos’s story was published. This leads to an emotional conversation. For the first time, Federico apologizes for putting too much pressure on Andrés to run the newspaper. Now, Andrés breaks down, confessing how depressed he became after his divorce. Elsewhere, Yolanda tells Ricardo she wants to spend time with Luis to understand her feelings. Rather than getting angry, Ricardo is understanding, which frustrates Yolanda. So, Yolanda vents to Luis. Meanwhile, Ricardo’s livestream starts, showing him visibly distressed, feeling like he’s losing his wife. At the hospital, Rocio tells Guadalupe the party will not support her if Manuel is involved in a scandal—they cannot risk bad press.
What tactics does Guadalupe use to maintain her public image?
Manuel finally wakes up and explains what happened. Now, Guadalupe is furious because he acted impulsively when she could have used the situation to her advantage. When Lara visits Leon in prison, Leon reveals that when Bruno died, a journalist from the newspaper (Andrés) told their parents the truth and promised to publish the story. When the article didn’t appear, Leon’s father visited the office but was treated poorly. Enraged, Leon set fire to the building, not knowing people were inside or who the journalist was. So, Lara offers to help Leon. At a bar, Yolanda finds a drunk Ricardo and takes him home. Later, Juanjo gives Guadalupe an idea: claim Manuel has a gambling problem. Guadalupe addresses the press with this story, though it deeply hurts Manuel. Finally, Federico tells Andrés to blame everything on him. To take down Vargas, Federico convinces Vargas’s wife to testify. The plan works—Vargas is arrested.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 7, “Fight” Recap:
The episode opens with Guadalupe and Yolanda panicking because of the news. At the office, Andrés gives the Progress fund team two options: to speak about the fake subscribers or to support Andrés, saying Federico is trying to gain power by sabotaging Andrés. If companies learn that their management committed fraud, they will lose business. While this is happening, Lara finds all the information about Bruno’s case, including the names of the soldiers with Bruno. Meanwhile, Yolanda feels guilty and buys a house so Luis can get some work. It looks like Luis intends to take advantage of the situation. Elsewhere, Leon’s father tells Lara that Leon is obsessed with Bruno’s death so much that he is hurting himself. Furthermore, Leon’s father adds that Leon can get aggressive.
When Federico visits Vargas in prison to strike a deal, Vargas refuses and says that things have gotten personal. A guard offers Federico the chance to ask some inmates to get rid of Vargas. Hearing this, Federico gets furious. Meanwhile, Ricardo is getting romantic with Yolanda and suddenly wants children, making Yolanda uncomfortable. During the hearing, the management supports Andrés. Now, Federico speaks and destroys Progresso’s reputation. Elsewhere, Guadalupe asks Manuel to go to a hospital temporarily, as it is his fault that he is in this position. They get into an argument, which hurts Manuel’s pride. After that, Federico offers to buy out Progresso and continue to work for the paper if they accept defeat publicly.
Who betrays the Seligman family?
From prison, Leon calls Lara, asking about the soldiers’ details. However, when Lara mentions Leon’s father, Leon gets angry. So Lara hangs up on him. In prison, Leon manages to sneak into the laundry truck and escape. In another prison, correctional officers kill Vargas, making it look like a suicide. Now, Leon meets Lara in college and apologizes. So, Lara gives Leon the soldiers’ details. Meanwhile, Yolanda thinks it’s her fault Vargas is dead, as she got high on drugs at a party and told a stranger about the family problems. Furthermore, Yolanda vaguely remembers them mentioning some killing. At the office, the Progresso team brings back Aguirre, who demands that the newspaper pay a certain amount, which is ridiculously high. The person who gave this advice to Progresso is Manuel. Now, Andrés calls Guadalupe, demanding answers.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Episode 8, “Decide” Recap:
The episode opens with Manuel being smug about having Federico do things his way by signing a deal and handing over all the company shares to Progresso. Meanwhile, the cops are looking for Leon as he has hit someone. Seeing Leon in this state, Lara leaves Leon in the metro and tells the police where Leon is. Meanwhile, Yolanda is paranoid as she still thinks she got Vargas killed. To get funds, Federico asks for help from Julia, the head of a bank. Now, Julia asks Federico to tell the President to smooth out mortgage laws. When Federico speaks to the President, he urges Federico to help cut ties with a partner government, which Rocio heads, and then they will help Federico. Currently, the President has a chance of winning again, but their partner government seems to be leftist.
