The episode opens with a woman calling the cops, asking for help. When the cops ask for details, the woman on the other end says it’s too late. At present, Cecilie sees Nanny Ruby throw something in the trash. When Cecilie waves at Ruby, Ruby does not notice. Oscar asks if he can stay at Cecilie’s house, but Viggo (Cecilie’s son) has to ask Nanny Angel first. After spending time with her daughter, Vera, Cecilie, and the others have dinner together. Just as they wrap up dinner, Cecilie’s neighbor and friend Katarina arrives. While chatting and drinking wine, Katarina says she left Oscar with Ruby while Katarina was away with Rasmus (Katarina’s husband) for five days.
After the chat, Ruby stops Cecilie, who is about to go for a run. Desperate to get help, Ruby says she can’t stay with Rasmus and Katarina anymore. Because Katarina is Cecilie’s neighbor, she says she can’t help Ruby. Furthermore, Cecilie asks Ruby to talk to the couple to make her comfortable. The next morning, Cecilie and Mike (Cecilie’s husband) enjoy quality time with Vera. Suddenly, Katarina arrives home and says Ruby is missing. To help Katarina, Cecilie invites their family over for dinner. It seems like Rasmus is Mike’s client. While on a run, Cecilie tries to look in the trashcan, but a dog scares Cecilie away. At Cecilie’s house, in front of Angel, Katarina starts saying nannies come to different countries to hide or join brothels.

At the same time, Oscar flies a drone in the dining area and zooms in on Cecilie’s butt. During dinner, Cecilie is curious if Katarina and Rasmus checked Ruby’s belongings to get a clue to her disappearance. Furthermore, Cecilie insists they call the cops soon. In Ruby’s room, she has left her passport and clothes.
At home, Angel is upset as Katarina and Rasmus have not called the police yet. Late at night, Cecilie finds a pregnancy test in the trash. At that moment, Rasmus arrives and asks if Cecilie has found something. Even though Cecilie finds the pregnancy test, she lies to Rasmus and takes the pregnancy test away. At home, Cecilie and Mike get into an argument as Mike does not think Rasmus has anything to do with Ruby’s disappearance, but Cecilie finds all this suspicious. The fight is short-lived as Cecilie and Mike start to have sex. A drone zooms in on this sexual act.

The episode opens with Inspector Aicha being put in charge of finding Ruby after Rasmus, a powerful billionaire CEO, finally contacts the police. While questioning Katarina, Aicha is led to Ruby’s room, where she finds a photo of Ruby and her fiancé, Yuan. Checking the call logs, Aicha discovers that Ruby had dialed 911 the night she vanished to report something, but Ruby abruptly hung up, saying it was too late. Meanwhile, Angel discusses Ruby’s disappearance with her Dutch class friends. At school, Oscar films a woman without her consent as Viggo silently watches beside him.
That evening, Cecilie reassures Angel that she can confide in her if she’s ever unhappy. Furthermore, Cecilie also helps Angel with her start-up idea. During their conversation, Cecilie breaks down, admitting she had postnatal depression after Viggo’s birth and still struggles to connect with him. Later, Aicha uncovers a prior police disturbance report linked to Cecilie’s number.
Simultaneously, Viggo’s group chat circulates inappropriate videos of women filmed without consent. The next day, Aicha visits Cecilie for questioning and learns Angel made the 911 call because Ruby had been frightened by a fight between Rasmus and Katarina. Now, Cecilie reveals that Ruby had sought her help. The conversation with Angel leads Aicha to a new name, Kim Flores. Later, Cecilie confronts Katarina and is relieved that Rasmus wasn’t hurting her, but Katarina remains furious with Aicha.
What happens at Mike’s work dinner?
Once again, Aicha visits the couple, and while Rasmus is cooperative, Katarina’s hostility continues. At the house, Aicha also sees Oscar. Later, Angel, needing money, approaches Cecilie, who cannot help her without a valid reason. Unexpectedly, Oscar tells Cecilie that Katarina believes Ruby is a sex worker, which shocks her. That evening, Cecilie and Mike head out for a work dinner.
At home, Viggo gives Angel his birthday savings and pleads with her never to leave. Meanwhile, Aicha tracks down Kim Flores’s house, where a neighbor claims Ruby is inside. So Aicha enters the party, thinking she sees Ruby, but Aicha realizes she’s mistaken. The crowd begins to intimidate Aicha, prompting her to call for backup. The episode opens with Cecilie having a dream about Ruby. Through the baby monitor, Cecilie can hear Mike and Rasmus discussing Cecilie crossing a line with the pregnancy test. In the police station, Aicha beats herself up as she got a woman deported, even though the woman was not related to this case.
However, Aicha’s boss, Carl, reminds Aicha that the woman was living there illegally. Meanwhile, Cecilie says she has to go on a run, but visits the police station. There, Cecilie expresses her concerns that Rasmus may have something to do with Ruby’s pregnancy. Furthermore, Cecilie learns that Ruby was looking for another home after the summer break. Elsewhere, Angel meets Darna at a restaurant to send money to the Philippines. There, Angel learns that Ruby wanted help to leave Rasmus’s home.
Now, Aicha reaches the church to ask the father if he knows anything about Ruby’s pregnancy. The priest refuses to answer as Ruby’s confession is confidential. After wrestling practice, Viggo’s friends pester him to send videos of women; if he does not, he will be kicked out of the group. Meanwhile, in the backyard, Cecilie and Mike realize emergency money from the jar is missing.
They talk to Viggo, who confesses to having given the money to Angel. The reason Viggo does this is that Oscar thought Ruby left because she was not getting paid well. Fearing Angel will leave, Viggo gives Angel money. After this, Cecilie confronts Angel, who reveals she has a son and needs money for him. Because Angel had lied about not having a kid, Cecilie is mad at her. Now, Cecilie asks Angel not to tuck in Viggo every night to draw some boundaries between them.

