The Killing Vote, Season 1, Episode 2, delves deeper into the mysterious web of the Killing Vote organization as its twisted game of life and death unfolds. This episode centers on the investigation into Gaetal. As the special investigation unit races against time to prevent another tragedy, unexpected alliances, and shocking revelations come to light. Amidst this complex narrative, a pivotal moment leaves audiences on a tense cliffhanger, questioning the fate of one of the main characters.

The Killing Vote (Season 1), Episode 2 Recap:

The episode begins with Seok-joo in court for his trial. The judge asks him if he has anything to say for himself, Seok-Joo tells the people in court how the Korean Judicial system has failed, and he uses the phrase “Devils who are deemed innocent” to refer to the criminals. He also states that the man he killed deserved to die after what he had done to his daughter. The court had not done its part in giving the right punishment for the criminal. He was demeaning all the officials present in court.

In the present, we see Joo Hyun telling Mu-chan about the same phrase that was used by the masked man in his first video. Mu-chan is not entirely convinced as Seok-joo was in prison and did not have any visitors or contact outside the prison. However, he asked Joo Hyun to return to her unit and he would investigate it further. Joo Hyun asks him to bring her to the special investigations team, but he refuses.

Jin-soo tells Mu-chan that they had completed the analysis of Gi-chul’s phone and found a threatening message. It was also discovered that the day Gi-Chul was murdered, all his wealth, even from the cryptocurrency, was donated to an NGO that works with kids who were sexually assaulted. Mu-chan finds these connections to Seok-joo less co-incidental. In prison, we see that Seok-joo is encouraging the other inmates positively. The inmates respect him and follow his orders. But when one of the inmates asks about Gi-chul’s death, he refuses to talk about it.

In the cyber unit, Joo Hyun gets the good news that she will be a part of the special investigation unit and is thrilled. She rushes to the office in pure joy. Jin-soo is unhappy about this decision, but Jo-dan is happy to work with his friend. Joo Hyun teases him, and they have a fun reunion. Mu-chan decides to meet with Seok-joo, but he refuses to meet anybody. The officers inform him that Seok-joo is well versed in the law, and he cannot force him to come out and meet him. But the other prison guard Chul-min gives Mu-chan his business card and offers his services to him.

Mu-chan heads to the bar Gi-Chul was last seen at as the waiter is willing to talk to the police. Jin-soo tries to get information from the waiter, but he is sketchy. Mu-chan intimidates the waiter and tells him that the cab is already waiting for Gi-Chul and hands him the business card of the cab service. Mu-chan hits the waiter as he has installed CCTV cameras in the women’s washroom.

Joo Hyun and Jo-dan find the IP address that spreads malware. Mu-chan and Jin-soo talks to the cab driver, and he informs them that he has received the location of the taxi, the taxi number, and the person’s phone number. He drove Gi-Chul back to where he had started, and he was asked to take the money from the glove compartment. He also shows the officers the text messages. When the cops reach the junkyard to find the car, it is already crushed.

Joo Hyun and Jo-dan reach the location of the IP address, but it turns out to be Gi-chul’s hideout. Mu-chan and Jin-soo also reach the location. They realize that the IP address was accessed a month before his release. Joo Hyun takes all the data from the LAN to investigate it further.

Mu-chan sets up an interview with the inmates of Cheongnang Prison for Joo Hyun. Joo Hyun uses the phrase “Devils who are deemed innocent” to get information from the inmates. Everyone has lovely things to say about Seok-joo. Seok-Joo is seen hanging out with another police officer, helping him with his divorce. The prison guard Chul-min informs them about the interviews and mentions the phrase used. Although Seok-Joo is taken from the roster to be interviewed, he volunteers to meet her after he hears the phrase. Joo Hyun directly asks him about the connection to the killing vote, and he says he doesn’t know anyone around him who could take such measures. He asks Joo Hyun to focus on finding the victim instead of trying to find the killer.

Mu-chan is on a call with Joo Hyun the whole time, and he tells her that he knew he would come and talk if he heard the phrase. Mu-chan was sure that it had to be someone close to Seok-joo. Joo Hyun goes through the entire database to predict the next victim. We are introduced to Uhm Eun-gyeong, who wants to hurt her family to get money. As she tries to hurt her kids, she is abducted.

The time for the next killing vote is arriving soon. In Joo Min’s school, a serious discussion about whether it is morally right to conduct a killing vote is taking place. Their teacher sits on the fence about the situation, but one of Joo Min’s classmates takes an anarchic stance. We also see a boy messaging someone with the name ‘Executor’ and talking about transferring money. He is the son of the politician on the talk show.

The special investigation team and the locals are ready to move while Joo Hyun and Jo-dan try to find the next victim. Gaetal releases the next video, and he mentions Uhm Eun-gyeong’s name and gives her a nickname, ‘The Insurance Murderer’. He explains that she had married twice, all three of her husbands died, and she received money from the government. Now, her fourth husband was the target, but this time, she was hurting her husband’s children.

The Killing Vote (Season 1), Episode 2 Ending, Explained:

Can Mu-chan outsmart Gaetal?

Joo Hyun finds the location of Uhm Eun-gyeong’s phone, and all units move. They find her in a car with a time bomb on it. Mu-chan asks them for a barren land so that there will be less damage if the car blows up. Joo Hyun suggests Joo Min’s schoolyard as they had recently expanded it. Mu-chan opens the doors and informs her that the bomb is not connected to the doors and she should drive. He asks her if the culprit is instructing her, and she nods.

They drive to the yard, and we see Uhm Eun-gyeong admit to her crimes. They park in the yard, and Mu-chan asks everyone to stay behind, and he decides to stay inside the car. Joo Hyun is rushing towards the car, and so is Jin-soo. Mu-chan tells Gaetal that she will be tried in court again if he claims the truth, and he promises to make that happen. He also warns him that he will not get out of the car and that he needs to think about what people would say about murdering an innocent person. But the car blows up.

The ending is left on a cliffhanger. We are still determining if Mu-chan is dead. There can be two possibilities, the first is that he is dead, and the second is that he has set a trap and is only injured, but it would make it easy to catch Gaetal. The second scenario is likely to happen. From episodes 1 to 2, we see an interesting change in Joo Hyun; outside of her being quirky, we see her being fantastic at her job.

There seem to be many people involved in the killing vote, and Seok-joo is one of them. There are still a lot of blurs when it comes to the Killing Vote Organization. We are yet to explore why police officers and prison guards are letting Seok-joo hang out with them.