Now, Leon finds one of the soldiers, Rafal. To make Rafal talk, Leon poses as a documentary filmmaker. When Rafal is unwilling to help, Leon forces himself, and they fight. While driving with Luis, Yolanta, in a panic, says she thinks she killed someone. The cops stopped Yolanda as she had expired tags. Using this information, Luis tries to extort money from Yolanda. Meanwhile, Federico looks to Guadalupe for help, but Guadalupe leaves it to Federico to make a decision. The cops find an injured and unconscious Leon in Rafal’s house. In the hospital, Leon’s father is mad at himself for trusting Federico. Now, the man reveals to Lara that Federico paid him to tell her bad things about Leon.
How does Yolanda get rid of Luis?
Elsewhere, Guadalupe asks Manuel to help Federico, but he is pissed and says it won’t happen. When Yolanda goes to work, the tattooed man from the party is waiting for her. It turns out he is not a hitman. However, Yolanda uses this man to scare Luis and ensure he is kept away from Yolanda. In the office, Juanjo asks Guadalupe to use Rocio as a scapegoat. Now, Andrés, after sex with Blanco, is hanging out with her when news comes out about Rocio’s scandal. In a parking lot, Rafael attacks Federico as he is scared. So Federico gives Rafal his lawyer’s number and asks him to leave the country for a while. A clip from the interview shows Federico reading Andre’s article about Bruno.
Rotten Legacy (Legado, Netflix TV Mini-Series, 2025) Ending Explained:
The reason Bruno was killed is that he had uncovered that Spanish soldiers in Afghanistan were smuggling opium to Spain. This is because Afghanistan was the top producer of opium. The majority of the soldiers Bruno was with were involved in this. When Bruno wanted to report this, a soldier killed Bruno. This truth was censored by Federico to get benefits from the government. Because of Leon’s condition, his father has started to drink again. When Lara brings Leon’s father home, she discovers the interview clip about Bruno’s death left by Vargas. Meanwhile, Yolanda asks Ricardo to pack up and leave.
At the office, Andrés tells Federico that after Guadalupe accessed Rocio’s emails, she discovered that Rocio had asked to be placed in a daycare, which she was not eligible to receive. Both Andrés and Guadalupe are angry with Federico when he hesitates to use this to protect his kids. Now they give Federico a reality check that he always preaches about righteousness, only because he does not have the guts to go through with what he starts. Now, Federico follows through, the President smooths the mortgage laws, and the family signs the deal with Progress. In the last scene, Lara sees Leon’s condition and prepares to send the legacy interview to someone.
The series ends with an open ending. We don’t know what Lara does- whether she sends the clip to someone or decides against publishing it. The dilemma for Lara is to either bring justice to Bruno’s family or save her family’s reputation. While Leon struggled with anger and faced criticism from his father, the writers introduced an unnecessary plot twist, with Federico bribing his father to separate Leon from Lara. The story and its sub-plots are all over the place. Starting with Yolanda, she manages to get rid of Luis and Ricardo, who are now ready to listen to her heart. Guadalupe becomes a minister per her wish, and Andre is still the editor. Guadalupe may also divorce Manuel for what he has done. Manuel becomes vile even though every wrong thing that happened to him was his fault. The ending seems like Federico won, but that is not necessarily true, as the family is only safe for now. Federico has preached about going after the truth and rejecting corruption, but in the end, Federico has committed a lot of crimes. We also don’t know why Gabriel is still in politics, even though he has been a mastermind for many things. The series could have been shorter in terms of the number of episodes and written better.