Meanwhile, Angel struggles as she misses her son a lot. At home, Cecilie sits through Rasmus and Katarina’s talks. In their conversation, they mention that Mike says Ruby is cute. Elsewhere, Viggo takes a video of Angel’s butt being pressurized by his friends. Since the priest knows something, Aicha wants to bring him in for questioning, but Carl stops her as they need to have something solid to do that.
At that time, Aicha gets a call that they found Ruby’s purse in the woods. In the evening, Angel contacts Yuan, who tells Angel that Ruby had broken up with him a week ago, probably because she had met someone else. At night, Cecilie confronts Mike about Rasmus’s comment about Mike, but he feigns ignorance. When Mike leaves the room, Cecilie checks his phone and sees that Ruby and Mike were close.

The episode opens with Mike working out while Cecilie watches from her bedroom. Once Mike gets home, Cecilie confronts him about his closeness with Ruby. Hearing Cecilie’s suspicions that Mike may have impregnated Ruby, Mike gets furious. At the wrestling practice, Rusmus tells Mike that Ruby’s purse has been found. At the same time, Oscar shows a video to Viggo, promising he won’t put it in their group. Seeing the footage, Viggo is apathetic. Meanwhile, Aicha finds some drawings on a hotel’s visiting card from Ruby’s purse. When Aicha enquires about Ruby, a staff member recognizes Ruby. The staff member also says Ruby used to come with another man who had a Porsche Taycan Turbo.
While Cecilie is resting at home, a drone flies above her, making her uncomfortable. The Dutch class girls have their own search party to look for Ruby. After that, Angel asks Cecilie for a day off to organize the search for Ruby. Other than granting leave, Cecilie promises to join the group. Near the school, Cecilie bumps into Katarina and informs her about the search group.
Surprisingly, Katarina volunteers to help. By then, Aicha gets to know that Porsche belongs to Mike, and he was once convicted of rape. During the search, Cecilie confides in Katarina about Ruby and Mike’s text messages. Meanwhile, Aicha convinces the priest to reveal what Ruby has confessed. The only thing Ruby said was she was raped but did not say who raped her.
Is Ruby alive?
Later, Aicha meets Cecilie to ask more questions. Immediately, Cecilie says when Mike raped a woman before he had taken something. After that, Mike turned his life around. When Aicha mentions Mike and Ruby’s frequent visits to the hotel, Cecilie is surprised. For some reason, Cecilie hides the fact that she takes sleeping pills. At night, Cecilie and Mike argue because he hadn’t revealed his closeness with Ruby. In the heat of the moment, Cecilie insinuates Mike may as well have raped Ruby because he has done it before. This upsets Mike deeply, so he books a hotel room. The next morning, the cops find Ruby’s body in the sea.

The episode opens with Oscar being ignored by Viggo, who won’t respond to Oscar’s messages. At the station, Cecilie confirms it is Ruby. Outside, Cecilie breaks down, overwhelmed by the situation.
Later, Cecilie tells Aicha she doesn’t know where Mike was when Ruby disappeared. It’s confirmed that Ruby was pregnant, and the current cause of death is drowning. Back home, Cecilie breaks the news to Angel but forgets to pick up Viggo from school. So, Viggo calls Mike instead. When Mike arrives, Cecilie tells him about Ruby’s death and pregnancy. Why are Katarina and Cecilie called to school?
When Kalle insists on the seriousness of the matter, Katarina punches him. At the police station, with no visible trauma on Ruby’s body, Carl tells Aicha to close the case as a suicide. However, Aicha later provokes Rasmus to take a DNA test. Outside school, Cecilie and Katarina argue, and Cecilie says she no longer wants Viggo and Oscar to spend time together.
In the woods, Oscar threatens Viggo to stay silent about another video. When Cecilie arrives, she sees Katarina dragging Oscar away. The episode opens with Katarina checking a video clip from Ruby’s room camera. The next morning, Cecilie informs Aicha about the school group and the video Viggo is talking about. To check the devices, Cecilie needs to report to Oscar. To bring justice to Ruby, Cecilie reports to Oscar. The police arrive at Katarina’s house with a search warrant.
Katarina visits Cecilie to shame her for being a terrible mother. The cops don’t find anything in any of Oscar’s devices. Viggo reveals that the video was of Oscar raping Ruby. Shaken, Cecilie tells the truth to Angel. Later, Oscar visits Cecilie, who is afraid. Now, Oscar confesses that Ruby was hired to make Oscar happy, so she should listen to Oscar’s wishes.
Thankfully, Mike gets home in time to take Oscar home. By then, Aicha gets the DNA result, and it is a 24% match with Ramsus, which means it is Oscar who raped Ruby. At Ramsus’s house, Mike agrees to help Ramsus with this problem. A while later, Cecilie apologizes to Mike for not trusting him. There is a funeral service for Ruby, and Ramsus forces Katarina to go.
Furthermore, Ramsus blames Katarina for not raising Oscar well. At the funeral service, Katarina and Ramsus are kicked out. At home, Ramsus and Mike discuss legal actions. So, Cecilie interferes and explains to Ramsus that Oscar raped Ruby. However, Ramsus twists the tale, saying Viggo could lie as there is no evidence. The lack of evidence could also mean Ruby took unfair advantage of a minor.

At the police station, Aicha finds it hard to digest that Oscar may never face punishment. At night, Mike explains to Cecilie what would happen if Viggo is taken to court. In front of everyone, Viggo may be called a liar. The chances for Oscar to pay a price are low. So Cecilie and Mike decide not to let Viggo testify in court. The next day, Cecilie fires Angel, asking her to be with her son. However, Angel is upset as she is punished for what Oscar did. The positive side is that Mike, Cecilie, Viggo, and Vera become close to each other.
A few days later, Ramsus invites Mike and Cecilie home as Oscar leaves for boarding school. When Cecilie walks to the house, Oscar stops Cecilie and says he knows Cecilie hates him. When Cecilie points out it’s Oscar’s parents’ fault, Oscar says that the night before Ruby disappeared, she and Katarina were arguing. While having wine, Katarina admits to having directly or indirectly killed Ruby. The show ends with Cecilie’s silence.
The ending reveals Cecilie’s unintentional role in Ruby’s death. If Cecilie had let Ruby speak, then Cecilie would have known what the issue was. Instead, Cecilie asked Ruby to talk to Katarina and Ramsus. This was the mistake, as Katarina surely said something, pushing Ruby to kill herself. Another reason is that Ruby knew no one could help her now. It is obvious Katarina erased all the evidence to save Oscar.
Secrets We Keep raises compelling questions about power, guilt, and the manipulation of truth, particularly through its portrayal of Katarina’s toxic, almost suffocating form of maternal love. Though framed as a crime thriller, the series often leans on convenience in its writing. For example, the choice to target Mike felt like an artificial attempt to maintain suspense—especially when the first episode all but confirms that Oscar raped Ruby. It’s heavy-handed and obvious, making the narrative that follows feel forced rather than revelatory.
The subplot involving Mike’s past, suggesting he’s a former rapist based primarily on his rough sexual behavior, is thinly developed and lacks credible depth. There’s no substantial character background to support such a serious accusation, and it ends up feeling more like a plot device than a meaningful exploration of guilt or justice.
Viggo and Angel’s relationship with the au pair and the child comes across as unsettling at times. While it may have been intended to highlight Viggo’s emotional immaturity or difficulty with intimacy, scenes like Angel tucking him in, especially given that the child isn’t particularly young, veer into awkward territory and distract from the narrative’s core tension.
Additionally, key plot threads are left hanging. The attack on Mike’s house, for instance, is never explained. And the repeated dream sequences in which each character sees Ruby in dripping clothes feel like a strained metaphor that adds little to the story. They’re visually symbolic but narratively redundant.
From the outset, Katarina casually reveals that Ruby and Oscar were left alone for five days—a detail that should have made it immediately clear to Cecilie what had happened. Instead, the show stretches this revelation out unnecessarily. It’s acceptable to know the perpetrator early in a mystery, but what follows needs to deliver emotional and thematic weight. Here, it doesn’t. The momentum stalls, and the story often seems more interested in making social commentary than in telling a tightly constructed tale.
Viggo’s performance, too, is underwhelming—he remains emotionally flat throughout, which undercuts what might have been a poignant character study. Despite these shortcomings, Secrets We Keep does prompt the viewer to consider the insidious power of wealth and influence. Ramsus, with his money and legal connections, is able to spin the narrative in his favor.
Katarina walks away from her crimes, shielded not by innocence but by the absence of hard evidence. In this world, truth becomes irrelevant. What matters is who has the resources to craft a more persuasive story. The series leaves us with a chilling reminder: in society, power often trumps justice, and narrative can overwhelm fact. In the end, Secrets We Keep is more successful at raising provocative questions than it is at answering them. It has the ingredients of a gripping, thoughtful drama.
